Gotye Remixes Youtube

Gotye is a talented man.

He has remixed some of the Youtube covers and parodies of his song "somebody that I used to know" into a 5 minute mash up!

I thought it was brilliant!! Clever!!

It actually sounds really good too!!

He states in the comments that all the music in the clip is directly sourced from the videos and all he has used is some pitch correction, EQ and time stretching!

I was really impressed!!

That sucks. Even the copyright holder himself has his own content blocked by Youtube.

If the original videos are also blocked, this means that even parody gets blocked by Youtube, not just the actual work. Supposedly, there is a manual stage in the blocking procedure where Youtube first notifies the copyright holder's management company of a potential infringement having been detected by it's AI, and only when the infringement is confirmed does Youtube block it.

This means that the company acting on Goteye's behalf blocked him from putting his own creation onto Youtube.

Now, why blocked in Germany, but not in the UK. Surely an infringement is an infringement wherever you are, else a defence that local law permits it could be used by anyone targetted by such organisations.

Such blocks are easy to get around, just remember to change back to the default PC configuration before playing at a casino
