To what what extent to you feel you're addicted to gambling? Is it something you feel you have fully under control, or does it control your lifestyle?

I believe that we're all hooked in some form, and that many of us are in denial by dismissing its severity.

I know that gambling has encroached aspects of my time, and it's all well and good because I have money. However, what happens when you can't gamble?

Do you believe that you can ever truly stop gambling by choice?

I couldnt gamble in July due to laptop breaking.
And I didnt give a shit.
Didnt miss it at all.

Yeah I noticed your enforced break because of your laptop woes. Sometimes it takes something like that to break the routine, plus having other interests.

Plus you get more time to hone the old lighthouse snaps

Yes, I'm addicted and have self imposed limits and TAB's all over the place. Is it a problem? yes and no - I have managed to be £250 in profit in last few days and never reversed my withdrawals, so no it is not a problem that I need to play to the end, but yes it is a problem in that I enjoy playing and do envisage me getting a monster win at some point!

Could I go without having a flutter? Deep down yes I can, but I do push the limits in getting to play - namely if I am up to my deposit limit, I will open an account elsewhere to tide me over!!

I don't max out credit cards nor deplete my bank account, so realistically it is not a problem with money, it is more a psychological problem in setting time aside to play and as many have said, it is breaking that routine. Late night quiet times once wife and kids are in bed are the worse!

However, I would like the complete gaming industry to change as follows. The punter sets up one central account with say the UKGC which is verified and is a complete KYC package. This account is then used to open up gaming accounts at the casino sites. All SE's, TAB's and deposit limits are administered through the central account at UKGC, so once this account is SE, then no accounts are operational at any casino site level. Likewise one deposit limit applies to total deposits through all sites. My wishful thinking, but boy would that clear up a hell of a lot of issues elsewhere and is a true 'responsible gaming' policy!!

A few years back I was hopeless gambled like a lunatic - was VIP at a number of places (not that it mattered just meant I spent more)
got the comps the free meals ( royal Vegas credit to them were great at such things )

But then it became dark - I was chasing and yep it effected my life style and me as a person. Quit for around a year but love it so much decided to learn and master the art of responsible gambling.

These days I have depo limits on all casinos I play at. I use TAB very very often. Example at the moment max I can deposit in any given day is £10  at 2 casinos who don't have a depo limit under that.
The rest are either set to under the min deposit or im on TAB - never SE.

Casinos such as slingo are idiots for not allowing a below min deposit limit as all it means is I use TAB much more with such places. VS / Royal Panda you can set the min depo limit to what you want so I find I play there more often.

With limits I would do my brains in I know. 4 times in total the past 15 months I made the error of not setting a depo limit and could feel me chasing. Over all though with my set limits I enjoy it so much more. Never loose more than I can afford to flush down the toilet and never loose sleep on a loss. I really admire people who can control the spending without the need for using RG tools but for me its a must.

Total deposits the last 10 days = £20 quid :D as im on an almost total break - until next weekend then I will play again. And adjust my limits based on win / losses. Really feel for those people who get in too deep
as I know how truly awful it can get. Play safe people always and enjoy it.

Some can and do yes - but depends on the reasons they are wanting to stop. Its harder without support though. I remember when I was in deep I used a forum to help me kick the urges and it worked. Ongoing support etc but also it taught me some basics about gambling within my own means as in truth I didnt wanna stop but didnt want end up on skid row either

But yeah people can and do. Blocking software can work for some but its not fool proof. Sadly i know a few people who have lost so much and not just money who never truly seem to gain a hold over there addiction. And its grim to see. On my year or so off from gambling I found some really good forums etc which did help. But in the end I return to the fold - as I just foooking lov it too much

Some great posts here already. I'm happy that you seemed to have got your habit well under control, and it's great to see.

I had toyed with the idea of setting deposit limits myself as I find myself losing more and more from winning positions, and chasing on occasion. I have accepted that my impulsiveness needs to be curbed, and it's high time to set some limits.

Far better to have that feeling of having lost £20 than £200 I have no doubt.

Got so many sites I'm registered at, mind. Could take a while to wade through :(

It was a toss-up between this or whether the increase in the cost postage stamps can be justified :thumbsup:

If its starting to get to you then i would DEFO recommend setting deposit limits and maybe cutting back on the number of casinos you have open (T.A.B) but the latter is kind of taken care for those casinos where you can drop to a below min deposit level. What you got to loose ? You can always slam them back up again even though most places there is a 7 day wait for increase. but some have a 48 hour or 24 hour waiting period on an increase.

And this will sound a bit sad but I like the challenge of having a really low depo limit and seeing if I can reach a set target on cash out. Such as I did at VS the other week - deposit of 25 and was looking for 100 which I made .... then cause Im an addict I forgot my own challenge and played on ------------ bust  But yes you should maybe try it - who knows you might even enjoy having that saftey net .... and even with stacks of casinos you get through them 1 by 1. Its second nature for me now even when opening a new account I immediately set my depo limit.

Good stuff. But tell me, how did you go about it? I have at least two to three regular joints and many others that could be easily deposited at (but am unlikely to really play at).

And what sort of limits did you impose at these places? I mean even if you set limits at three places of say £25 each, that's still £75+ that can go quite easily. Did you close your 'surplus' accounts, and did this have any consequence?

it all depends on my economy and if i have been winning or loosing. If im loosing say 3 or 4 days in a row I pull the depo limits right down to the under the minimum. Or TAB for those casinos that don't have that.

But a usual week is 30 to 60 quid at VS

Then 2 other places say 20 to 25 a day the rest are set to zero or near as.

If I loose 2 or 3 days in a row at VS for example then I go on a break and use the free rolls for the week ... but it all depends on your own financial situation. And what you class as much or not much. As a rule if I am loosing more than 200 quid in a week then its too much. these days its usually less. And if I get some good wins those depo limits are increased. Start low then adjust it as you go along. Maybe choose 2 or 3 casinos for 1 week - set limits at them all and the rest TAB for a week or 2. And they are times when im on total break - no gambling for a week or 2 ...

Plus I dont chase bonuses - so that dont bother me and so I am personally fine with only 2 or 3 casinos max at any one time where I can deposit at. It gets risky if I have more open .... example if I have 100 casinos open with a depo limit of 10 quid a day at each of em .... like a termite I would eat through them all one by one 10 x 100 = 1000 quid :eek2::confused::eek:

So you stick to the two or three casinos and forget about the rest. Do you leave them dormant, but active? Do you set deposit limits at the other 97 casinos or just leave them as they are. Do you close your accounts with them?

I've just set some limits and it's pretty easy to do - I'm surprised how long it's taken me

Yes by either using TAB or setting a deposit limit below the min required to make a deposit

Do you leave them dormant, but active?

Yep I do I never use SE these days.

Do you set deposit limits at the other 97 casinos or just leave them as they are.

100 was rhetorical figure ;-) But yeah I set limits or TAB on every place I frequent in the dark of the eve.

Do you close your accounts with them?

Nope just TAB - and Depo limit so even when TAB is over I cant depo straight away and have to go through the pending period. So reduce depo limit then TAB if you are needing to.

I've just set some limits and it's pretty easy to do - I'm surprised how long it's taken me

For casinos that dont offer the RG tools I need I close the account down. Why expose myself to risk is my way of thinking

What the heck is TAB I remember tab clear back in the day, it wasn't the the best tasting drink to be fair, neither was ice tea.

I like Goatwack's answer, although am worried if he is doing lots of TAB's!!!

Alas, it is 'take a break' so not a minimum 6 month self exclusion (SE) but anything from a day to 6 weeks.
