Per historical records though he was called Rin Tin. I believe if I recall correctly this is based on a real dog from WW1. I could be wrong though.

I thought the same at first.
So i opened pager #6 of this thread in a new window, and put the pictures next to each other.
Both pictures features a dog, and since a dog can not be in two places at once i have concluded its not the same dog.
Case dismissed.
