TOP 10 Slots For Canadian Players
By Alex Smith, Last updated Mar 22, 2024
Unlike their US counterparts, Canadian players have access to quite a varied selection of video slots – from a number of world-leading game studios and developers. While you won’t find the likes of NetEnt – yet – offering their games to Canadians, some of the big-name developers do, and this includes the likes of Quickspin, Microgaming (Quickfire), Pragmatic Play Blueprint Gaming and Play’n Go. On this page, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the best games currently available to Canadians.
Some of these games will be relatively new releases – others will be old-school classics. Let’s get started!
Best Slots For Canadians
1.Mega Moolah
Mega Moolah has – for a long time – cemented itself as one of the world’s top video slots, and it’s not hard to see why. Despite a relatively dull base-game (and that’s an understatement), the game offers some insane win-potential, thanks to four progressive jackpots. The game itself was first launched back in 2013, and it’s built around a 5-reel, 3-row format. There’s 25 paylines in play here, and you can spin the reels from between 25p and £125 per spin. There’s a fairly generic free-spins bonus, which is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view – but the game’s real potential is found within the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot round.
The progressive jackpot feature is triggered randomly, and the higher the stake you’re playing at, the better your chances of triggering the jackpot bonus. If triggered, you will then be given the chance to spin a giant Wheel of Fortune-like wheel, and whichever jackpot segment the wheel lands on is what you win! The four jackpots include the Mini, the Minor, the Major and the Mega.
2.Immortal Romance
Immortal Romance is another of Microgaming’s ‘world-class’ slots, and it brings many players back to a much happier time – you know, a period where Microgaming actually produced slots themselves, and didn’t outsource them to third-party game studios. The game features a strong Twilight-esque theme, and a chilling soundtrack accompanies each and every spin. There’s plenty of bonus action to be found in the game, and the random feature – the Wild Desire – can transform between one and five reels fully wild. Naturally, this can lead to some monstrous hits during the base-game.
If you can land three, four or five of the door knocker scatter symbols anywhere in view you’ll enter the main bonus round – and here, there are four different bonuses to choose from. Amber – the most popular – awards you with 10 free-spins. During this bonus, all wins are multiplied by 5X. Forming a win with a wild symbol will multiply the win by 10X. Next up, you’ve got the Troy bonus. This feature awards you with 15 free-spins, during which vampire bats can randomly fly onto the reels, transforming symbols into 2X or 3X multipliers.
The third feature is Michael – and this awards you with 20 free-spins, during which a ‘Rollings Reels’ mechanism is activated. Each win removes the symbols involved with the win, and new ones drop down into their place. A multiplier increases on each reaction, up to a max of 5X. The final bonus is the Sarah feature – and this gives you 25 free-spins. Landing the Wild Vine symbol on the middle reel will see a random number of symbols on the reels also transformed into wilds.
3.The Dog House
One of Pragmatic Play’s newest releases, The Dog House is a 5-reel, 3-row video slot that’s set in; yep, you guessed it – a dog house! Like many of the game developer’s newer titles, there’s actually some decent volatility here, and the provider touts the fact that you can (theoretically, at least) win up to 6,750X your bet. The game’s 20 fixed paylines cannot be adjusted, and like all of Pragmatic’s games, you’re able to spin the slot faster than you can blink.
If you manage to land three of the paw print scatter symbols on reels one, three and five, you’ll trigger the main free-spins bonus – and you will then play a short mini game to determine the number of spins which you begin with. Once the free-spins have begun, you’ll notice that the wild dog houses become sticky – and they stay in place for the duration of the bonus. Because they’re multiplying wilds, there’s some great win-potential if you’re able to land a couple of them on a winning payline.
4.Sakura Fortune
Quickspin are often criticized for making games with little-to-no apparent potential – and while this definitely rings true for some of their older games (think Dragon Shrine, Wild Chase and Genie’s Touch), Sakura Fortune does actually offer some fairly impressive win-potential. The game’s set around a gorgeous Japanese princess, and there’s a few features worth mentioning.
During the base-game, if you land two or three of the stacked wild symbols anywhere in view, they may nudge into view to cover the entire reel they’re on. If this happens, you’ll be awarded either two or three re-spins, with the wilds stuck in place. Landing three or more scatter symbols on consecutive reels from left-to-right will trigger the main free-spins bonus, and here, you’ll begin with 8, 10 or 12 free-spins. During the bonus, landing a wild symbol (anywhere in view) will stick it in place for the duration of the bonus, and you will also receive one additional free spin. If you’re lucky enough to land all three of the wilds early on, there’s some surprisingly good potential to be found!
5.Book of Dead
Arguably Play’n Go’s most successful slot release to date, Book of Dead follows the life of Rich Wilde – an adventurer who’s on a mission to uncover some of the world’s greatest artefacts! The game is famed for its win-potential, and it’s built around a 5-reel, 3-row format. There’s 10 adjustable paylines in play here, and you can spin from just 1p per spin!
To be frank, there’s not a huge amount going on within the main base-game – but the bonus round is where all the action’s at. Triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view, you will be awarded 10 free-spins. Before the spins begin, one symbol is chosen at random to become the ‘expanding’ symbol for the duration of the bonus. If a winning combo is made when these symbols land in view (regardless of position) they will expand to fill their respective reels. To clarify; the symbols do not need to be on adjacent reels. Now, if the explorer is chosen as your expanding symbol and you manage to land five of him anywhere in view during the bonus, you’ll win the game’s maximum prize – 5,000X your stake!
6.Reactoonz
When you think of video slots, you may think of a 5-reel, 3-row format – or something along those lines anyway. Reactoonz – another popular game from Play’n Go – throws this conventional format out the window, and the game’s played out in a 7X7 grid. Wins are formed not by landing symbols on paylines, but, instead, landing clusters of five or more symbols. These can be in a horizontal or vertical line. When you do form a winning combo, new symbols drop down into their place – and each time you manage to ‘vanish’ 25 symbols from the reels, you’ll fill up one of the bars.
There’s a few different effects, and they include implosion, alteration, demolition and incision. Essentially, if you manage to fill all the bars up you’ll trigger the main Gargantoon feature; this will see a giant 3X3 wild symbol placed onto the reels, giving you a great chance of hitting big wins!
7.Avalon II
Avalon II is another of Microgaming’s famed ‘classic’ slots, and it was first released back in 2013. It’s based around a 5-reel, 3-row format, and the game uses a 243-ways-to-win mechanism, meaning wins are paid anywhere, provided matching symbols line up from left-to-right. There’s a mini in-game feature called the Merlin bonus, and this sees the wizard popping out onto the reels before awarding you a cash prize or multiplier value.
The game’s main attraction, however, is found in the Grail Quest – which is triggered by landing three or more of the Holy Grail scatter symbols anywhere in view. You will then have access to a number of bonuses, and as you progress, you’ll be able to play new bonuses. We won’t cover them all here, but the first feature you’ll come across is the Lake of Legend – you get to roll a dice ten times, and if you manage to reforge Excalibur, you’ll win a large cash prize.
8.The Sword and the Grail
300 Shields is one of the most successful video slots in recent history – and it’s produced by a game developer known as NextGen Gaming. While a few developers have attempted to imitate the game, few have done so successfully – until Play’n Go came along with The Sword and the Grail. The game is based around a 5-reel, 3-row format, and during the base-game, a nifty little feature can see wins multiplied by as much as 100X – without the need to land any special symbols.
It’s the main bonus round where most of the game’s potential is found, however, and this is activated by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so will award you with 10 free-spins, and like 300 Shields, each time you land one of the shields in view, you’ll progress up a ladder – this is shown at the top of the screen. There’s a 2X, 5X, 10X and 100X stage – and each time you reach a new stage, you’ll be awarded an additional 5 free-spins.
9.Rise of Merlin
Rise of Merlin has proven itself to be one of Play’n Go’s most successful releases in history – and despite only coming out a few months ago, it’s already become massively successful. Like The Sword and the Grail, it’s a bit of a clone – and fans of Merkur’s Magic Mirror Deluxe may recognize some elements here!
Landing three, four or five of the orb symbol anywhere in view will trigger the free-spins bonus – and you’ll be awarded with 12 free-spins. Before the spins begin, once symbol is chosen at random to become ‘expanding’ – much like we’ve seen in Book of Dead. However, if you can land another 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view during the bonus, you’ll re-trigger the bonus – and along with receiving another 12 free-spins, another symbol is chosen to expand.
10.Diamond Mine
Diamond Mine is a video slot from Blueprint Gaming, and it’s their first slot to utilize Big Time Gaming’s Megaways mechanic. The game plays out in quite a similar fashion to Bonanza – although there is one difference which shows itself during the base-game and the bonus round; the mystery symbols. If you land any of the barrel symbols anywhere in view, they will all transform to reveal the same identical symbol.
As with Bonanza, there’s a lucrative free-spins bonus on offer, and this is triggered by landing four or more of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. You’ll then be awarded with 12 free-spins, and an increasing multiplier ensures there’s plenty of win-potential on offer here!
Conclusion
While players from Canada don’t have quite as many game options as Europeans, it’s clear that some major game developers do work within the country – and you’ll find yourself able to play hundreds of high-quality games at the touch of a button!
All of the games above can be played at Canadian-facing casinos, and if you’d like to learn about the top sites which currently accepts Canadian players, then be sure to check out Accredited Casinos at Casinomeister.
