Is it normal to be asked to make a non-trivial deposit ($#£50+) in order to withdraw winnings?

One of the things the PAB team has seen a sharp rise in recently is players not happy that they are being asked by some casinos to deposit $£#50, $£#100, or more in order to “release your winnings”. These are often regular winnings, not winnings from free spins or NDBs. And some casinos are even asking for a repeat deposit.

To us in the Complaints area this seems totally bogus. True, occasionally a casino will ask for a small deposit — $£#20-ish, at most — in order to see the money trail and satisfy their Risk departments but we think these increased payment requests are just a scam to get more of player’s money. Before we issue a General Warning about this we wanted to see what the community had to say on the subject.

I recall having earned a chunky amount a while back and one of the T&Cs indicating that a prior deposit of eg £20 needed to have been made at the site to essentially validate the winnings, albeit not giving any timeframe as to when.

I'd imagine some may prefer the payment so that they have a 'link' in which to just pay you and be done with it, ie Paypal and suchlike. Yet again though, in this instance I'd either already made a previous deposit, or splurged £20 on some nondescript slots just to be on the safe side. And voila! they paid!

It's not as nefarious as it might appear on initial view, but by and large, most casinos of reputable standing wouldn't directly ask for this, and certainly not repeatedly. I'd imagine the ones that do are somewhat shady, employing what amounts to blackmail, and essentially paywalling your own funds!

What will these cream-faced loons think of next!

In my time in Canada (which is where the largest percentage of my online gambling in my lifetime was done) I have only ever been asked for additional deposits to enable alternative withdrawal methods, to create a loop. Mostly to enable interac after using only card deposits but occasionally Mifinity/jeton

Not once have I ever been asked to deposit to "unlock" a withdrawal or verify it.

The deposit used to fund the win already exist!

If i were asked to make a deposit to get paid, that would be the last deposit i'd make at that casino.

My logic is simple:

- Why play at a casino that asks for deposits, excessive docs, etc when you can play safely at one that doesn't?
- Why play at a slow-paying casino (e.g., with 12h payouts) when you can play where they pay in minutes?
- Why play at a casino with capped bonuses and withdrawal limits when you can play where there are none?
- Why play at a casino with lowered slot RTPs when you can play where the return is more favorable?

And so on.

ow i miss voted, didnt notice the value of the deposit required.

No thats a red flag.

Tiny deposit to conduct a closed loop with the withdrawal and on to the next customer. Anything above min deposit within the casino is not done imo

Surely that’s only applicable for no deposit bonuses though and Max mentioned that wasn’t the case? Why would anyone insist on another deposit if already closed loop?

Back in canada when I deposited with card I needed to open a new loop with interac at most sites, some just let me withdraw without ever using interac to deposit, though.

Has anyone ever played at wise casino if anyone has did they have any problems cashing out there winnings
Do you mean Weiss?

EDIT:
Given the influx or recent people posting about websites that are part of this scam, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it's the one in the picture

I remember at a Belgian casino a couple of years ago to verify my Paypal account they'd take a "deposit" of €1 and immediately put it back on the account after. Less of a PITA than having to take screenshots for sure.

This seems very scammy tho.

yes no deposit and unknown player with no activity before.

Thanks everyone, you have confirmed what I had guessed: any casino asking for sizeable deposits as described is either getting the player to fund their own withdrawal or is outright scamming the player. I will post a Casinomeister Warning to alert readers to this underhanded practice.

Happend to me once years ago I had to depo to withdrawn ££ from free spins on welcome offer, but I withdrawn the winnings and the deposit with no issue. Im assuming it was cause there was no payment method on my account. but this was the minium £10 depo. Anything larger would of been red flags and just plain wrong

I recall when I first started playing online slots-and before finding Casinomeister- I sought out all websites that advertised free spins on sign up casinos and went through their lists to sign up for any free spins I could find to try to take advantage of. I viewed it as fun and free gameplay. When you manage to sign up and be able to withdraw real £$ it was a buzz.
Sometimes it was a real chore to recieve those winnings and sometimes it was impossible. Then there where casinos who insisted that you deposited and played through that deposit at least once before being able to withdraw your balance only to find the deposit very quickly deminish. Sometimes the deposit was attached to a bonus with harsh playthrough terms that leaves you with very little hope of freeing your initial win before busting out.

Then I found this site and found It best to just stick to the guard rails provided by Casinomeisters accredited casinos.
