Casinomeister’s Verdict

I went into Hugo Casino expecting a bit of fun and, to be fair, there’s plenty to keep me occupied. The site is slick, the game library is huge, I had 29 payment methods at my disposal and my Skrill withdrawal landed within 25 hours. For a chicken themed online casino, it was certainly better than I suspected.

But Hugo Casino also made me work harder than I should have had to, especially when it comes to the casino bonuses. 45x wagering, a €5 max bet and entire provider libraries excluded from bonus play is a fairly formidable obstacle course. I’m all for reading the small print, but Hugo Casino seems determined to make me earn every last free spin.

My experience was therefore a mixed bag. Hugo Casino is slick, well stocked and easy to use, but the awkward bonus terms, patchy support and contradictory information stop it from being the effortless experience the flashy front end suggests. The chicken may be having a great time. I’m still deciding.

From the Desk of Max Drayman

Complaints on Casinomeister are zero which means we’re off to a good start here. Licensing is Curaçao which, for now at least, is a middle-of-the-road option because of promises made, so no fault there. Self-exclusion is via email only and no specifics are given regarding processing and action to be taken: not a great self-exclusion policy given how important that option can be to players in trouble with their gambling. Complaints handling appears to be in-house only with no 3rd party options on offer; that’s not really acceptable because disagreements between players and casinos is simply part of the business. To have no real path for the player to pursue is not a compelling case for there being a level playing field here. Overall the case in favour of HugoCasino is a bit thin here. If the casino were to shore up its self-exclusion and complaints policies we could be more enthusiastic but as it stands … “meh”. If you’re going to spend your money here we suggest you do it cautiously.

Pros

  • Pros 150+ game providers

Cons

  • Cons 45x wagering on casino bonuses
  • Cons Entire provider libraries excluded from bonuses

Hugo Casino Bonuses and Promotions

The bonus page certainly caught my attention, although not always for the right reasons. Hugo has gone for some rather unusual figures, with free spins appearing in quantities like 393 and deposit bonuses reaching 131%. I’m not sure what makes those numbers more appealing than their considerably neater alternatives, but they certainly make the promotions stand out.

Once I did get into those terms, things became considerably more concerning. The casino bonuses tend to come with a 45x wagering requirement on the bonus amount, and Hugo then caps my stake at €5 while I’m clearing it. That means I can’t simply throw a bigger bet at the requirement and get it out of the way. Slots count for the full 100%, but eligible instant games contribute just 10% and roulette a measly 5%. Most other games contribute absolutely nothing, while live dealer, table games and jackpots are completely unavailable with an active bonus.

The restrictions don’t stop there. Hugo has a huge list of games that can’t be played with bonus funds, including entire libraries from Amusnet, EGT Digital and Red Tiger, alongside plenty of exclusions from Playtech, NetEnt, Kalamba, Games Global, Swintt and iSoftBet.

There are plenty of other catches too. Bonuses generally expire after seven days, free spins must be activated within 24 hours and withdrawing before completing the wagering wipes the bonus and its winnings. Some bonus winnings are capped at five times the deposit, while free bonus winnings can have much lower limits.

I like that Hugo puts everything in black and white, but there are enough conditions here to make me reach for the terms before the deposit button.

VIP and Loyalty Programme

Hugo’s Loyalty Club is a serious grind, with 100 levels across eight tiers from Silver to Onyx. I earn one point for every €5 bet on slots, with rewards starting at 20 free spins and eventually reaching €10,000 + 4,000 FS at level 100.

The rewards become more generous as I climb, but they come with 45x wagering, expire five days after activation and must be activated within two days. There’s cashback, promotions, birthday rewards and a personal manager too, although the FAQ contradicts some of the main loyalty page’s tier details.

It’s a decent extra if I’m already playing, but with that much wagering involved, I wouldn’t sign up purely for the loyalty rewards.

Hugo Casino Payment Options and Withdrawal Speed

Hugo hasn’t exactly skimped on payment options. I counted 29 ways to deposit, covering the usual cards and bank transfers alongside Skrill, Neteller, MiFinity, Revolut and a sizable selection of crypto. Withdrawals are supported through 18 methods, although there’s an important catch: Hugo generally wants me to withdraw through the same method I used to deposit. If that option isn’t available for withdrawals, it reserves the right to choose another one.

I used Skrill for both sides of the transaction and had my withdrawal back in my account within 25 hours. That’s not going to win any prizes for speed, but it was still comfortably inside Hugo’s stated 24-48 hour timeframe for e-wallet withdrawals, so my own experience matched what I was promised.

The other timeframes are less exciting. Bank transfers and cards are given 3-5 days, while crypto sits at 24-48 hours. There’s a 0-72 hour pending period on top of that, and the financial department only processes withdrawals Monday to Friday, so don’t expect much movement over the weekend.

Hugo Casino may ask for a passport or driving licence, proof of address, payment details and screenshots of the bank account or e-wallet you used. It can even request a selfie with your ID or extra documents if it wants to check a transaction more closely.

I’d pay attention to one other clause before withdrawing. If I’ve wagered less than three times my deposit, Hugo says it can charge up to 10% of the withdrawal amount or ask me to complete more wagering. That’s a fairly hefty potential sting if I’ve deposited, barely played and then decided I want my money back.

Thankfully, none of that complicated my own test. I used Skrill, requested my withdrawal and had the money back within 25 hours. So while Hugo’s terms give it plenty of room to make the process more complicated, my actual cashout was refreshingly uneventful.

Hugo Casino Games

Hugo Casino Game Providers

Hugo Casino has more than 150 providers across slots, table games and live casino, so I had plenty to get through during my casino review. The big names are here, including Pragmatic Play, Play’n GO, NetEnt, Evolution, Relax Gaming, Hacksaw Gaming and Games Global, which gives the library a solid base of familiar games.

What stood out in the lobby was Hugo Casino’s push towards NeverEnding, Belatra and MegaFair, giving these providers plenty of visibility rather than letting them disappear among the wider selection.

There’s plenty of variety beyond those names, with Nolimit City, Push Gaming, Big Time Gaming, 3 Oaks, Slotmill, AvatarUX and RubyPlay included. The live casino is well covered too, with Evolution, Ezugi, Playtech and Imagine Live.

Hugo Casino Slots

Exactly how many slots Hugo Casino has is surprisingly difficult to pin down. I even asked live chat, which had an automated “how many slots” prompt ready and waiting. I assumed that meant I was finally about to get a number. Instead, I got a cheerful speech about having “a great variety” of slots and an invitation to try demo mode. So, no number then.

From browsing the lobby, the selection itself is much easier to assess. I found a decent mix of familiar releases and different styles of slots, with Hugo’s Specials standing out as the most interesting category. I initially assumed these were exclusive Hugo Casino games, but spotting Big Bass Bonanza 1000 and Starlight Princess made it clear this is simply where Hugo Casino puts the games it wants to push.

So while I can’t tell you exactly how many slots are here, I can tell you the library isn’t lacking in variety. The bigger issue is that Hugo Casino makes it oddly difficult to quantify what it actually offers, even when its own live chat appears to anticipate the exact question.

Live Casino

Hugo Casino has covered the live casino basics rather nicely. Ezugi, Playtech, Evolution and Pragmatic Play are all here, bringing the usual blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker tables along for the ride. No surprises, but at least I’m not short of options.

Crazy Time, Sweet Bonanza CandyLand and Treasure Island are all available, so I can swap sensible betting for brightly coloured game shows whenever I fancy pretending I have any idea what’s going on but enjoying it all the same.

The selection is varied enough and the big providers are well represented. Hugo Casino hasn’t exactly discovered a new species of live casino, but there’s plenty here and I found very little to complain about.

Hugo Casino Experience and Features

I’ll be honest, I spent a surprising amount of time following Hugo the chicken around the site. He has quite the wardrobe, too. One minute he’s in a Hawaiian shirt, the next he’s in a full tuxedo and then suddenly he’s wearing a bunny onesie. My personal favourite is the giant grape, which you can find on the promotions page. I have questions, but mostly I have respect.

Thankfully, the actual site experience is just as seamless. Registration took me less than a minute and depositing with Skrill was refreshingly painless. I could get from one part of the site to another without having to hunt around for whatever I needed, which sounds basic but isn’t always the case with casino sites.

There’s no Hugo Casino mobile app, but I didn’t really miss one. The mobile site works perfectly well, although I did take a look and quickly decided I needed the biggest screen possible to properly appreciate Hugo and his increasingly questionable wardrobe choices.

Responsible Gambling

Hugo Casino has the basic responsible gambling tools, but I’m not convinced there’s enough here for players who genuinely need support. There’s a take a break option, reality checks and self-exclusion, but the overall setup feels limited.

The take a break and reality check tools are available through account settings. I can choose a one or three-day break, while reality checks can be set for 30, 60, 90 or 180 minutes. They’re straightforward, although the reality check is ultimately just a reminder.

The self-exclusion section is where Hugo Casino really loses me. Instead of simply explaining how to close the account, it talks about “saying goodbye” and choosing “a new path without gaming”. For something this serious, that language feels far too cutesy and manipulative. I also have to email support to self-exclude rather than doing it directly through my account.

The basics are there, but that’s about it. For a casino asking players to take gambling seriously, the safety net feels pretty thin.

About the Hugo Casino Team and History

Hugo Casino launched in 2023 and is operated by GBL Solutions N.V., a Curaçao-registered company with registration number 155090. So, despite Hugo Casino’s chicken mascot making it look like this is all one big poultry operation, there’s a rather more conventional company sitting behind it.

The licensing history is worth a look, too. Hugo Casino originally operated under Curaçao master licence 8048/JAZ2020-074, issued through Antillephone N.V. It now sits under the newer Curaçao Gaming Authority framework, with GBL Solutions holding licence OGL/2024/589/0556. So if you come across the old licence number elsewhere, that’s why it doesn’t match what you’ll find today.

GBL Solutions is running considerably more than Hugo Casino, with other gambling brands linked to the company including Rolling Slots, Wild Tokyo, Need for Spin, Spinline, Winshark and Ritzo. Hugo Casino is therefore part of a much bigger casino operation, rather than a lone chicken running around with a website.

There is one regulatory issue in the operator’s history worth flagging. In 2023, the Australian Communications and Media Authority issued GBL Solutions N.V. a formal warning concerning Rolling Slots and Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act. That action was against Rolling Slots, not Hugo Casino, so I’m not going to pin it on Hugo Casino just because they share an operator.

There’s no need to turn this into a conspiracy board with red string and screenshots just yet. I’d be wary, but nothing is raising red flags that result in complete avoidance right now.

Player Comments on Hugo Casino

I expected a few more opinions on Hugo Casino given it launched in 2023, but the Casinomeister forums are treating it like someone mentioned a casino at the wrong dinner table. Nothing. No heated withdrawal debates, no glowing praise, no angry posts demanding answers.

I’ll be keeping a beady eye on this one. Let’s see whether Hugo stays out of the henhouse.

Complaints and Track Record

With the Casinomeister forums barely making a peep about Hugo Casino, it’s hardly surprising that the complaints department is equally quiet. There are currently no complaints submitted against Hugo Casino, so there’s no dispute history for me to pick apart.

If you do run into an issue with Hugo Casino, you can use our Player Arbitration Service to submit a complaint and we’ll see if there’s anything we can do to help. More complaints also give other players a clearer picture of how a casino handles problems when things don’t go to plan.

Customer Support at Hugo Casino

Hugo Casino offers 24/7 live chat, email, a contact form and FAQs. I used the contact form and got a reply by email the following day, so it essentially does the same job as emailing support, just without making me leave the site, write a subject line and send it myself. The catch? No attachments, so I can’t even add a screenshot if I need to.

Live chat was less impressive. I had to get past a bot spitting out generic answers before reaching a real agent, and even then I had to push for the information I wanted. I asked how many slots Hugo Casino has and, despite there being a “how many slots” prompt in the chat, I never got a number. Apparently “a great variety” was considered an acceptable answer.

The FAQ covers the basics, but overall I wasn’t exactly blown away. There are plenty of ways to contact Hugo Casino, but getting a straight answer can take some work compared to other online casinos.
