I think the millions of dollars raised in support is no mean feat and that alone could be seen as a triumph against an oppressive regime.
Along with the fuel stolen and then returned by the Police, five provinces back down over mandates, spur of protests around the world, throw in the character assassinations and misinformation about protests being anything but peaceful. Chuck in the emergency powers on top, and I would call it a triumph, and most definitely a demonstration of where the power ultimately lies if we band together. They were against the ropes for a while.
Have they been removed yet? New Police Chief reckons this weekend, doesn't he?
Not a bad result, however it plays out. If it gives some people a little encouragement to stand up for human rights and the rights of others, it's a success in my humble opinion.
Oppressive regime?
Are we talking about Canada?
Canada has
-paid maternity/paternity for a year.
-Free university.
-Paid unemployment benefits when you lose your job.
-Free medical system.
-Pension plans and social welfare for whose who need it.
And on and on.
When covid hit in March 2020. Within days of closures
-People were paid $2000 a month when they lost their job because of covid closures.
-Retirees over the age of 65 got their pensions supplemented.
-The government gave Businesses money to help with rent, loss of business paying for workers and and and ….
-billions of dollars were given away to private citizens and businesses alike for the last two years …
so PLEASE use the words oppressive regime for some other country other than Canada. You do not know the Canada we know. And it is diminishes the struggle of citizens in real oppressive regimes.
Real oppressive regimes don't mess around. They don't let truckers line the streets of their capitals with banners that say FUCK YOU to the dictator. For weeks on end.
The Canada you call an oppressive regime is a mature democracy, which is the envy of the world, despite its shortcomings. The same can be said of democracy in every province of this country.
You might wanna ask the Cuban activist who will now spend 28 years in prison because he took part in some protests last year in Cuba. Immediate action on the part of that dictator to get rid of all protests came swift and fast. Thousands were arrested and Within hours the protests were broken up. That is not freedom. That is an oppressive regime. And what were they protesting. Lack of food. Those who were arrested did not have the protection of a Bill of Rights and the "judges" who look into their case are not independent of politics. They ARE the political.
As for standing up for the privilege of not taking the vaccine. Good for them. But they do not represent the people of Canada.
Canada has a 90% vaccination rate.
70% of Canadians want them to leave the capital. Peacefully.
As for provinces lifting mandates cuz of the so called freedom convoy… each province prides itself on functioning independently within the country and they do not take kindly to people other than the powers that be in the provinces telling them what to do. If the mandates are being lifted it is purely political as there are provincial elections coming up.
