Hi there.I would like to know which casinos are still illegal for Canadians to gamble on.At one time Virgin Casino was one where a Canadian could gamble on parts of the website and banned on other aspects of the casino.

Could someone post in this thread, the government website that covers this type of information, or could Casinomeister himself or a worker from this website post this type of information? That would be really helpful.

Thanks.

As Canadians, we can play anywhere online. What prevents us from playing at any particular site, is the casino, not our government. See, we sit in this grey region - it's neither illegal or on the books as legal - legislation hasn't caught up to online gambling, but no worries, it definitely is not against the law.
Some casinos or the software providers themselves usually, are being cautious waiting for the law books to catch up, while some like Rival has to do with personal feelings.

Feel free to play. And enjoy your tax-free wins :D

Hush you ...the walls have ears ;)

?
It doesn't matter if anyone hears. Gambling and lottery wins in Canada are tax-free

Let's not forget that wins aren't taxed because all legal forms of lottery/gambling in Canada are run by the State (provinces). So basically gambling itself is a (voluntary) tax. Only the US can pull a "taxing a tax" when it comes to state lotteries. :)

I could see them taxing wins if they were to allow private entities to enter the Canadian gambling market (don't hold your breath though...)

The reason online gambling is a grey area is because the online casinos themselves aren't physically IN Canada and there's nothing in the Criminal Code to cover this. If you operate IN Canada and you allow Canadians to play then there's no grey area, it's against the law (just ask the fine folks at Rival).

My understanding with Rival is that it's about a petty fight regarding software and developers and Rival taking their ball and going home.
By the way, you can operate an online casino IN Canada, FOR Canadians - Quebec has them, and I'm allowed to play them online just like a Brick and Mortar. So operating online casinos within Canada is NOT against the law. Other provinces just haven't gottnen on board yet. They even have WMS games.
Also, in ON, not all casinos are run by the state. There are privately run casinos. For example, the Peterborough OLG, which WAS a provincial entity, was sold to a private company.

EspaceJeux is owned by Loto-Quebec (ie: State).

I don't know the details about this one, but I know that it's illegal (at least here) to operate any kind of gambling unless it's the government. This isn't an open market, they don't sell gambling licenses and such (like, say, in Vegas).

I never said the Quebec casino wasnt owned by the state. You said casinos cant operate online within Canada or are illegal. They can and they arent.

Other parts of Canada, private entities can run casinos. They may be overseen by the state and regulated, but so is any business. Like, while LCBO liquor stores are govt run, convenience stores that sell liquor arent, they just have guidelines to follow like any privately owned business

As well as the software wide bans mentioned above, there are other standalone casinos that don't accept Canadians - like Circus and Paddy Power which are both Playtech, and even some of the rogue-on-probation RTG casinos.

Just a minor heads-up: Circus Casino closed down in June this year. :(

Really? Funny Bryan still has them on the accredited list too....maybe you should let him know.

EDIT: Sorry, my mistake - they're on the Playtech list not the accredited list, and the link goes to Genting.
