I am trying to get my limits removed from moneybookers and I have sent a certified copy of my passport but they want a resident permit. I live in Canada and have no idea what the equivalent of that would be. I figured the passport would work but apparently not. I have googled it and still don't know. Wondering if anyone knows what I could send them that would work??

Just a thought... is your Passport a Canadian Passport?

If the address in your MB account is Canada, but your passport says some other country, they may require additional proof you are a resident of Canada and legally living there. This is just speculation though .... what did Moneybookers say when you put this question to them?

for USA it is called a legal permanent residency card or aka green card

where are you a citizen of? if not canada, then they are looking for verification that you are there legally.

hope this helps

I was born in canada and lived here all my life. My passport is Canadian.......so I have no clue what they are asking me for.

Moneybookers told me if I can't supply a resident permit they need an explanation why I can't provide one.....that is why I was asking what it is.......I have never even heard of a resident permit before

Sounds like bullshit.

Whatever they might be called in different countries, they all have one function. This is to prove that a foreign national is living and working in the host country legally. It's a "green card" for the US, and no doubt something exists in Canada if, for example, a US citizen moves there to live and work, but retains their US nationality and passport.

Since you were born in Canada, and have a Canadian passport, Moneybookers are showing (again) their incompetence. They may well want something, but they are not asking for the right document.

Their concern is probably that US residents are getting around the rules by registering as "Canadian" using a "borrowed" address. Since you have supplied a Canadian passport, this would not be the case.

Something has clearly got them suspicious in your case, as this is not normal procedure for having limits raised. Passport, proof of address, and bank account verification are normally used. This is very similar to Neteller, and I have been through this standard procedure there long ago.

Perhaps they suspect you are operating the account on behalf of another person, such as a US player, and it is being used to work around UIGEA. They need a watertight cover for their asses in case this proves to be true. They can do this by showing they took every possible step in verifying the account before upgrading it.

Surely Moneybookers know what they want in the case of a Canadian born and resident citizen who has already supplied the passport - but there again, we know how inept they are:rolleyes:

Maybe they would accept a DNA sample instead:(

send a tax bill ,utility bill, other domestic receipt . and tell them if this isn't exactly what they want then to tell you exactly what goverment form they are looking for

About Being a Permanent Resident of Canada
A permanent resident is someone who has acquired permanent resident status by immigrating to Canada, but is not yet a Canadian citizen. Permanent residents have rights and privileges in Canada even though they remain citizens of their home country. In order to maintain permanent resident status, they must fulfill specified residency obligations.

A person in Canada temporarily, such as an international student or a temporary foreign worker, is not a permanent resident.

Refugees who are resettled from overseas arrive in Canada as permanent residents through the Government-Assisted Refugee Program or the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program. However, people who make refugee claims in Canada (either at a port of entry or a CIC office) are not permanent residents. In order to become one, these people must receive a positive decision on their refugee claim from the Immigration and Refugee Board. Then, they must apply for and be granted permanent resident status.

THIS is where this "resident permit" comes from. Having been granted the status, an immigrant is issued with a wallet sized card with their photo on it, much like any other ID card or the UK driving license.

As you were BORN in Canada, Moneybookers are (as I suspected) showing the incredible levels of the BULLSHIT they can come out with. Given that you have provided proof of full Citizenship with a Canadian passport, the request for a residency permit beggars belief, but this IS Moneybookers after all:(

Seems you just got royally Skrilled:p

You don't even need a passport. You only need a birth certificate if you were born in Canada. Being born in Canada automatically makes you a Canadian citizen.

There is no legal document that specifically allows you to reside in Canada if you're already a Canadian citizen.

Give them this phone number. 1-613-992-4211. Tell them to ask for a man named Stephen Harper. Maybe he can explain it better.

If you're a citizen of another country living in Canada, you need a PR (permanent resident) card, like someone said, it's like a green card in the states. I've never heard of such a thing for citizens though, that's weird.

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

I'd be curious to find out what they are asking for also. I just re-verified my account to become VIP and up limit, and all I sent was passport, utility bill and copy of cc used on account.

Never had them ask for that, in fact, all they've ever asked for was passport and utility.

What are they telling you when you inform them we don't have a resident card? Surely being a major institution they should be aware of each countries' legal forms of ID etc?

Frustrating....

Why would ANY country wastefully duplicate expensive systems? It's a Canadian Passport OR a permanent resident permit that proves permanent residency. As a full Canadian Citizen, the right to live and work permanently in Canada is automatic, and there is no need for an additional card to prove it.

Pity Neteller doesn't accept Canadians, otherwise it would be a simple matter of taking your custom elsewhere.

There are other eWallet services apart from this pair, so maybe one of these would be suitable.

It's also possible to approach a casino for assistance, making it clear that Moneybookers have made an insane request that severely limits the amount you can deposit to your favourite casino. Casinos have their own account managers at these eWallets, and would have a vested interest in pressuring Moneybookers to take a more sensible approach (more deposits and action). The best bet is to approach a casino where you have been an active player for quite some time, and have gained some kind of VIP status.

This approach has worked before in some cases where an eWallet has decided to make life difficult for a well known VIP player.

It may reveal what Moneybookers are REALLY asking for, and it may turn out they have not given the correct name to the item of documentation they are after.

That's so strange.... If you receive no clarification from MB... Anyone know if maybe Maxd could help the player? I mean... a native Canadian would have no need of a 'resident permit'. Honestly, sometimes communicating with CS is like talking to a brick wall. Sheesh...

It is possible for any Canadian citizen to obtain a citizenship card, but they are not cheap and serve no purpose for Canadian passport holder.

Moneybookers beg to differ. If the OP can get one, it comes down to whether the removal of limits is worth the price of one of these cards. Unfortunately, it could end up as money wasted, as there is no guarantee that Moneybookers will raise the limits rather than make an even more ridiculous request.

Maybe live with the limits for now, but look around for an alternative, or see if a casino manager can intervene on your behalf (it potentially means more money coming from you to them).

Although not quite the same issue, when Canbet made changes that stopped me from depositing directly with my Barclaycard, and I said that their "powered by Moneybookers" option required me to register my details and card with Moneybookers, and I had never been asked to register with a casino's processor before, and wasn't about to now, the VIP manager said they could have a word with their own Moneybookers account manager and have me made a Moneybookers VIP the minute I joined. This is how I KNOW that the possibilty exists for a casino to make representations to Moneybookers on behalf of a loyal player. I declined, and just went back to only using Neteller for my deposits. Not an option for a Canuck, so the OP doesn't have such a wide choice.

The Canadian Citizenship card doesn't have your address, or indicate that you currently reside in Canada. If Moneybookers is looking for proof of residency, it won't provide it.

It is government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth. But then again, so is that passport.

send the lunatics a fishing license :D and ask them were their passport is ,and a bunch of bull crap questions, there all getting dumb as a bag of hammers
