I suggest that if you indeed sell this database, take the money and register in an ethics course.

What you're selling is probably a stolen database. Are you aware that you can go to jail for even possessing this?

Go ahead and sell it - but not here. And who knows who your buyer might be. Perhaps a spammer, perhaps a detective hired by the casino. I know of a couple of casinos who have jailed these thieves.

You are treading dangerous waters here.

Maybe not killed someone, but you're peddling stolen goods in my forum.

Bye.

Kicking this thief and scoundrel to the kerb does little to reassure players who are wondering how on earth such a database could escape from the secure environment that casinos boast about when telling us we need to send them all those sensitive document scans, as well as registering all our private info with them.

What we really need to know is which casino or poker room this database originated from. If from a rogue, it only confirms what most suspect anyway, but if it turns out to be from a reputable casino, this is a SERIOUS security breach, and should worry all players, even the careful ones.

This kind of thing also makes life hard for the reputable casinos, who are finding this kind of thing undermines the trust that players place in them to look after their personal data.

If caught, this thief certainly DOES face jail, and I do hope he ends up selling this to undercover detectives employed by the industry to combat this kind of thing.

CM - I think you ought to buy it...

LMAO

I don't dissuade from conversation with this gentleman.

First - he might have some info about what casino it was - and well - maybe he can share whether it was indeed stolen - or if someone at a casino actually gave it to him.

But methinks this is just a jokester that doesn't have the goods he claims.

I wish I had gobs of money. I'd buy the list just to out the casino that leaked it. Or even better, work with the seller's local authorities to bust their a$$.

There was a similar leak a year or two ago....does anyone remember? I only remember that the casino name had something to do with "9."

edit: Oh yea, it also had something to do with some of their decommissioned computers.

THIS is down to the casino being careless with the disposal of old computers. Criminals will sweep hard drives that are found in second hand computers to see if they can get hold of anything useful. IF said computers contained player information, the casino failed in their duty of care to ensure that the data was destroyed beyond any chance of recovery before the computer was released into the second hand/spares trade. Many of these old computers end up in places such as Lagos (Nigeria), where criminal gangs routinely scour hard drives for any data that is saleable before recycling the components. The computers are sent to places such as Nigeria because cheap labour makes recycling cheaper, and disposal costs the companies less. These places also benefit by having access to kit that is obsolete by our standards, but still "cutting edge" in terms of what many can afford there.

When disposing of old PCs, the hard drive should be removed and destroyed, or at the very least wiped to military standards, which is at least 7 passes of writing random data to the entire drive after deleting the original content.
