I read somehwere that a casino sent cash to a winner at one time when the fiasco of the payment processors were being hit hard by rules and regulations. Why isn't cash an option? I have always wondered that.

If a check can be sent by registered mail, why can't cash be? If one has to sign for the overnight envelope anyway, why isn't cash an option too? I know if I had my choice, I would choose this EVERYTIME , even if it meant waiting a few extra days for it. Once cash is sent, and registered by mail...and delivered...and signed for... (once a peek inside suggests all is well before signing) what stops the casinos from doing this???

Just wondering since one casino has already done this and it worked well for the customer and the casino!

It's risky to send cash because if it was lost or stolen, it's gone forever. If you send a check and it gets lost or stolen, you can always cancel the check and send a new one.

If it was registered and got lost or stolen, the insurance would kick in to cover any loss I believe, so that wouldn't make a difference IMO , I would think.

The sad thing with sending money that way is that it would be too risky for those who deliveres them.
There are too many robberys as it is, and since cash soon not will be an option anywhere, I don't think it's such a good idea.
Having too much money at my home would make me feel vulnerable.

Now I don't know the law regarding cash in mail, in the states. I know in Denmark, and at least some other other eu countries it's illegal to mail cash.

Edit: Seems like it's not illegal in the states, from what I can find online, but not recommended.

How about prepaid credit cards that can be used at atms.. Would be safer as if lost can be cancelled

US Mail

I found this info online regarding sending cash via USPS, however I'm unsure about the legality of gambling winnings and it is not specifically addressed in the links.

Excellent info, thank you. So it is NOT illegal to send cash it seems in the mail. even large sums. Interesting!!

Limit on money (cash) insurable through the mail

Money (currency / cash) that is sent through the mail can be insured with the following limits:

•Except for Registered Mail, the maximum indemnity for negotiable items (defined as instruments that can be converted to cash without resort to forgery), currency, or bullion, is $15.00
•For Registered Mail™ , cash can be insured up to $25,000. For amounts over $25,000, the full value must be declared but the maximum insured value is $25,000
When a claim is filed, money is replaced at the insured value as indicated above only:

1.After evidence of value is shown (if the actual value was less than the insured amount, then only the actual value is paid)
•Important: If you are sending a significant amount of cash, you need to verify with your local office what is considered valid evidence of value before mailing the item. You should also verify that it is packaged securely enough to protect a high value item from being harmed during regular mail processing.
2.After the claim process is complete
Please Note: Checks are not considered cash, and cannot be insured other than for document reconstruction expense.
From USPS Link:Link Removed ( Old/Invalid)

Please note that losing a check in the mail is NOT insurable...go figure! Give me cash anyday!

I would love to have cash or, better yet, a prepaid card.

Intertops tried a long while ago to have their own card but it never worked out for them. It would be so nice to have something like that. I don't care if I have to have one for each casino I played at. LOL!

I remember the old Payspark ewallet. They had a card and it was so nice.

When I last visited Vegas (2004 unfortunately :() I had a Neteller cash card which I just used at ATM's to draw my online casino winnings to use as spending money.

Those were the days, eh?
