Casinos closing and No US players

I'm not really into the affiliate sector but I've seen some pretty wild conspiracy theories this past week, I can tell you!

BTW, great to have you back Stanford - I hope you're going to be around and contributing again.

There is an ugly theory developing at WOL that some of the companies are stripping out the webmaster. When they decide it is alright to let U.S. players return, they won't be linked to the original affiliate who referred them.

Stanford

Yes I've seen some good conspiracy theories too. By the by, the only one I tend to agree with is the B&M angle. However, reagrds this one above, I think it's simply a case of the fact that the ones who have pulled have had to because they are mostly PLC (or governed by PLC) and ignorant shareholders are pulling out so fast they have to take quick action to reassure them. In fact, I'd guess that those that have pulled the US are probably more likely to need webmasters when they return to the fray to try and recapture their positions in the market.

Of course, the real problems will come when/if HR4411 goes through...it's still very much on the table.

Boss Media to close

Jetset (WOL version) mentioned a press release by Boss Media that they are closing once the bill passes.

Link to press release: Link Removed ( Old/Invalid)

Don't know what news is hitting Asia Spear, but out here (OZ) in yesterday's business section of one of our daily papers, it made front page with the words, "stocks fall as US bans net gambling"...

The first paragraph reads:

The impact of new United States laws to ban some forms of internet gambling began to hit the Australian stock market yesterday...

I felt like emailing the editor to set him straight...

Cheers
Sadly, it wasn't only him - he was parrotting what the mainstream media in the US was reporting, though some of them actually had it right in their articles. Almost every report I read was titled similarly, though.

I think that companies announcing a pullout even before the legislation has been signed into law, however, is absolutely disgusting. I would dearly love to see Bush balk and refuse to sign, then watch these companies come crawling back on their knees begging forgiveness for their rashness.

Casino Tropez was rumored earlier in this thread to be closing to US players. It's now official as I got this email.....

Dear XXXXXXX,

Due to the recent passing of the Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act by the United
States Senate on September 30, 2006, and its imminent enactment as federal law,
we will no longer allow real money gaming activities from United States
residents.

We regret to inform you that, consequently, we are closing your gaming account
CTRXXXXXXXX [moot point to XXXX'd out the account number by now] at Casino Tropez.

Your balance is available to you. You may access your account and request the
withdrawal of such balance, subject to conditions that might apply, including
bonuses received.

We appreciate your patronage, and apologize for any inconvenience caused. We
hope to be able to offer to you our services again in the future.

This is a valid concern and under discussion. :eek2:

There will undoubtedly be instances of this.

Most webmasters will not be reinstating programs who do that.

We do have a long memory!

I just received this from Prestige... And though it says Prestige Poker, I am assuming it means the casino also (as I never played poker there). I haven't played the casino in a long, long while anyway... CS went down the toilet when they changed softwares and I uninstalled.
Dear blah blah,

Due to the imminent passing of the Federal Unlawful Gambling Enforcement Act by the United States Senate on September 30, 2006, we will not accept wagers from residents in the United States. We regret to inform you that, consequently, we are closing your gaming account.

Your balance, minus any uncleared bonuses, is available to you. You may access your account and instruct the withdrawal of such balance.

We appreciate your patronage, and apologize for any inconvenience caused. We hope to be able to offer to you our services again in the future.

Prestige Poker

Should they -- and the other casinos that are bailing out -- decide to stop cowering in the future, and reopen for US players, they can offer their services all they want till they're blue in the face ...

Screw 'em all and the horses they rode in on...

And this just in from Villento...

Dear .**** ,

With all the sensationalism in the news, you may be wondering how the new bill will affect your ability to wager online at Villento.

The new Bill did not make online casinos illegal and did not have any legal impact on players; players will not be guilty of an offence under this Bill. The Bill referred to illegal gaming operations, which online casino and poker rooms have never been proven to be. Only online Sports Betting operations have been illegal in terms of the Federal Wire Act.

In time the Bill may have an impact on a player’s ability to make deposits, however it remains to be seen what measures are introduced to enforce this bill and what measures are actually effective.

In addition the industry is monitoring what effect (if any) the bill will have on the Alternative Payment Processors such as Neteller, Click 2 Pay, Firepay, Citadel etc, and how they are able to structure their operations so that they can continue to take deposits. These are extremely reputable payment organizations and it is likely that they will remain committed to finding solutions to allow players to deposit. Over the past years, the majority of online players have already moved from using credit cards to using one or more of these trusted alternative solutions.

In all likelihood it will be at least 1 – 1 ½ years before we see some measures being effectively applied (the proponents of the bill have allowed 270 days for possible restrictive measures to be developed, and attempts to implement the measures are likely to take even longer).

Villento remains committed to its USA players and will continue to provide an exemplary gaming experience. Villento will always honor all payouts and withdrawals, and will always uphold the high standards that are required in being a Microgaming licensed casino.

Best wishes

David
CEO Villento
Because you love to play

Boss Media update:

As of today (Friday) US players can no longer make deposits through Webdollar to Boss Media casinos. However, they can continue wagering with their existing balances until Thursday, October 12, when access to the casino software will be discontinued.

Super Vegas Casino, a Boss Media licensee operated by Sportingbet and which uses its own banking system, has already discontinued access for US players to the casino software as of Friday.
