Casinos closing and No US players

I think that the good casinos that do not have the ban just stand to gain more business from the ones that are kicking out US players.

Excellent point. Could this actually be a windfall for the casinos staying open to U.S. players?

Bet365 run a sportsbook. Its logical that they should take this stance right now. Note how all the casinos closing are PLC and/or answerable to a PLC (Cryptologic) and/or running sportsbooks :)
Simmo, have any of the major Playtech casinos closed yet? I really liked Bet365 because their blackjack was Playtech software. Perhaps a better question at this point is: do any good Playtechs appear willing to stay open?

So far Twin Aces Casino is still open. I've done well there.

BetFred is the only Playtech to "announce" besides Bet365 so far. There have been some noises and Playtech are a publically listed company and their shares (PTEC) are in freefall. It must be an incredibly tough decision for them as, like Crypto, it would affect all their licencees. Here is their only statement so far (from AFX):

LONDON (AFX)

AIM-listed gaming software developer Playtech Ltd said the
new US gaming legislation unexpectedly passed by the US Congress this weekend
will have a material impact its revenues.

Playtech said it continues to receive legal advice regarding the impact of
this legislation and said that whilst it is not an operator of online gaming nor
a payment processor, it is clear that if the legislation becomes effective there
would be a material impact on certain of its licensees and therefore on its
revenues.

However, Playtech stressed that in the first half of 2006 more than 50 pct
of its revenues were derived from non-US players, a figure which it said is
steadily increasing as its adds more new non-US facing licensees.

Incidentally I would expect Playtech to be trying every which way to avoid banning US players.

UPDATE: Casino Tropez, Casino DelRio, Vegas Red and Europa Casino are expected to announce that they will be closing their doors to US players in the next day or two, however that is their decision, not Playtechs, and while it came from one of their affiliate reps, it's not been announced yet so it must still be regarded as hearsay.

Thank you very much for your support :) it's always reassuring to know that we are valued by our players and I am ever optimistic that the USA will reverse this legislation. Your voice counts!

Ryan

Ryan, you said it yourself ....."legislation" ..... which means "Not A Law Yet" so why ban us US players now ?

Why not at least wait an see if this gets signed into law ?

Seems as though you guys want gamblers but are not willing to take a gamble yourself...

Really going to miss playing at your casino Ryan, I have played with you guys now ever since 1995....you have gave us the best service and set the precedence for the way fast payouts should be handled....:notworthy

Thanks for all the good times Ryan

Nice. Casino Tropez, another one of my accounts. This is just getting better and better. I hear there's a nice craps game down on the corner, maybe Frist would like to have them arrested as well?

I was hoping to deposit with Kiwi this week, once my Neteller deposit to Bet365 reverses. Have we heard anything from the casino operators Down Under?

Thanks for all the info guys :)

I am assuming Neteller will just stop accepting US residents from making deposits, and still allow other countries like mine to use their USD accounts?

It seems that it will be 'illegal' (whatever that means...like 'illegal WMDs' maybe??) for any US resident to make any kind of money transfer to or from any payment mechanism that may be associated with online gambling. In that case, how would that affect US residents with positive Neteller balances? Would it be 'illegal' to receive money from Neteller, given their association with online gambling?

Every question I think of seems to generate 3 others - Mr Frist needs to take his meds and have a good lie down and let the people of the USA decide how they want to spend their money.

Dont ban it - TAX it. It worked for alcohol.

There's some news on this one this morning but I need to get clarification as the PR they sent me is ambiguous. It suggests that they will continue taking US players and bets until the Act is signed into law. I'll find out for sure.

32 Vegas (and probably others in that group) has a scrolling message in the casino saying that they no longer accept wagers from US players. However, I was able to deposit, play, and cash out.

I had this clarified - they will take US players up until the bill is signed. Once it's signed then that's it - bye US.

Re

Here is an idea for casinos . It seems us checks are exempt from the bill.

I payed last night at Jackots in a flash using instacheck. You litteraly just write out a check. The funds are instant.

Mabey more casinos can pick that up.

Hi Guys,

In the light of the recent US Safe Port Act, we would like to make the following announcement:

We will be continuing business as usual for the time being.
Once it is clear how the new law is interpreted, we will work at finding solutions so that your play with us can continue to be unaffected.

Better hurry if you see my post in time!! After 12:00pm Eastern USA Time, Kiwi Casino will not be accepting any more USA players....per a posting that Damian Dunlap at Online Players Union has there. Kiwi Gaming sent him a letter stating that.

From a Fortune Affiliates newsletter:

"the Fortune Lounge Group have however notified us that they are and will still be accepting USA players at their casinos and poker rooms"

Finally somebody with some balls who didn't run for the hills when those craven dirtbags in Congress rattled their swords.

OK.... it's gonna be an online gambling marathon for me during the next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Oct. 13th is the deadline if they are talking 10 calendar days)

Note- Not that I still don't hold any hope this will get thrown out, but its sort of like hearing rumors of Vegas or Atlantic City getting shut down in 10 days!

Re

Lol.

No doubt , didnt even think of that.

I think the Casios that hold onto Us players stand to make a good profit.

I got the letter from furtune . Im glad to hear it:)

Unfortunately I don't have time to scan the thread now to see if this has been said already, but the Bellerock group expressed on CAP that it is business as usual as far as they can see.

It's my understanding that's the usual MG policy. I received similar messages from the Jackpot Factory group and the Roxy/Splendido group, as listed below:

"October 4, 2006 – The management of the Jackpot Factory Group, along with the rest of the online casino community, learned last weekend that the US Senate passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which in essence prohibits banking and payment processors from making or receiving payments from online gambling operations.

Without a doubt, this is a serious development in our industry; however, the Jackpot Factory Group and its casinos are continuing with business as usual for the foreseeable future. We are committed to providing a fun and reputable online casino experience.

Over the course of the next few months, the Jackpot Factory Group, along with BrightShare, our exclusive affiliate program, will continue to monitor this situation. More importantly, though, players will still be able to find safe and secure online gambling at any one of our casinos and affiliates will continue to receive the professional service that they have come to know."

" We have had a lot of webmasters contacting us to find out our stance on all of this, and what will be happening with regard to Roxy Palace and Vegas Splendido’s US players.

At this point, we will be conducting business as usual and still accept US players at both casinos. Should any further developments emerge, we will keep you informed.

That said, I know a lot of people are still very concerned about the future and are looking at other avenues and markets, if you’re one of them, see below."

Furthermore, the media is magnifying the problem by calling the legislation "a ban" or "making online gambling illegal" when in fact the legislation only prohibits US financial institutions from transferring funds to online gambling sites.

Don't know what news is hitting Asia Spear, but out here (OZ) in yesterday's business section of one of our daily papers, it made front page with the words, "stocks fall as US bans net gambling"...

The first paragraph reads:

The impact of new United States laws to ban some forms of internet gambling began to hit the Australian stock market yesterday...

I felt like emailing the editor to set him straight...

Cheers

That old adage "never let the facts get in the way of a good story" is unfortunately all too true in the many media interpretations I have read on this legislation since the weekend.

Either through ignorance, bias or merely in the interests of presenting a rattling good, panic inducing yarn, some of the writers have shown that they are abysmally ignorant.

Maybe the American politicians counted on that too - scare-mongering sure as hell works as an intimidatory tool when wielded by the DoJ!

There's a good professional assessment of this legislation and its potential over at Cardplayer.com. It's worth reading, especially now the initial hysteria seems to be dying down.

Clearly some companies may have jumped the gun in waving goodbye to US players.

Ugly theory

Clearly some companies may have jumped the gun in waving goodbye to US players.

There is an ugly theory developing at WOL that some of the companies are stripping out the webmaster. When they decide it is alright to let U.S. players return, they won't be linked to the original affiliate who referred them.
