FIRE!!!!! in my house...almost

So I set the automatic oven cleaner and proceed with my husband and 6 year old daughter to clean out her play room off the kitchen.

We are going along our way for about 15-20 minutes and the oven smells really bad, I'm thinking it's just dirty (can't remember last time I cleaned it )

So my daughter comes into the play room and says the ovens on fire!!! I didn't think too much, she's a kid right? WRONG...the was a fire inside our whole oven....my husband runs over tries to open the door, it doesn't open (automatic lock when oven is cleaning) he looks at me and says what do I do? I said turn it off!!!!! He turned it off and the fire went down slowly, and went out.

OMG!!! What a scare!!! I am never using that feature again!

Have you called the mfgr yet? It's possible there's a recall on your oven....that's definitely not normal.

It was really a good thing that he couldn't Open the door, because if he had, the extra oxygen would have hit the flames and made it even worse.......you ladies remember that...extra oxygen = more flames...

That's why I'm afraid to go somewhere and leave any of these 'automatic' things running. I'm so happy you were home and it didn't set your house on fire!

A friend of ours turned on her (4 month old) dishwasher, and left for work. When she got home from work that evening she found water everywhere... They had just refinished their wood floors a couple months before. Also the water ran into the central air ducts and ruined that, too. New floors... new ductwork... ruined carpet in adjoining bedroom... what a mess.

Copying Winbig....did she ever contact the manufacturer? Can you imagine how much money it took her to fix all that?????

My husband and I were talking last night, and said what if the house really did catch on fire? We would be screwed!!! I mean what do people do when this happens? Where do they go? etc.....

Thank God it did'nt go into the wall from the oven.
Automatic oven cleaner are great but they get very hot for 3 hours.
And you can't open the door until it cools.
This is why my wife stays out of my kitchen

Whatever was the cause of that? A lot of the time it's because of an installation issue. Did they ever get to the root of the problem, or was it a defective dishwasher? If either one of those, did they go after the mfgr or contractor that screwed it up? No sense in filing a claim against their homeowners insurance and having it raise their rates.

Just,, you need to make sure that if you are renting that you carry a "Renters Policy" or if you're a homeowner that you carry a "Homeowners Policy"...either one of these policies will protect your assets in the event of a loss or a major loss and it will also pay for temporary housing until you can get a settlement check...NO ONE should be without one of these important policies, these are absolutely essential in protecting your belongings and any loss you may have...if you do not currently have one of these policies then you are taking one hell of a gamble with your assets...and the most important thing to remember if you are renting is that your Landlords Policy Will Not cover the loss of Your personal belongings !!

But, if you've alerted them to the problem in the past multiple times and they never corrected the problem, you would definitely have a case for the civil courts...there is such a thing as negligence

She called the manufacturer. they offered to send someone out to repair the dishwasher for free. It was still under warranty and would have been repaired for free anyway. Manufacturer insisted that a clogged drain line (homeowners problem) caused the dishwasher backup. That wasn't the problem. Anyway, after thousands of dollars in repairs to the house, numerous phone calls to the dishwasher manufacturer, (the tech said there was something wrong with the pump and something else in the dishwasher that made it run over and keep running over, and a bad door seal -- there was a LOT of water in that house) -- the manufacturer sent her a new fancier model of dishwasher and had it professionally installed for free. Big whoopdeedo.

She did consider suing them... but she couldn't afford it after the repairs to the house they'd just paid to remodel only months before.

Oh. And her homeowers ins. wouldn't pay for it as they said the dishwasher people should pay, dishwasher people said they were only reponsible for repairing the dishwasher... Sounds like dealing w/ an online casino T&C don't it. LOL

Yes it does...,, you would just simply get in touch with your agent ASAP and they would issue you a smaller temporary check to get you by for the first couple weeks or so until their field loss agents and claims adjusters could determine the cause and settle with you...

If that's the case then the homeowners Insurance Company would have went after the dishwasher people on behalf of the homeowner, that's part of the policy provisions...
