Patches, gum, e-cigarettes, cutting down, tried them all. What finally worked? Cold turkey. Yep, the thing that used to bug me the most is what worked! That and the insane rising cost of cigarettes. Quitting is not easy and you have to be ready for the withdrawal fall out. Mine lasted six months before the cravings stopped. Ugh.

Congratulations - the longest ive managed is 6 days in 20 years!!

Im currently in Budapest, and you can still smoke in the bars here, so its near enough impossible for me at the moment, but will try to quit again as soon as I leave.

Well done!!!

I have been smoking on and off for 10 years now.

Give me smokes or give me death!

I think that is absolutely wonderful! It is torture and the craving really never stops, but it eases. I am 11 years free also but there are moments a good whif is all it takes even now to start the craving...(my hubby still smokes, yech!)

Cold turkey is a tough way and takes strong will...but you did it and that is what counts! Hang in there and stay the course! Congrats again!!!

I don`t smoke, but I use "SNUS". Crushed tobacco. (placed under the lip)

I am almost 8 months cold turkey and I still get hard cravings every day, its almost not worth quitting really because of this, seriously.

Suzecat... Your just about to get your taste back... That is one of the best things about quitting.

You can actually taste things again... after about a year.

I have been a non-smoker for 8 years now. After that first year or so, no more cravings... at all, ever... Don't give up.

(BTW - note, I call myself a "NON-Smoker" not an "Ex-Smoker".)

To all of you learning to quit... The one thing I found out about quitting, it is a learning process. I must have quit 100+ times in the 40years I smoked... but every time, I learned a little bit more about what it takes to really quit.

Nice going Suzecat !

I quit cold turkey 1,5 year ago after smoking about 2 packs a day for about 18 years (started when i was 13 ). I'm one of the very lucky ones to NEVER had any cravings or fallouts since.

Keep it up

Suzecat,

It never goes completely away, the occasional "need" for a smoke but it does get easier. And like Lotso said, your true taste buds kick in and you can not believe how good food is!

I quit a year ago last December, and I am so happy to not waste my money on cigs any more. A dinner out or money in a casino, or money to the kids or a new lamp, and on and on and on!! :p

Don't' ever give in or give up!!

Boy howdy! ;) I had to stop doing the things that usually made me grab a cigarette and light it .......... some were easier than others :D
