Your Input Please Noooo - Tell me its not true!!

I play it (and the sequel) incredibly rarely; I find is so ....dull.
Ya, we've seen the screenshots to know it's not an impossible (though unlikely) dream win.
I just don't enoy it and that's more than half the point in me playing slots.
Exactly the reason I don't play it much either. Soul destroyingly dull. Sure, you can hit big but that doesn't make up for the dull gameplay.

It has a high RTP firstly, secondly the volatility creates a lot of 'hit-and-run' players after big wins.
Yet they went to the trouble of making another?????? (and Who’s the bride). I am not doubting what you say, just looking at it logically and it doesn’t really hold sway.

It also makes them very little money, believe it or not. They told me at ICE.
How could it not make them money?
if it's running at it TRTP%, which it no doubt is, and it's "a massive game for them" as 32Red_mark says, It'll be making them plenty.

Also 'hit and run players' would only affect individual casinos, not NetEnt themselves. It'll all balance out at their end and be hitting its TRTP

They didn't explain in much detail, and I didn't say they said it doesn't make them money, but not much money. Compared to Starburst etc. which are far more profitable for them. If I were to guess, it would be mainly due to the fact the house edge is lower on it and secondly as a result of big wins which would likely trigger a cash-out or switch of slots by the player. Whereas on egg-timer games like Starburst the wins are constantly recycled due to being smaller.
In other words, the RTP will nearly always be recycled or partially recycled on low-volatility slots maintaining Netent's rake and on DoA the large part of the RTP allocated to huge wins wouldn't be in the short term. Of course, in the long term the house edge will count and DoA has a higher RTP than many other Netents.

Once a game has been developed and released isn't it basically passive income? Does it have upkeep costs? Even if it doesn't make them much, if it makes them something what would be the benefit for them in removing it?
General question rather than specific to DOA

There's always going to be server maintenance costs, then you have to take into account how games will work in new browsers; browser developers can make changes which have unforeseen effects on your sites requiring re-work.

Here's what DOA2 looks like on the latest iOS beta.

This is obviously a current game, but a result of changes in the iOS browser engine means it displays entirely badly (though is still playable). It's a no-brainer that if Apple doesn't fix the browser bug, NetEnt will alter the code to work around it.

However, if it were a game that only a couple of hundred people played per day, and was just ticking over - would it be worth their while going back and amending the code?

(In this case - I suspect the WebKit bugs will be fixed rather than the game code.)

Thanks Dan, really interesting. I'm not all that tech savvy so had no idea about half of that stuff!

Does each game have its own server then or can one server handle a bunch of them?
