There is an ugly theory developing at WOL that some of the companies are stripping out the webmaster. When they decide it is alright to let U.S. players return, they won't be linked to the original affiliate who referred them.

Yes I've seen some good conspiracy theories too. By the by, the only one I tend to agree with is the B&M angle. However, reagrds this one above, I think it's simply a case of the fact that the ones who have pulled have had to because they are mostly PLC (or governed by PLC) and ignorant shareholders are pulling out so fast they have to take quick action to reassure them. In fact, I'd guess that those that have pulled the US are probably more likely to need webmasters when they return to the fray to try and recapture their positions in the market.

Of course, the real problems will come when/if HR4411 goes through...it's still very much on the table.

Don't know what news is hitting Asia Spear, but out here (OZ) in yesterday's business section of one of our daily papers, it made front page with the words, "stocks fall as US bans net gambling"...

The first paragraph reads:

The impact of new United States laws to ban some forms of internet gambling began to hit the Australian stock market yesterday...

I felt like emailing the editor to set him straight...

Sadly, it wasn't only him - he was parrotting what the mainstream media in the US was reporting, though some of them actually had it right in their articles. Almost every report I read was titled similarly, though.

I think that companies announcing a pullout even before the legislation has been signed into law, however, is absolutely disgusting. I would dearly love to see Bush balk and refuse to sign, then watch these companies come crawling back on their knees begging forgiveness for their rashness.

This is a valid concern and under discussion.

There will undoubtedly be instances of this.

Most webmasters will not be reinstating programs who do that.

Boss Media update:

As of today (Friday) US players can no longer make deposits through Webdollar to Boss Media casinos. However, they can continue wagering with their existing balances until Thursday, October 12, when access to the casino software will be discontinued.

Super Vegas Casino, a Boss Media licensee operated by Sportingbet and which uses its own banking system, has already discontinued access for US players to the casino software as of Friday.
