If they tried that by my table the only thing they'd take away is a couple of black eyes
I'm a pacifist, believe violence is the last resort and all the patience of a saint :)

That being said I'm still 6'1, 220 and would bloody the nose of a mofo was an utter dick like that

Protest? You betcha.
Incite discord? Not so much :)

I saw an earlier analogy
to the effect of all police shouldnt be judged by a few
can you accept a bad few when all should be held to high standtarrd?

so...

Right, so we have good pilots. Maybe there's a bad few. Steve sometimes likes to fly into mountains, enjoy your flight :)

ya wanna trust that airline?

Just thought i would point out there have been plane crashes resulting in deaths caused by pilot error.

Also the fact that there is way more police officers than pilots.

And you could also take into account that police officers probably encounter violence, murder and many things on a regular basis that could lead to them making irrational decisions.

And no i do not condone the things some police are guilty off. Just pretty obvious that same as in most walks off life you will get some that are evil and not fit for job.

Whether it is the soldier who kills innocent civilians. The doctors who have been found to have killed many patients for no reason. List could go on forever.

Granted, theres pilot errors and police errors :)

And most things, come out in the wash.

Id wager, few, to none, pilot decisions are based on race, creed, sexuality etc

I fully appreciate, there's police errors; split second choices......bad calls, good calls, human error

But yes.....bias errors when it comes to police probably dont factor into pilot errors ....i doubt theres many evil pilots have mindsets of 'ef that guy'

My perspective is.....police shouldnt be held to 'some are good, some are bad'

Dont take the bad

A course, a degree, studies, (minimum) evaluation, and pass/fail, a good understanding of current law, and a belief to uphold it

Do we choose a force that fights because they like to fight or fights because they like to fight for principles

I understand that who is chosen in the USA for president affects the world as a whole but i really wish some USA members would chime in with their thoughts. I for one , living this nightmare in real time wish the USA was not the laughing stock of some countries. I hope things get better for us and i am just hoping who ever is elected get us together. It is scary living here and being out of the loop but trying to keep up. I have been watching any news events i can. At the end of the day no matter whose opinion is what it doesn't change the fact we are leading in coronavirus deaths and civil unrest. I miss the days my only worry was fending off my cat and service animal to gain a spot on my bed. This is sad no matter how it is looked at. We in the USA are suffering miserably . Rents due, food on table, afraid of what will happen next. I can only speak for myself but i have been thankful everytime i can meet bill payments. I am happy everytime there is food on the table. I sincerly hope it doesn't get worse and my heart goes out to people who are suffering bad. I do not post much at CM but i have been a member a long time and see some posts i find a bit harsh. I don't say anything though because i also do not like conflict where i put my small amount of peace in jeopardy. I have read a lot of this thread and i can not fathom how some opinions seem like people on the outside looking in and not really seeing the big picture or the struggle we face as USA citizens. All the comments or the right or wrong views mean nothing unless you walk a day in the shoes of someone else. Scary, unsure future is my first thoughts. I have never been big on politics and i won't start now. I like some of Trumps ideas as well as Bidens. We will see what happens at the polls and i hope it is for the better (signed US citizen) .

Page breaks, hun; makes it readable :)
(I read it all)

We chat. Ive lived here, and the states, and I love my American friends <3
I've been graced to see both sides

I judge harshly on the current president
My heart also goes to my US friends :)

I appreciate how immensely difficult it is there and hope the nation stops being divisive and whole :)

Does not help that law enforcment attracts a certain kind of people.
Ot that humans dont really handle power over others all that well.
Been countless experiments, but the stanford experiments is probably the most well known.

Throw some peer pressure into the mix and "normal" "good" people turn into assholes pretty quick.
Add to that that the training they receive in alot of states wouldnt qualify them to be mall cops in most countries.

True some police forces just let anything in.

You'd have to have certain scruples to do that kind of work, I'm sure criteria would have entailed possessing one or two 'robust' qualities to become a cop.

Pretty sure they wouldn't have hired a load of dandies now or at any time, perhaps one needs an 'adaptable' mean streak to cope with the everyday obstacles!

By the same token, I'm fairly convinced the quality of average police officer has declined sharply in recent years just about everywhere, I think they'll take just about anyone these days, such is their recruitment desperation

Difference being, while the ones over here are fat with thick glasses and useless, the cops in America get given shiny Glock-19s

It seems that the USA members who have chimed in have been mostly pro-Trump. I've posted in here quite a few times that there is no more middle ground in politics and that's painfully obvious in the USA, where the system has always been geared towards that tho with the 2 party system.

I am someone who's from the outside looking in and I'm sorry if you feel that way. Sometimes outside views are what's needed to untangle a mess. I don't know who you want to win come November but I wish you the best outcome possible.

Well, this has become a U.S Politics thread by default for some reason, even though all talk of North Korea kind of evaporated about 7 pages in, when it became an agenda -laden 'Let's bash Trump'-fest

Thing is, there is another active Trump thread on CM, it's over there somewhere >>

Also, if people wanted to air their Trump disdain, incidentally we 'get it' already, they could just as easily open a new 'The state of U.S Politics' thread any time of their choosing! But of course they won't do that

If someone opened a thread about Casumo and then spent 10 pages dissing Videoslots, I wonder what would happen to that thread. Hmmmm!

Also, at no point is the U.S a terrible place to live, comparable to before maybe, though people are finding it tough kind of everywhere presently. But if you want real persecution and hardships I could reel off a dozen countries where people have it tough even in blissful times, and the U/S 'ain't it', sorry

You trying to get the greatest thread on the forum locked?
Tho i agree that thread needs less trump bashing and more cooking&nature videos.

Not the Trump thread that was shut, there was another

Like I've mentioned before, sad and scary part is...you dont even have to look or google to 'bash Trump'; the man puts it right out there on Twitter and social media; he INVITES discussion

I think you're being a bit harsh there on Rena. Sure, there's far worse countries but for a 1st world civilized country the USA is trying its best to be bottom of the barrel.

Really? I would have placed it at the top. I can't envisage anyone giving up their U.S freedoms and Western ideals for any other country, truth be told

Canada :)

20 yrs ago, maybe Canadians wanted 'American' lifestyle
Now? not for a million dollars :)

US freedoms? Like the ones where people chose not to visit their GP because it might cost them 100s of thousands of $ if it's something serious?

I think we can find much better Western countries.

FTR no not saying Canada is fantastic
Just that the metric has changed
WE wanted to be them. Now, we see they want to be us
Dunno why,it's cold and dreary lol

Like I posted in here (or the corona thread) the other day: we used to look up to America, the American Dream and all that. Now we feel bad for them. Maybe it's different if you actually live there, depending on your situation it most likely is too.

You really want to have the same systems for the UK that the US currently has? Healthcare/Policing/Social Security/Education etc?
I'd trade places and relocate to the U.S, grab me a ticket and watch me go!

And at no point did I say it was a perfect utopian society, but I'd find it hard to believe anyone relinquishing their U.S freedoms and trade it with anyone else

I'd say...half..my FB 'peeps' are American.
I loved living there.
I moved there for the American dream; riches and success
There's many, many great things about America :)

I wouldnt trade in my citizenship for immortality these days.
It's a whole new world.

Theyre our closest neighbours. Of COURSE we root for their success :)

Privatized healthcare is nothing new over there, it's not the be-all-and end-all in light of everything else their society affords them

true, you also get classism, racism and 1% v 99% :)

You get that everywhere else too, only worse!

Though comparable to the U.K, racism isn't that prevalent here. The rest, x10
not....really
we are here, really, while not socialist, fairly so

IE middle of road, and much less THEM v US (rich v poor)

Yes but Canada doesn't count. It's not even a real country

You should come live in Scotland then - got the same cold, rain, and drearyness of Canada (maybe minus the nice people)

And in Old Nick (sorry, Nicola) a fairly leftward leaning shower of bampots in power :p

What countries are you thinking when you're comparing them to the US like this?

Had a wonderful vacation there :)
Was maybe, the only place, the pubs as packed at 10am as 10pm :D
