Brexit - whats the difference.....

I think the twitter bloke was a bit of a plonker, I'm a leave voter, and wouldn't dream of moaning about that queue and blaming it on brexit, it's amazing how the legions of remainers find these posts, so far it's had 36 thousand replies and 8 thousand retweets, the majority no doubt ardent remainers [not including you in that btw, just the brit eu remainiacs]

What did you expect. They dedicate a fair chunk of their day scouring social media for the next thing to be offended at or some piece of inane info they think backs up their quest for 'social justice'.

Ireland, where Google and other U.S. tech companies have their European headquarters, is staying in the EU, which has one of the world’s most aggressive data protection rules, the General Data Protection Regulation.

Google has decided to move its British users out of Irish jurisdiction because it is unclear whether Britain will follow GDPR or adopt other rules that could affect the handling of user data.

If British Google users have their data kept in Ireland, it would be more difficult for British authorities to recover it in criminal investigations.

The recent Cloud Act in the United States, however, is expected to make it easier for British authorities to obtain data from U.S. companies. Britain and the United States are also on track to negotiate a broader trade agreement.

Beyond that, the United States has among the weakest privacy protections of any major economy, with no broad law despite years of advocacy by consumer protection groups.

So the great lefty Chopley is proclaiming that farm workers/fruit pickers should be paid as little as possible so that farmers can stay in business?

Seriously Chopley what would your union friends say to the idea that we pay people a pittance to pick fruit just so a farmer doesn't go bust?

The issue with underpay is endemic and in an ideal world would be addressed (it's not just farming either, the social care sector (among others) is going to be hugely impacted by this), but the fact remains that British farms rely heavily on cheap EU labour to pick their crops.

I can't see that Trevor from Burnley who voted for Brexit is going to be keen to work 10 hour days on a Norfolk farm, starting at 5am in the morning, to make sure that crops don't rot in the fields.

You really hate the British Chopley, not all British are lazy and workshy most employers employ EU workers as they can exploit them and make their lives as bad as they want cos they can just "go back home if they don't like it".

Most workers are from agencies anyway which cost the employer more paying agency rates, I know from working in HMRC and speaking to a lot of polish or Eastern Europeans how bad the agencies are, one polish worker said he was going back to Poland as they treated him and his friends so badly.

Jesus fkin hell this bad loser Chopley still spouting on, pi55 off to Brussels then with the unelected no diversity clan you love so much!

I'm off to Spain next week, I love Europe, hate the EU...funny I can still fly there eh? a lot of you idiotic remainers thought leave meant no more holidays to Europe, hahahah thick as planks.

who's created this, some remainers in the civil service?

What about the higher wages earned by a british national circulate back through the economy? rather than being saved up and sent home to another EU country...

Also this looks like heavy handedness by the civil service in order to create a problem, I doubt many leave voters were bothered by seasonal workers coming over to help pick our crops, you could reduce the number of visas but saying no visas is shooting yourself in the foot.

Care work is a slightly different issue as it's not seasonal and shouldn't be classed low skilled either, I think we should try to fill these jobs more ourselves with perhaps a certain percentage of high quality workers from the EU in the mix, it's all about balance.

You can't go from an open door policy to suddenly the opposite without causing unnecessary problems, just be sensible and give firms a period of time to get the systems in place to be more self sufficient as a country regarding workforces, don't try and run before you can walk.

Regarding cheap food imports from the usa, looking at the price of fresh chicken in the uk I can't see how it could get any cheaper, but maybe more of our farmers will have to switch to organic and produce a high quality product that can be exported. Our apple producers can't compete with cheap south african apples but that hasn't protected them from supermarkets buying SA apples.

EU gripped by budget chaos after Brexit: Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden ( :p )REFUSE to pay for one trillion euro plan to help poor regions and fight climate change

A frustrated Czech prime minister Andrej Babis said there was 'no point continuing the summit' if the 'Frugal Four' refused to increase their contributions.

'If the group of four rich countries Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Austria insist, we can go straight home,' Babis said today.

The Frugal Four are unwilling to pay more to fill the Brexit gap, while Germany is also wary of a spiralling budget.

'The bilaterals took forever. But it seems things have not moved, the frugals keep on insisting on their position,' one diplomat said on Friday morning.

However, the poorer southern and eastern European nations want to keep generous EU funds coming regardless of Brexit.

Finland's 34-year-old prime minister Sanna Marin said the member states are 'still quite far away from each other'.

'There is a lot of ambition to this budget. But let's be realistic - Britain has left the EU and we are in a new position,' she said.

'The proposal has gone in the wrong direction. Finland thinks the overall level is a bit too high, we would like
to have it more moderate.'

Agriculture accounts for around one per cent of the EU's economy, but soaks up billions in subsidies.

Outside the summit centre, farmers rolled tractors down the street to push their demands for sufficient funds .

Doesn't come as too much of a surprise as the UK was a net contributor to the EU and budget debates have always been fractious.

Thing is, the money the UK allegedly 'spent' was 'repaid' in all kinds of ways, it wasn't just a straight hosing of cash into an offshore bank account, never to be seen again.

Moreover, it remains to be seen what the Tory government does with the 'savings', if Johnson just gives it all to his rich mates as tax cuts then it doesn't do folks in Northern constituencies much good, particularly if the factory they worked at closed down because it can't viably trade with the EU any longer.

Yep the good old eu supposedly a united group of countries who work together for the good of each other in harmony but when it comes to money  they just like everybody else me me me.

Who said they wont miss the uk's money?

It's probably going straight into the hs2 project, 10 billion net or whatever it actually was, 25 odd million pounds every day was a heck of a lot of money, on top of a EU trade deficit

The UK had an overall trade deficit of -£66 billion with the EU in 2018. A surplus of £28 billion on trade in services was outweighed by a deficit of -£94 billion on trade in goods.

The UK had a trade surplus of £29 billion with non-EU countries. A surplus of £77 billion on trade in services outweighed a deficit of -£48 billion on trade in goods.

Now what I don't know is how will no deal affect the financial service sector, being as the free movement of money is a given, can the uk be shut out of doing business with europe? It doesn't seem to be mentioned much, I don't think london as a financial centre can be excised out of the global economy. wealthy people in europe and pension funds etc.. want to be able to continue to trade and deal in uk equities etc..

edit: "The free movement of capital is the only one of the EU’s fundamental freedoms that extends beyond Member States to also apply to third countries. "

You do know what the transition period is yeah?

Yeah same as I know the remain elite told us straight after the brexit vote we would have mass unemployment, crashing economy, run out of food etc...none of it has happened and none of it will...

It's the EU this is doomed, the unelected mafia club is finished

Yes, lets give the EU £10bn of taxpayer's money and maniacally dance for joy when they refund £5bn with a caveat of how we must spend it. Bollocks.

I think you're still suffering from pigs-in-blankets anxiety mate.

These nations now worried about not being able to parasite from the UK contribution in future, well tough-titty.

I mean, the idea is the richer nations build up the poorer ones so they in theory become a prosperous market for our goods, sorry Germany's goods.

In reality their people leave and colonize those richer nations putting huge strain on infrastructure and services, and become an 'invisible import' by sending money home.

Choppers mate, it never worked, it was never gonna work and never will.

I agree with the sentiment posted above RE exploitation of cheap labour.

I lived with someone who worked at a manufacturing site for a major supermarket (not going to name names), he was a line manager there and he said the workforce was predominantly eastern European hired through an agency. They had little rights, could be fired on a whim (and were) and they were paid a pittance.

The only reason there would be a shortage of UK workers to do these jobs is because they wouldn't tolerate these conditions- and neither should they.

Big business should stop taking the piss and pay their dues...and that includes a good working contract, decent working conditions and a liveable wage. There really is no excuse for scumbaggery and greed.

It's still possible there's going to be an agreement that, mostly eastern, EU workers can still be hired for cheap, I wouldn't write it off just yet.

Businesses need to be grabbed by the balls and made to pay what is due instead of relying on cheap labour.

CEOs can award themselves 7 figure bonuses but plead poverty when it comes to recruitment. Bullshit. Greed.

Furthermore, if there is a shortage of labour for any particular job, the wage should be increased to the point that it is able to attract sufficient cover. Supply and demand. It doesn't matter if the job is low skilled or not, if there is a dearth in applicants, you have to make the terms of the job more appealing.

Neo liberalism has bypassed the need for this and provided business with an 'out' which has ultimately led to wealth being horded at the top of the chain.

Brexiteers should be enraged and demand they'd be made in the UK!

But I guess it is OK to use cheap labour in Poland when it suites you!

Have you pimped up your eye rolls?

Now come on Harry, play fair, the new passports will be environmentally friendly, which is one of the most significant factors the Leave campaign cited in it being worth the pain of the UK administering such an almighty punch to its own face.

As a side note, Priti Patel looks like she could literally eat your soul just by gazing at you.

This is a woman who accepts that the immigration rules she is now supporting would have prevented her own parents from making their home in the UK.

Such doom and gloom yet again. It is the "I'm all right Jack" attitude. Lets not build any more social housing while we are at it to drive housing costs up too.
