Good casinos can continue to work in this business.

There are many good casinos but as you know quality doesnt guarante to making business for long years. They must have capasity of selling their quality, etc.

What do you think?

Which casinos will be still here 10 years later?

Ten years is a long time - the life of the industry to date, pretty much.

I would say that, all things being equal we will see the big, successful operations of today even more entrenched and prosperous...and I think that ultimately, and within this 10 year span the USA will come to the logical conclusion that regulating online gambling protects more U.S. players and generates more tax than banning it.

If or when that happens we'll see some spectacular and very experienced newcomers in the shape of major land brands that will have a hugely positive impact on the business....and result in a way more competitive field that could see even big companies failing if the management doesn't get customer relations right. That means serious improvements in both service and respect for players.

Regulation will become considerably more effective and meaningful than at present - led by jurisdictions like the UK that are serious about genuine and enforced standards of efficiency and conduct. Savvy players will prefer sites where they have the least chance of hassles, and recourse to a formal system if they do run into trouble.

Generally, that should make for safer gambling imo.

Consolidation will continue apace, and there will be far fewer of the already threatened small budget, unprofessional rats and mice operators around. I think there will be some thinning out among the software providers at the low end, too.

Technology - who would have guessed ten years ago that the technology would develop to the extent that it has, and online gambling and the games available will probably have even more ambience and possibilitities thanks to technological wizardry in the next decade - really something to look forward to.

My list for the future would include Trident, 888.com, Fortune Lounge, Party Gaming, Casino Action, Casino Rewards (yes, their CRM will have to sharpen up) Carmen Media, Empire Online (but they will have to do more to get with the program if they really want to be around) Leisure and Gaming, Jackpot Factory, Gaming Corp, VPL, Golden Palace (I hate to admit it, but they will be among the survivors) Ladbrokes and Will Hill, Kiwi, Palace Group, Sportingbet, Canbet, Main Street, IOG and Doleplex (yes, this group is now very significant in terms of acquisitions and ambitions)

There are plenty of other groups who will make it if they sort themselves out and accept that the player is the key to real success. For instance Grand Prive, which has some distance to go before it would get on to my list for the future.

There are many good and professional groups that are continually improving in all spheres as this industry matures and more experienced and professional managers are developed.

The future looks positive to me.

Nope - they wouldn't be on my list at all.

Dicky software, poor communicating and a management that is publicity-shy and doesn't take it's lumps when things go wrong (as we have seen with the recent attempts to screw players at Winners Casino downward by 50 percent on legitimately earned winnings)

I don't personally believe PurePoker or Futurebet will be around either - the player-unfriendly way they are handling the latest crisis in their lives is not a good indicator of a company that will make it in an even more competitive environment.

These are not the attributes of a winning company with a solid future. Just my opinion.

The key issue is profitability. Unless this industry can find some ways of denouncing the rogues and relay this to all new unwary players, there is still ample room for them to survive. Remember, their costs, both in terms of manpower resources and evasion of payments are much lower than those like 32 RED. They dont look to forge long-term relationships but rather track down the suckers (no offence intended) and drain money from them. You can take a cue from phynster's posts which give an insight into these.

Too much crap already from me but I think that apart from 32 RED)MG), the Sunny Group(RTG), Intercasino(Wagerlogic) and Inetbet(RTG), three others that would probably survive 10 years from are the Virtual Group, 1cnp.com and Windows. The latter is under new management but I think it has built up a huge client base, though not necessarily loyal, over the years. If handed well, I would think it will a force top be reckoned with in the years to come.

Of course my Casino Bar statement was just a joke but... maybe a serious one.
They have successfully been giving c*** to players for many years now but managed to maintain in business.

Great idea for a thread (I must say)! :)

And very smart post by "Jetset".

I would imagine that the majority of MG casinos will probably still be around in 10-years, and probably the majority (of a very small group of) Cryptologic casinos.

At the top, I would guess that places such as:

- Trident Lounge

- LadBrokes

- JackpOt FactOry

- 32Red

- RoxyPalace

- Intercasino/Ritz Club/Littlewoods/Sands/William Hill Casino

- Fortune Lounge

- Golden Palace (despite what wrong they do, they still have a huge following)

- The Sunny Group

...will all still be around in 10 years time. Although I do like Sci-Fi/BreakAway, and I can see that a place like an iNetBet is doing well enough at the moment, I'd only have enough confidence to put BoDog as a group as a possible "maybe" (for an RTG casino) of being around that long.

Unfortunately, if John Steed is still posting, most of us will be blind and won't be able to look back to see who was right :D

Anyway...to the point. I think the large popular brands, and the clever, friendly independent brands will still be here, but the smaller ones will have been bought out by the larger ones.

I can see we'll have two or three dominating "groups", and lots of the brands we see today under their umbrellas. I also think those "groups" will be household names, either from outside the industry, or maybe built from within.

I also think the B&M Casinos will have a very strong foothold in the online casino market. Sands, Venetian, MGM etc. I can see the live "dealer" technology being used to allow B&M Casinos to distribute their brands online, and bring all their casinos in Vegas, the UK and Macau (etc) together. I think land based slot jackpots and live tables will integrate into the online casino experience and change the way we see it now.

"Community" is the thing missing from online play, and the B&M's are very well placed to use their existing and new properties to bring that community feel to online gaming.

Hey johnstead your posts and threads are amongst the best, please continue to impress nad amuse your fellow CM members:thumbsup:

And on the subject of casinos that will still be here in 10 yrs time I say it will be those that get INDEPENdANT PROOF of dealing fair games. Within the next 10 years those caught cheating will be discovered IMHO.

Hmmm, lots of jabs sent my way this past weekend. Criticism or all in good fun? I'm beginning to wonder...

Tack on another vote for the jabs being all in good fun ... don't let it get you down, john. :D

Maybe we should start a poll to answer the question more effectively? ;)

Good observation, which resonates strongly with me. Allied to new technology developments this could be a very powerful medium. Mel Molnick has a fortune hanging on his patents here!

Hang in, John - you're a valuable contributor here as far as I am concerned, and I'm sure most of the *jabs* are in a spirit of fun.

If they're not (shrug) well it takes all types to make a message board and there will always be those who cavil. If they can't criticise the content, what else is there to moan about but the presentation :-)

Jetset--you were certainly feeling a bit generous when you wrote your list. :p

John Steed was probably a bit more on target, but I'm not convinced Sunny and Golden Palace will make it, should the big Vegas B&M's come on board.

Simmo is dead on with the technology aspect. Should the US wisen up and allow for regulation, we'll begin to see companies like IGT and Ballys, etc., licensing individual games to casinos, having a proufound effect on what players have to choose from. With this in mind, perhaps the question should be not which brands will still be here ten years from now, but which software providers will still be here? Would any of the current software providers be able to compete with a B&M casino entering online, using varied licensed games?

Seeing how things have changed so much over the relatively short period of time online gambling has been in existence, it's going to be exciting to see what happens in the future.

Short answer - yes, at the top end of the business I believe they would - there's a huge amount of unique experience and diversity resident in the leading provider companies and smart land game outfits would be looking at partnerships or acquisitions if they were smart.

It will be great to see this.

I like your posts, JS!
Always informative and up-to-date! And the tedious analytical work, that most people would be too lazy to do, is great, IMHO! :D

Hello Mr Steed Sir!!

I'm pretty sure that Ladbrokes will be (if they are not already) one of the biggest names in online gambling in the not too distant future.

(SIGH)

Good point. Now that they split from Hilton, they'll probably allow US players which should have a positive impact.

I'd go for InterCasino and 888.com.

Both have excellent reputation, they've been around for quite a long time - and they're here to stay, IMHO.

Especially Intercasino - remember, it's the casino with the best monthly bonus around ! !

In addition to those, ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if many of the State lotteries would expand into developing their own online platforms after all the hoopla going on about banning Internet gambling. Whether it be scratch-offs, Keno, or daily lottery numbers, players being able to buy it right online (I imagine would be BIG BUSINESS), considering the lines of ticket purchasers. But I would like to see all of the reputable online casino groups overcome this hurdle and grow successfully.

Agree with Cynthia and anticipate a growing presence of lotteries on the internet. Some countries already do this.

Ten years in the relatively short life of the internet is a long time and in 10 years the internet will just be leaving puberty. One presence in online casinos i foresee is that of Asia, probably China. China is already developing a new large scale Vegas of Asia (forgotten the name of this) in which the major Vegas casinos are investing heavily. China may like to censor its population when it comes to info, but i don't believe they will want to miss out on this major investment opportunity.

My other prediction is that casinos in 10 years will be catering more to impulsive consumer behavior in order to attract the public that otherwise may not be terribly interested in gambling per s. So, i foresee easier, quicker ways to get web wallets (or web wallets that are multi purpose), quick registrations and ability to quickly try out and play one game without having to go through the rigamarole of downloading huge casino files first. I also think that the whole industry will be well regulated by then, including the US :)

I think you mean Macau, which is part of China and casinos are sprouting up in the enclave. Singapore could have given them a run for the money but their terms have been too mean and a couple of players have already pulled out. It's a pity that they gave up this idea of building casinos in Hong Kong several years ago for fear of hurting Macau's economy. If it had come to fruition, I am sure that you will have a Vegas as good as can be. After all, the horse-racing industry in here is already first-class and this will also hold true for casinos.

Online Casinos of Future IMO : ................,Spin Palace and Ladbrokes.

Spin Palace, you gotta be kiddin me, not unless they change their management and casino manager changes her policy of NOT talking to her customers.

We all know from experience that there is a limit to what CS can do, some problems need to be raised with management, which is near impossible at Spin Palace!

Agreed  Ladbrokes will be around a long time, never had any problems here and CS is top.

Great point "paul02085"!

I could probably be a millionaire by now if I had only REALLY listened to what Ed McMahon had been repeatedly saying back in the early '80s (until recently). "Publishers Clearing House" was literally handing me millions of dollars, checks with my name on it, and all I did was laugh it off. Shame on me... :o

Well, I'm going to correct my mistakes, and start opening all of those 7,493 iWinners' emails I've been saving since '02.
