Credit Card prob at Casino-on-net

No offense to you Rhonda, but it seems as if you have left out some information regarding the situation.

It seems suspicious to me that you would come to this site to post a negative comment about CON if you are not an internet gambler. For one, if have never gambled or at the very least researched it, how could you just stumble onto this site. Also if someone had stolen my credit cards (including my own child) I wouldn't know about it until my credit card statements came. Unless of course you were declined for a purchase when you knew you still had a balance and therefore started researching it.

Lets assume either your statements have arrived and you see unauthorized purchases or you just happened to figure it out some other way. You would just call your credit card company and tell them the charges were not yours. It is doubtful you would come to an online gambling fan site and post your discrepancies, unless you were a gambler. Otherwise why would you care? I would doubt you would be considerate of other online gamblers enough to let us know about a bad situation for you if you aren't indeed already an internet gambler.

Think about it. Let's say the minor ordered some expensive Omaha Steaks online and ate them all. You would just call the company or the credit card company and have the charges removed. There is no way you would go to a message board and complain about the treatment you have received unless you of course were already a member of some buyers club that had a message board.

It just doesn't add up to me. It seems more likely that you had an account at CON (which also seemed weird that you had abbreviated their name, it's as if you are comfortable with them), and the minor possibly used the account to purchase more credits. Online gambling is not advertised on many main stream web sites. It seems unlikely that a minor would get an idea in his or her head to take mom's credit card, do a search for online gambling, setup an account at casino on net, and then spend hours squandering money. The reason it was likely hours was that the casino said the play did not fit the profile for a 15 year old. Basically I interpret that to mean that the funds were not foolishly lost in a fast period of time.

I would also be careful about a charge back. I had a friend in high school (he was 18) that wrote some checks from his parents checkbook. They reported it as fraud, because at the time they did not know it was their son. It ended up that there was an investigation and their son was found guilty of fraud. He had to spend time in jail, real prison. After all if it was your account or your son set it up, it seems he would have used your correct home address to send the winnings to. Also does your son have a checking account, or a drivers license? Otherwise it still doesn't make any sense. How would a 15 year old receive the winnings, it would be impossible. First the winnings go back to the card, then a check gets mailed normally. Without a checking account to cash the check at, or at least a photo id to go to a check cashing place, it would be impossible. Even the check cashing place would be tough, because I think they would not serve a kid. Nor would a bank give a child a checking account. For the same reason they can not use credit cards, they are not of age to enter into a contract, which is what a check is.

So as the story stands now (in my mind), this minor was smart enough to get your charge cards, find casino on net, download their software, open an account, gamble a sizeable amount for some time, but was not smart enough to realize that there was no way for him to reap the benefits of winning if he did indeed win.

If you do a chargeback, it would seem, you are going to have to sign an affidavit that you do not know who it was that used the charge card. You have already told people it was a minor, so that would lead me to believe you know who it was. Maybe this won't happen, I do not know.

My advice would be to keep the charges, and make this kid get a job to pay it all off. That would be a good lesson to ensure it doesn't happen again, and may possibly teach him some responsibility. At the very least it would get him working on the weekends instead of gambling with your credit cards online.

Either way, even because you are fighting the charges, it is unlikely you will be able to gamble at CON ever (again), and possibly any casino online. They do share databases regarding this kind of information.

So is there any other info you left out of this story? Or am I just trying to read into this more than there is? Either way, at least you now have a differing point of view that the people on the other end of the dispute may be thinking.

Well Steve...your comments were fair and I will respond back to them. First of all I've NEVER said it was my child, it was a neighbors son that was spending the week with me while she was out of town. And let me now add this....you're reading way to much into it but I'm glad to hear your opinion.

First of all, I found out Sat morning when I was contacted by one of my credit card compaines security and fraud department that an attempt had been made to use my card online...(they didnt tell me where) and that the card had been declined due to the experation date had been entered wrong. They wanted to know if I was still in posession of my card. Well..that immediately made me check the status of my other cards and that's how I found out what was going on.

Since I knew who had been using my computer all week I went right to the source and asked him and he admitted to me what he had done. I did at one point in the week get an email about a credit card had been declined but I deleted it thinking it was nothing since i hadn't ordered anything. I had given this boy access to my internet account so he could use the computer.

As for how he downloaded Casino on Net...well, he has older friends that gamble online and are big into sports betting and he knew they had talked about that siteso hence he found it.

Now the reason I came to this board was because I was doing a search on online casino complaints and this was one of my choices. I'm not an online gambler and it can be checked and verified that i have NO online casino accounts. And believe it or not even though it's not something I partake in i would warn others of something that I don't necessarily think is a good thing.

As for me calling them CON...well if you've sent as many emails to them as I have you'd be calling them the same thing. An account there with my name on it was only there for 5 DAYS!

As for why I didn't immediately dispute the charges...you said it...I didn't want to see the kid get into legal trouble. A 15 year old can't be legally held to a contract anyway.

Anything else I can answer?

In Rhonda's defense, I'd like to add that this is the first site I came across that seemed to be a legitimate sounding board for complaints about online casinos, as well as containing good posts from well-informed people (not so much SPAM). Heck, I'm still here a year later.

I'd bet that this is why Rhonda posted here as well.

Oh, man, has that kid got problems. I have a 15 year old, and if this kid is:

a.)hanging out with older kids teaching him the facts of gamblin' life
b.)swiping the credit cards of the nice neighbor lady who lets him stay at her place while his mom is gone
c.)using them for online gambling

He has way too much unsupervised time on his hands.

I have a 15 year old too.

I still suggest doing a chargeback. It's Casino On Net's problem to not allow underage players. If he'd won, as has been pointed out, he couldn't have collected.

Well that really is a bummer. Because now you can't even really hold anything over on a neighbor kid. Still seems it will be a hard sell, because who would open an account in your name for casino winnings.

Have you talked to his parents about getting you paid back?

This is definitely a VERY unique situation. Of course the more outlandish (unique) the story, the more it is gonna seem like a lie to the credit card and casinos.

Are you out so much money that the parents of this minor won't be able to reimburse you? I would put the burden of deciding what to do on them. Either they pay you back the funds now, even if they have to take out a cash advance on their credit cards, or you report it as fraud.

I am trying to brainstorm here for you, but I just can't think of any good ways out of this mess. I can foresee that even if you report it as fraud, it is gonna be your word against the kid. And it seems that the circumstances are gonna be real hard to convince the people that can do anything about it as being true. Having to file a lawsuit in small claims court against the parents will not be good either. Hopefully you don't have to end up moving because this situation I could see blowing up into a really hatred between neighbors.

What kind of card was it? I think I heard that Mastercard was not really taking casino purchases anymore. Or at least that they changed their procedure for it, to make it more difficult. Not sure how that could help, but maybe at least give you some more fire to your arguments. Or maybe arguing that it is illegal to take bets from people that live in your state? Not sure where you live, but you might try to argue that. I know the OPA tries to rectify situations for its members. Maybe you can see if they can help at all, membership is $25 I think. I don't know if they could do anything, but it may be a place to look for assistance.

I hope the best for you. I know I am definitely gonna keep updated on this thread to see what eventually happens. So now that you started this thread here make sure you keep us updated :) Don't just disappear if you end up with a positive conclusion. For some reason it is my impression that many times the best of the best casinos will correct problems such as this eventually. I believe CON to be one of the better casinos from all that I have read.

I tried to write the previous mesage as non-accusatory as I could. But I realize it probably had the tone of a personal character attack. I just wanted to fill in the blanks, because my logical nature just automatically figured it doesn't make sense, and I couldn't get my points across without being a little pushy.

But I have no reason not to believe you. The story is definitely strange, but your response fills in the blanks for me. I could see how it could happen, and I can now see why you have taken the steps that you did. Kudos to you, I would have just placed a chargeback if that happened and let the kid deal with the consequences. I am sure you are close with the neighbors since you let them keep their kid at your home for a week. That is tough being betrayed like that. Especially because monetarily being stolen from will likely make the relation very tense, unless it is solved quickly. Especially once those credit card statements start coming in the mail.

There is only one way I can think of you being able to get the money back, but its a big maybe. For some reason it keeps popping in my head. But I think it is not appropriate to say. So don't read this next sentence if you don't want to, you've been warned. It's the gambler in me thinking, heck just make another deposit and win it back. After all isn't that what the majority of us that read this board think after a losing streak? Probably innapropriate in light of your situation, but hey I said I was brainstorming.

Hopefully, this ends well soon.

LOL..OMG that was funny Steve. But the LAST thing I want to do is make a deposit and try to win it back. As you can see, I don't seem to be a lucky person.

I will say that I recently heard from Casino on Net and it looks like we may come to an aggreement on things without me having to visit the neighbors kids in Jail.

Let's hope!

Dear Fellow Gamblers,

My name is Justin Hayem. I am a manager at Casino-on-Net.
I would like to address a few concerns raised on this forum.

It is important to remember that it is a responsibility of each person to learn and understand policies of any organization before making a purchase. Most legitimate casinos, including Casino-on-Net, make their Cashout Policy very easily available.

We have answered Rhonda and sent the reply to the Webmaster of this page as well.

I would like to stress that we always sign our messages and identify ourselves as Casino-on-Net personnel. This is a policy.

Rhonda...did you tell the boys parents what he had done?? Where did he get your credit card numbers?? If you didn't give them to him then he stole them. I think the parents ought to be told and have them decide whats to be done.

Opening an account is one thing...but stealing your credit cards numbers and using them is a felony. His parents are responsible for his actions if he's under 18. I'm sure they can make him see the error of his ways...if not... the police can.

Hi all,

Just to quickly jump in here to clarify a couple of things. Whenever there are postings like the ones in this thread, you can rest assured that I am in the background scrambling to try and get the managers of a casino to respond to whatever issue is being brought up, because like any business transaction, there are two sides to consider. I feel that a worthwhile board is one that welcomes all sides to share their thoughts, whether they be thoughtful or unintelligible.

Thanks Rhonda for choosing this forum to share your dilemma. This board has been operational for nearly three years and has been enriched with posts like yours. Not that your episode with this "rogue" teenager is something we covet, but we all learn from the numerous comments throughout this thread, and threads like this.

And as you may note by now, one of the wisest things that anyone can do when faced with a problem is to share their problem with ones who can give quality advice. (but I don't think I would try to "win" back my money). That's why this forum exists.

Good luck, and I hope you are able to resolve this quickly without a public whipping :)

Please let us know how it all turns out!

Bryan

Wellll...as Justin stated in his post 2 days ago, they did respond to me..(He and Chris of Security), and he gave me several options in the email. I agreed to one of those options and immediately within 1 hour of him emailing me and 30 minutes of him posting on here emailed he and Chris both back, 2 days ago. What I wanted in that email was 2 things, a breakdown of the charges onto what credit cards, and what exactly I needed to do to make what I agreed to happen. I haven't heard back from him. I emailed him again last night and another time today...still haven't heard back from him. I'm sure there very busy people, but I would like to get all of this taken care of so I can leave everyone alone. Just wanted to give everyone an update.

Rhonda

Dear Friends,

Rhonda did have a good luck. The problem is solved.

See you at the tables!

Justin Hayem,
Casino-on-Net

Yes it was solved. Thanks to Justin and Chris for working with me on this! It was much appreciated!

Don't play on casino-on-net if you want your credit card be safe. The simple scan for netbios shares for their subnet: xxx.xx.xxx.x (admin note: edited for security reasons) notewill get you the host where you can find the complete .mdb file with all players info, incl. credit cards, passwords etc.
Once again., I strongly suggest do not play there.

Jeez Anon - haven't you just compounded the problem by publishing that in detail when a simple warning would have sufficed?

Dear Anon and other guests of the forum,

I do not know how substantiated is this claim, but I have asked our Security and Tech Departments to look into this. We will report the results to you.

Sincerely,
