Farewell 32Red Viper Client

Just as I discovered a way to play Jurassic Park its whipped away from me, was watching Hyperlinx stream and he was using it, so went to download it a few hours ago and link is broken. If only I'd have known, could've been playing JP since January.

Does anyone know any other casinos where you can still play using the Microgaming download Viper client?

Yeah, I have some fond memories of the old Viper client, and then cleaning the 10mb of files they used to store on my PC for each casino lol...

Smooth games, the daily free comp spins on say Avalon and Loaded etc.

Let's not forget the way it downloaded over several gigabytes of game files to a secret, hidden folder on your C drive :)

In fairness having the games cached locally wasn't a bad idea in and of itself, but hiding it away in a location you could neither define or change (or even see without changing Windows settings!) was a bit sneaky.

So there goes all the different flavors of video poker? Microgaming had THE BEST video poker selection hands down. They never recreated these games for in-your-browser play. Something that newer players never had to experience.

Now it's all about slots - ad nauseam. And the yawn-fest begins.

Absolutely.

Their many innovative and interesting non-slot progressive jackpot games will be missed too if they are not transferred over. What will happen to the accumulated funds in those jackpots?

A sad day for me and once Casino Rewards follow suit, the end of an era. :(

Say what you want about the file storage and stuff that the Viper client was guilty of, but I prefer to concentrate on the quality of the slotting (and to a lesser extent, the VP experience) that Viper provided. And for me, it was second to none.

I don't play anywhere near as much as I once used to, and this is just another nail in my slotting coffin.

Thankfully though, 32Red have enough non-MG games to keep me entertained, such as Creature, Money Train 2, Jungle Spirit and DHV.

JP is one of my all-time favourites. It was bad enough that I could no longer play other games on Viper (like Playboy, Finer Reels, BSG, Santa's Wild Ride and GOT) anymore, once Flash was decommissioned at the end of 2020. But the prospect of losing Viper (and Avalon2, IR and JP with it) too?

Yep. Gutted isn't even the word. :(

That's what I was referring to.
You could see them simply by searching 'MG' or 'microgaming' in your windows file explorer. Then you would have to mass-select them and delete. It did take a huge chunk of disk space admittedly.

From memory there were two main places it put things, a normal sort of folder under Program Files or something, with a subfolder for each Viper based Casino you had installed, where it stored the casino specific files for that casino. (The splash screen animation for example.) These folders weren't huge, 30-40MB per casino or something like that.

However it also created a hidden folder on the root of the C drive (think it was there) called 'mgs' (think it was that), and that's where it would put all the shared game files used by all casinos.

It would trickle download to this folder over time (not maxing out the relatively thin internet connections of the day), and only pull down a game at full speed if it wasn't yet downloaded and the user launched the game.

I do remember this causing concern for me before I worked out what was going on, as I had an old laptop I occasionally used for slots sessions that had limited C drive space, and I saw it disappearing despite me not actually 'doing anything' with it.

However I worked out what was going on with the 'secret downloads' and the riddle was solved.

TBH it was a perfectly good idea in many regards, but having some control over which drive to put it on, or a visible parameter somewhere, would have been nice!

Does anyone know any other casinos where you can still play using the Microgaming download Viper client?

32Red said to me that it was MG closing it down not them. But maybe that's not true?

I'm sure it was MG, it's probably only a matter of time before the abovementioned casinos also drop the client..
If not, then they would perhaps have other special deals with MG, such as actually owning the rights to the client, or something to that tune?
Who knows...i'm sure we'll find out in due time.

On the 32Red topic, i'd care, but they recently stopped catering to the Netherlands so i had already said my goodbyes :p

Shame, as the Casino has, and probably will always have a warm little place in my gamblers heart.
Back when things were simple, and i literally got pampered to shit, knowing some of the staff by name and having contact with them outside the usual Casino setting...

Good times!

i already said good bye to the client when 32red changed it tactics with withdrawals, it was my place to go to.
but sure was fun when it lasted, when they were dishing out games like The Dark Knight (still one of my old time fav slot)
but after they quit the payout twice a day and the reverse period came in place, i was only there every other month or so .

Sad to see it go but they killed off most of the good games already, the first nail in the coffin was the removal of MVP tournaments which were great back in their day, mg must be kicking themselves now when they see how popular the multiplayer battles have become on videoslots.

Did plan to have a few farewell sessions when I knew this day was looming.....

I managed one as the 3 second delay rule absolutely destroyed the playability of some of my time served, much loved classics (Thunderstruck, Agent Jane Blonde and Spring Break in the main)

Sad times as I had some awesome times on viper and more so at 32 Red, my once only played casino back in the day.

The fluidity of gameplay on the HTML5 version of the classic 9 liners is absolutely horrific mate.

3 seconds? It feels like closer to a minute. It's just painful.

HTML5 - the best way to completely ruin a once good/great game.

the html5 versions were done horribly by MG and Netent! , I've had old comments on youtube asking where I played slots like JP simply because the gameplay video looks so smooth in comparison to what other players have to put with up now.. , it does seem like a step backwards in terms of "player experience".

I'd still like to know what happens to the accumulated totals in the jackpots only available in the download client if they are removed network-wide. I know that in land casinos in for instance Vegas, there are rules that the casinos have to follow in distributing the funds back to players in some way, but don't know how it works online. Anyone know?
