Was happily playing at Videoslots tonight, when without any warning or permission from me, my laptop just suddenly shut-down and installed Windows 10!
Took about 90 minutes too - which was very frustrating!

At exactly the same time, my wife's laptop did exactly the same! (Hers was Windows 7, mine 8.1)

    Anyone else?
We can't be the only ones, surely? :what:

My ears have finally recovered from my wife's rant last week about the forced update!! She was equally as peed off.

Seems a bit bad as in the past you had an option to postpone the update or schedule it for when closing the pc so it didn't interrupt anything.

I hope you wasn't in a bonus round when it cut in!!

That's just total BS from Micro$oft. Seems that they are getting even more aggressive in shoving W10 down the throats of unexpected customers.

The dreadful GWX app was crappy as hell, and seems they are now pushing this update as recommended (it used to be listed as optional). GWX creeped up on one of my computers and it took some time to get rid of. They should let people choose to upgrade if they want to.

One way to prevent this is not to enable automatic updates. Just run windows update from time to time and review offered updates before installing them. Perhaps even this won't be enough, since MS seems to know what's best for the users of their software.

Totally agree with this. In fact I would have happily upgraded to W10 if it wasn't for the fact you are made to have forced updates on on W10. As long as that is Microsoft's policy I will be staying on W7. I do not have automatic updates enabled on my computer, I review them manually once every so often.

I very nearly got caught out at the weekend by this upgrade. A pop-up window said it wanted to install at 1AM but there was no link to cancel it

I found this program: You must register/login in order to see the link. and it worked wonders and saved me 3GB of space once as it had secretly downloaded windows 10 without my permission

My cat and his big hairy feet upgraded my home computer from Win 7 to Win10. (For those who don't have much experience with cats, things like this happen when MS Upgrade to Win10 Now? or Later? pops up on the screen and you start to click LATER and a 15 pound lovey cat jumps up on the desk and walks on your hand and keyboard while trying to headbutt your face in exchange for ear scratches.) So, no big deal after I figured out I could ignore Cortana and I still use Internet Explorer and Chrome browsers. Most apps installed require IE anyway. It did tell me something about WinLive mail not working in the near future? Haven't had time to look into it. (For the record I do not like have all emails from half a dozen email addresses dumped into ONE huge inbox.)

I have Win7 on my computer at work. MS better NOT force upgrade to Win10 as my current bookkeeping software has known glitches with Win10. grrrrrrrr

That description of feline action gave me a good laugh, for which thanks.

I've now been with Windows 10 for the last few months and I have to say I like it and have had no problems, other than a Seagate external storage drive which stopped working, necessitating some professional help to find a driver workaround.

Other than that - it's all good thus far.

I recently had Windows 10 forced upon me and ever since I have a pop up regularly appear without prompting and a very comely lady saying "I am sorry I did not recognise your command". When I eventually did ask her a command she shut my laptop down and when I logged back in I was met with a stern warning from Windows about my conduct

It seems this is down to dirty tricks. Microsoft realised that users had become used to closing the nag screen by clicking on the X, so they changed it so that clicking on the X now means agreeing to the scheduled upgrade to occur during the next scheduled Windows update. There have been a number of different nag screen variants designed to fool users into agreeing to upgrade when they think they are dismissing the nag as per usual.

Done that already on my Mum's laptop and my gambling PC. However, it has been said that Windows will try to sneak back in by including the nag screen and upgrader in a different update. I will have to see if it comes back on my Mum's laptop, because if it does, it means they have put it back via a different update.

I will probably upgrade to Windows 10, at least on some of my machines, but I will do it when I am ready to spend the time setting everything back up afterwards. I do not want to be forcibly upgraded on the last Friday of the 32Red 20K tournament, and lose out because I was out of action for the hours the process took.

I would prefer to install Windows 10 from scratch, rather than upgrade what is a several years old and increasingly unstable Windows 7.

It worked on my main PC but not on another, so yeah it may be sneaking in disguised as another update, in that case you can manually remove GWX.exe and all related files (might need to change windows permissions to del some files, but it can be manullly removed) I also came across the installation files for win 10 taking up 4gb on my SSD which were also deleted.

There's a good guide to removing manually You must register/login in order to see the link.

Well, i do strongly recommend to Disable all sort of automatic Update from Windows....Once a week, you may check if there any real Important Update, then choose the one you really need!

Solution, always turn OFF all Automatic Updates from windows and auto installation should be OFF as well.

Yeah I agree totally with this. If it wasn't for windows 10 forced upgrades I would be quite happy to run W10 I think. Sadly it is a dealbreaker. It's me who choses what goes on my computer, NOT someone else!
