What exactly can affiliates see about people who sign up through them?

Hey,

I know there is a lot of affiliates that participate in this forum, which is a good thing. I am curious about this as details on myself and my gambling activity are private, but I understand some affiliate programs allow the affiliates access to data that other programs don't.

Quite often its an affiliate that gets me to sign up somewhere. Be it because I know I can trust a casino they are recommending (baptism by fire style), or maybe its because I am on that affiliate site a lot as they add value back to players (oddschecker, casinomeister, KasinoKing's sites etc). What exactly can they see about me after I sign up? My full name? My date of birth? My deposit history? My running total or wins/losses? My email address?. I have a buddy who used to do affiliating for poker sites years and years ago. He told me that for one group he could see almost nothing except for rake generated, but for another site he could see full names etc. In my opinion this is quite sensitive data, especially if it includes email addresses and date of birth with names.

I could find out myself by finding out from a casino who my affiliate is (and if they wont tell me nicely sending a SAR) and then sending a SAR to the affiliate but seems a bit of a long process to do that if I could find out here, cheers.

I too have questions about just exactly what is available as far as personal info.

Doing a search of my own e-mail..... I found full name and address up to and including

a map with the little stickpin showing my exact address.

Must say this does bother me ....... I really don't think that should be legal.

How can they do this?

I am not sure that this information was given out by an affiliate. I just looked up myself and found a very old address from 15 years ago and that was before I started online gambling. I agree having this info out there is very scary and I don't like it one bit. I too am wondering, how can this be legal?

As a small affiliate i can say that the programs i work with, are pretty low on info, all you see (and also all you really need to know) is on average the players chosen Casino-nickname, their I.P., and their deposits. Additional info on deposits is available, like wagering, % of Bonuses taken, stuff like that. No way an ethical affiliate program can share stuff like addres, banking info and whatnot. I bet there are some that do, either the people working in the affiliate department, or the casino owners themselves, but it's basically a crime to do so.

Now, as for you finding yourself on Google, that's a very different story, as that has nothing to do with affiliates in that sense: every app you install on you phone, that isn't from the provider itself, and to some extent also stuff from the providers themselves, can and will share certain info, to which you agree, when you click the umpteenth checkbox for Terms and Conditions on install.

Same on the internet, sites like FB and such, share or leak (regardless if intentional or not) info, have third party apps that also need user permission, that also will share or leak (same as above) info, and the list goes on. Living a modern digital life, most people still have no clue as to what they have actually all already agreed on so far, clicking hundreds of checkboxes online.

Back to affiliates, there's a much broader industry then the Casino one, and most of them have to do with microtransactions, which can be interpreted as follows: all those huge affiliates networks do, is gather and sell as much personal info as they can, and they do that by bulk email advertising/spam, hidden links on thousand's of sites (using i-frames and such, that can and will lead to redirect which have checkboxes ( you know those pages you have to click 10 times to leave the page, etc.) and those can leave hdden cookies that track user behavior..etc: here also, the list goes on.

And then again we don't know half of it.
I already posted on this topic in the past, and it is worrying. One of the main culprits nowadays seems to be the handy Google, which i myself happily use, but just think about how much access Google's databases already give, in terms of insight on user behavior, which can be traced back to email addresses and phone number, and even geolocation, purely because of the insane amount of people using their various applications, like drive, cloud, mail, translate, word, editor, videos, plus, and more...

Just to give you an idea: if you don't want all that, use a very private browser, and remove all sharing and suggestions, don't install third party apps, nd even use vpn and/or surf incognito. But this may be more of a task then you'ld like :p

It has always been wise to make more then one email address, one for each distinct purpose, like personal, business, and fun.
In doing so, it may be easier to determine where most of your spam comes from, as, although it deems to be impossible to determine/ get rid of all culprits, it does give you a lot more info on the matter. Then be very careful with passwords, and don't use password apps (or managers), just plain old creativity, and use pen and paper to store them safely somewhere. So NOT in your phone or PC

That's a start..

Thank you for the info incrediblestuff and for sharing with us players. Can I ask specifically if you ever get to see full name?

I've never seen any full name, but i've not even really checked the few sign up's i currently have:p
I know one of them, which is a personal friend, and he helped me make sense of it all, by signing up at pretty much each Casino on my site, so i could test if everything was working properly. I only ever saw his username, and someone else's.

Most affiliate programs aren't that "user-friendly" and you really have to dig to several pages, to get specific info. All most actively show is: monthly stats for number of (so not name's) new sign ups, number (so not names) of active depositors, deposit versus withdrawals, and that's pretty much it. The rest of the info you have to search through various tools inside the program. But as stated names are not included.

I can tell you i mostly only see zero's anyway. My site has been pretty inactive, but it still serves it purpose (informing fellow players of the safe way of online Gambling in a nutshell, with links to a handful of great Casino's, and links to the Casinomeister forums:)

I had 'big' plans for the site, and might still try them at a later stage, but i am actually focused elsewhere at the moment, and have been building up to that for the past 2 years.

.

I have been working with many different affiliate programs over the years and I have never seen any personal information about players through the affiliate systems.

No real names etc - they are usually just assigned a random number. In some cases, like incrediblestuff mentioned - the nickname may be visible (but in most programs not even the nickname is visible for me).

That being said. I only work with reputable programs.

Yes, I know it, my comment, was not about affiliates......

more about info that is just OUT THERE!

I have been an avid on line player for 17 years or so...... but I never, ever even thought

about checking to see how much of my personal info is out there for the taking.

(Just by my email addy)

I have managed to remove the ones I have found...... this will probably a long drawn

out process, but something I may visit periodically just to check again.

Thanks rainmaker, coming from reputable affiliates such as yourself and incrediblestuff that is reassuring to read.

Yes and fair enough, you couldn't recognise a player if they were just assigned a random number to them. I wonder what the less reputable sites share.

And the UK one me :D

Pretty much as above, can't see any personal information on the player. Some affiliate programs show the username which is useful as I'm planning on some cash-drops with a casino next month.

Little point in seeing any more as you have an affiliate manager who deals with all the issues.

What exactly can they see about me after I sign up?
My full name? No - never.
My date of birth? No - never.
My email address? No - never.

My deposit history? With just a few operators we can see deposit history against a players "Ref number" - but unless the player has given us that information, we have no idea who that player actually is.

My running total or wins/losses? Pretty much as above. Though nearly all operators give this info, even those that don't show deposits.

Hope that helps!

As others have mentioned there is very little information given about players, at most you get a specific ID about a player, but never any personal information. Most of the sites even pool the information together and won't state what specific players have played for.

This is for the most reputable programs at least. I have come across some programs that release more information than what is necessary. For example a esports betting site called esportsventure.com. In the back end you had access to the FULL information of all the players that had signed up under you. Including emails, name, address, date of birth and so on. A bit too much. This site went under quite quickly, so they aren't harming anyone I would guess.

Of any decent sites out there I have only found BetOnline to be a little weak at securing this info. You can find the names of people in the backend there. They seem to be a little lax in security on other stuff as well, like login passwords are visible, etc.

I work with a lot of programs and as has been said above you tend to see

user name
date joined, date of first deposit, amount of deposits, amount of bonuses taken, gross and net revenue, number of bets, total bets. Thats about the most you will ever see,

Except Genting bet who a few years ago sent me a spreadsheet with all my customers details on it including date of birth, name, address, and telephone numbers.

The information given to affiliates by affiliate program does vary from program to program. However it NEVER includes any information that could allow the affiliate to directly contact the player. Name, email address, physical address, phone number - none of it. It wouldn't make any sense for programs to disclose this information to anyone as the affiliate could then start building their own marketing list (which would constitute spam) and start contacting those players directly to sell them to other operators. No operator good, bad or ugly wants that to happen.

The stats you can see tend to relate to financial transactions and wagers. Most will give figures on the total deposits, bonuses received and normally gross/net revenue. Some will give usernames. Occasionally you might be able to see games played or the average wager per round.

Every single one of my programs shows NO customer details but occasionally a ref number. Most don't even show deposits. You could be Donald Trump for all I know, I don't even get the IP. P.S. If you ARE Donald Trump, could you lose a bit more please? :(
