Question Advice needed regarding Paypal account "limited" status

I opened a new account with a new casino I had not heard of before that has a UK licence called Prospect Hall Casino. I deposited via Paypal and received a sign up bonus 100%, lost it and then made a second deposit again via Paypal. I deposited £30 and got £15 bonus. I managed to turn that into £1800, cleared all the WR and requested 3 withdrawals totalling £1100 back to my Paypal.
Now the casino were faultless - the money was transferred into my Paypal account within 12 hours. The problem I have now is that Paypal have some rules that stipulate that if you receive more than 2500 Euros into your account within a year, it triggers some EU legislation regarding money laundering. The result is my account is "Limited" - I cannot withdraw or send any money at present. So I upload some requested documents for proof of ID and now I am waiting for them to be verified and hopefully my account will be back to normal.

Has anyone here had this experience and if so how long did it take to rectify the situation? It is bad enough having £1100 just sitting there in limbo but this is giving me problems with ebay as I have bid on and won items that I am now currently unable to pay for using paypal.

Do other e-wallet providers such as skrill and neteller exhibit this paranoid behaviour or is this just a Paypal thing??

I had never heard of this 2500 euro limit, so if anyone here does use Paypal for deposits then be aware that this situation could happen to you too. 2500 seems a ridiculously low amount of money to warrant such behaviour.....

I would be very grateful for any input on the matter as Paypal website information is not particularly detailed when discussing the length of time that this takes to be resolved.

First, congratz, turning a 25 deposit in thousands is quite a nice profit.

To the paypal situtation. I remember years ago as my pp account was new it has also been limited in one situation, you have to get verified, sent in docs etc.

After that i never had any issue again. Paypal has many "alarm bells" (transfers from accounts which paypal deems suspicious, etc.. they have an algorythm) which may limit your account, and bad thing is they make the rules and you have to do what they demand. But i wont panic or fear, relax, you will get your money. Sometimes it can also be helpful to call the cs and ask them your questions, if you are worried about a certain thing.

So far i have not experienced such for skrill or neteller, my accounts had to be verified at start and since then no stress. I have no clue what happens if a really! big payment hits your netller or skrill, maybe then they also demand more stuff.

But back to topic, seems pretty standard to me, god thing is you cannot spent the winnigs on any more deposits or whatsoever ;)

I wish you luck..

I would never, ever recommend paypal to anybody for gambling purposes.

Any large withdrawal, BANG, limited and flagged. This happened to me.

They asked me for a business model explaining why I had so much money coming in, as well as supplier invoices.

I explained to them that this was not sales, and I clearly do NOT have that stuff. Account banned forever, money released SIX MONTHS later.

Never, ever again.

This was years ago, so I am hoping they have grown brains since, but I am doubtful.

Hmm this does not fill me with optimism then. Thankfully after the first 1100 debacle, I made a debit card deposit played a bit more then withdrew the last remaining 600 to that card so at least I will get 600 out of it.
I always thought that Paypal were very trustworthy and the pick of the crop when it came to this kind of thing. Oh well.....

Since this happened to me, I have used skrill/neteller, and both have been wonderful.

Paypal are very, very touchy and at the first sign of abnormality will jump on your money like fleas.

Sorry, I am still angry to this day. However, when I had to send my ID initially they were fine, so I reckon you will be ok :) - just be wary, I often wonder what would have happened had I hit some mega jackpot

I should add - 'no right to appeal' as soon as they ban the account.

The irony is that I was sh*tting myself about getting paid by the casino themselves (being a new outfit and not accredited here) but the casino were superb - I never thought it would be Paypal giving me the headache!! You live and learn.

Paypal did this to me years ago when I ran a business on ebay.
Once you hit a limit then bang, its limited.
To be fair though, once I did what they asked, they lifted the limitation quickly, matter of a few hours.
It was a cashback site what triggered my limitation

The biggest difference between PayPal and Skrill/Neteller is the level of regulation.
In 2007, PayPal Europe was granted a Luxembourg banking license, which, under European Union law, allows it to conduct banking business throughout the EU. Thus PayPal has MUCH more stringent rules to follow which explains several experiences people have made here.

PayPal has to follow certain criteria like deposit insurance or equity ratio like all others banks regulated in the EU. Skrill and Neteller offer "electronic money accounts which enable you to send and receive electronic payments". It's basically some sophisticated legal differences which make a BIG difference for the punters.

Let's just be glad to have the opportunity to use these payment options.

There are dollar amount limits. Because they operate primarily in the United States anything over 10k HAS to be reported to the IRS. There have been too many money laundering issues, so you just have to tell them you are an affiliate of the company and wait for documents to be approved.

i had similar problem with paypal in 2010...my account was limited and had to wait 12 months for limit to reset... once you are verified the limits will be lifted and you will be fine.

Well still no word from paypal more than 48 hours later, but my card withdrawal of £600 is already back in my bank account less than 24 hours later - and thats at a weekend.
Prospect Hall 1 - Paypal 0

Thanks for the advice - I already sent the documents. I am just amazed that an institution that makes as much money as Paypal can take so long to verify someones ID. I wish I had known about this account limit per year before I withdrew my winnings.
Hopefully this will give other members the heads up about this situation.

I wouldn't trust Paypoo at all. The dreaded 'Limited account access' e-mail. The hassle. You start with an initial limit on transactions until verified. You get various verifications, like SMS text code, a code sent to your home via mail, a coded transaction into your current account etc. Once you've done this you should be OK, but bear in mind they also can ask for photo/docs but that's unusual.

The problem is, if they suspect fraudulent activity you will not be able to withdraw funds for 6 months - this is to cover any credit-card chargebacks you may incur from your other customers if used for selling too. The have destroyed eBay accounts of may good sellers by their intransigence and irrational fears.

You should be OK as it's obvious in your case it's a gaming return.

Yeah it was a real eye-opener for me to be honest. I had no idea that there was a 2500 euro limit per year. I was in the middle of selling quite a few items on ebay but luckily I only had watchers and not bidders so was able to cancel all my items -not that I will get my listing fees back.
Also won a few items for purchase and have now had to rely on the sellers of those items being understanding with regards to my situation and accepting cheque payments.
Overall I am not impressed. I have already resigned myself to the 6 month worst case scenario. Seems that paypal can do what they like and as a user you have absolutely NO power at all to appeal these things.
Then again I am and always have been a "glass is half empty" type person so maybe I will get an email tomorrow saying all is well and can access my funds.
I was not aware of this limit and so I am sure there are other members here who are also not aware of it so I advise caution with the paypal withdrawal process.

Yeah, don't be too pessimistic. At their worst they are a train-wreck but your particular verification should be quick and relatively easy. They wouldn't want to upset their casino customers...

A few years ago I would have agreed but not so now. The verification process and potential holds on accounts has vastly improved. I have both a personal and a business account both without limits. Any issues I did have the UK based CS were and are fast at resolving. I process 1000s through my business account and have yet to have any major issues. Granted business support is different (faster) than the personal account support but basicially its a robust product these days.

I had the flag of reaching over 10k USD even though processing in multiple currency's. Its was a few clicks to confirm I was not USA based and all account limits were lifted within around 10 minutes. Its pretty easy to have multi currency's so you can deposit and receive in the same.

Paypal aint everyone's choices for online gaming but when it works its quick and cheap.

With a business account you also get a Paypal access card but of course I never have run gaming transactions through that account but can transfer money back and forth with ease.

Agree with the above statement, Been using PP for about 15 years, They had a lot of trouble years ago when ebay bought a main share in them, Lucky now ebay / PP are separated company's but still belong to each other,

I know a lot of company's was took for a ride, payments held and wanted receipts / Invoices / basic just about every thing but blood, Alot went out of business as they needed the payments to pay for other stuff and as it was on hold they was stuck,

It has come a long way since, As soon as your banks confirmed than your just about ready to go, Instant bank transfer to bank and trouble free, For most anyway,

Couple of articles,

Another customer was Tim Rogers, a supplier of portaloos for festivals. Each year when he gets a spike in trade during the festival season PayPal investigate his account and this year they froze 100% of his funds – some £33k.

According to customers that contacted Watchdog once PayPal freeze an account it’s impossible to talk to them and get some sensible decisions. Peter Cox complains of a feeling of helplessness that his legitimate business was pushed to the bring of bankruptcy trying to get his account unfrozen. He sent some 27 files to PayPal including everything from suppliers, invoices, identification, utility bills… the list was almost endless.

PayPal has told Watchdog that they work hard to make things easy for clients and they’re committed to getting better. In recent months they say that they’ve significantly reduced the number of UK accounts that are limited.

Peter and Tim are now back trading at full strength.

I've not had any problems with Paypal. Had quite a few large wins and they have all been paid with no problems. Been a lot quicker than using debit card. I usually get the money in my Paypal account 4-5 hours after cashing out. I think once you have sent in documents to verify your Paypal account then you should be fine. If casinos accept it then you would think that it means Paypal are ok with gambling transactions.

Well today I received the release on my account. Documents verified and 1100 quid now in my bank account. I think that timing of my submission was a bit of a problem (1500 friday afternoon) perhaps with the verification department maybe not working weekends. In total 72 hours waiting before being able to access my funds.
I am a very relieved person now but still worth thinking about for future for anyone who is not ID verified.
