Red Flush decided to send me an unsolicited text message.

I decided to close my account with them.

Here's how it went down:

You are now chatting with Georgios
Georgios: Welcome to the Casino . How may I assist you?
Me: Hi there
Me: I'd like to close my account immediately please.
Me: my details are XXXXX.
Georgios: can i have your user name please?
Me: XXXXXX
Me: and the reason for the closure is an unsolicited marketing text message.
Georgios: [my name] would be sad to see you leave the casino
Georgios: please note that in order to have an account closed in the casino we would require an email - the email address is
Georgios: [email protected]
Me: Why do you require an email? Can you lock the account?
Me: Hello?
Me: Hello? Are you able to answer my question please?

and, like so many CS chats, things seemed to go rather quiet after that...

I have emailed Redflush and if there's a rep here I would be delighted to hear that they've received my email and closed my account. It would also be good to know how they would treat someone who was closing it for a different reason. Would a hardcore gambling addict still have to send an email, for example? Tell me you'd lock their account!

Yes it's done for security else anyone could just go to chat pretending to be someone they aren't and ask for anyone's account to be closed. Submitting a request from your casino registered email address is common practice.

Like you I hate SMS and phone calls but with RF I just emailed them asking not to receive them and they stopped.

You can’t really expect a company that is in the business of making money to just say “sure, done” from a chat conversation and was you logged into your account when the conversation took place?

They know in many cases that some confusion may have taken place and a heat of the moment reaction that we are all prone to at times can be tempered with a period of contemplation.

Opting out of marketing emails and short messaging services from a business is not a perfect science and it does go wrong, obviously they need a contact number and this is within a database that is coupled with a mass marketing tool that they would have in place. It does go wrong.

Companies have policies and procedures that require a tick box like form in order to finalise issues and emails leave an audit trial that satisfies these requirements.

Just send a simple email with the reasons why you want to close the account and wait for a reply that will most probably try to ease your concerns and set in place how you are handled in the future.

Then you can decide whether you want to continue with the account or not, do not accept any free chips etc. as this would dilute your initial objection.

This company really do have problems closing accounts. I really had to fight to get my accounts closed both there and La Vida. I was even promised by one of the reps here that it was closed, and still it was open.
It was a long time ago so I don't care about that now. I will never go back, but what's bothering me is that they still are sending out emails. Yes, from the casino, trying to make me come back.
That doesn't make me like them more.

That's still putting it lightly. They send me some unsolicited airmail with cd's of the Playboy game in the letter, which led to a discussion with my wife I'm rather ashamed of. I immediately requested them to close my account, but changed my mind since I didn't want to waste my time with it. At least they claim they will stop bothering me through sending me airmail.

Yeah I got the Playboy promo pamphlet through the mail from Red Flush as well.

Now TBH I don't mind 'snail mail' spam, it's easy enough to file it straight into the rubbish bin should I choose to do so, and when I'm given tick boxes to choose what sorts of promos I receive (from anywhere, not just casinos) I'll leave email and snail mail ticked, it's anything to do with unsolicited phone calls or texts that I absolutely will not tolerate.

(If I find that emails cross the line from promos to spam I'll just tell gmail to flag them as spam, so I never see them again.)

What I did have a bit of a problem with on the Red Flush mailer is the obvious Playboy bunny logos on the envelope itself, which basically makes it look like I'm having something porn-related delivered to the house. Didn't cause any issues with Mrs Chopley who is (a) Quite used to casino promos being delivered and (b) Had already seen me lobbing loads of spins through the Playboy slot in free play mode at 32Red, so knew it wasn't actually porn being delivered to the house.

I can definitely see it causing problems for some folks though, it could almost be like a double-whammy of awkwardness. 'WHY ARE YOU GETTING PLAYBOY PORN THROUGH THE MAIL, SHOW IT TO ME NOW!' - followed by - 'ONLINE CASINOS! YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE GAMBLING AGAIN!'

Also, in any Red Flush/La Vida complaint thread I'll always refer folks back to this, looks like they haven't changed their ways much.

lol funny, I was outside the other day when the mailman came and handed over the LaVida Playboy envelope, he had this speculative look on his face when he handed it to me and I never even realized why. So now I know, either a) he's wondering if I may be a lesbian, or b) I sent in my pictures.

Either way it's pretty funny. :p

The person who thought it was a good idea to put the Playboy logo on the outside of an envelope is an idiot.

I got the same Game CD and Letter- A4 sized with the playboy logo on the front- well embarrassing it were. Who on earth thought that were a good idea needs to go take their medication and just for a second think how many people ended up having a serious conversation on the matter!

In response to the OP what were the text message? how did it offend you so much to make you close your account? I received a text message from them this weekend and all it said was sign-up to the mobile casino and get £10.

It doesn't appear to me as if the "Rep Friendly" prefix really applies or is serving a purpose here. Removed it. If that ruins anyone's afternoon please feel free to PM me the details.

The problem with this one is that the thinking was too close to the business. Any player of Microgaming probably knew that the big news of the summer was the deal to get a Playboy bunny themed slot, but the problem is that outside of the player community, the Playboy logo means something different. Playboy is known mostly for it's clubs and "bunnies", so if such an envelope arrives in a household where not all know that one among them is a player, they will conclude that someone is frequenting such clubs behind one's back, and is such a regular that they have just been sent a special offer in the post.

It would have been better to use an outer plain envelope with the themed one inside, so long as it's not BROWN, as every good wife knows, the first thing you do when the husband gets an unidentifiable brown envelope in the post is to steam it open, look for whatever illicit contents they don't want to be seen receiving, and prepare to confront him when he gets back.

It's fine for me, no wife to lecture me, and my first thoughts upon seeing the logo was "Ahh, a bonus offer for that new slot coming out;) "

My gripe was that one of the codes didn't work, and the mailer didn't indicate why this might be the case, but I assumed that only one could be used, and upon said use, it would invalidate the one for the sister casino. My assumption proved correct, as one did work at La Vida, and I decided to try the other to be sure, and it came up as "invalid" in the lobby.

I now regret chucking the envelope away, as this thread has made me see that I could have teased my profligate niece with it by deliberately leaving it lying around, glued shut, and having her suffer unsatisfied curiosity as to what it contained, knowing that if she checked, I would have her busted:D

I will answer this one with a quote VWM:

Her revenge will be way worse... :p

I have to say that made me laugh until I cried, thank you for making my day! such practical advice :D

She's had it already. I've got her kids for 10 days starting Friday:(

(Now here's your chance to clobber the Slotsmeister whilst I am distracted, if you dare:p)

It's me that needs to get her back.

I do manage it, the 4 year old can now name and identify Cumulus and Stratus, and knows how to play HipHopOPotamus:icon_twis

It was brilliant.

She got back home, and the greeting was like this:-

Mummy look

What?

Stratus (excited)

I didn't know the clouds had names:confused:

WELL YOU DO NOW:icon_evil

I will be covering the middle layers of the troposphere with her this visit;)

I also return her in "old fashioned" clothing whenever possible, saying it was in fashion when I was younger - in the 1960's and 70's:p

Damn good job she has no idea about Playboy, to her it was just "an envelope with a bunny rabbit on it".

I also had the worrying experience of her suddenly becoming 14 for the day instead of 4 when she came to me and said "I need a webcam":eek2:

If I were going to close an account , I would want the casino to ask for an email from me with a security question in some form or another , just for the fact that a spouse or friend might want to take it upon themselves and close said gaming accounts , thinking they were helping in their own way , it has been done I would dare say in the past and give kuddos to those casinos that use this as a security measure.

I would be pissed though if I did this and continued to get snail mail or email from them let alone phone calls , that is when I would be on CM typing and bitching at the top of my lungs, this is when a casino crosses the line to me.

You're not alone in your marketing incompetence.
In the past we have had similar or worse disasters.

1972. Bird's Eye 'Cod Pieces' (Mini battered pieces of cod for kids.)
1990's Ratner's Jewellery chain wiped out in the UK when Gerald Ratner, in response to low-priced gold earrings, stated: "People ask how we can sell a pair of earrings for less than a Marks and Spencer sandwich - because they're total crap".
2002. Nike bring out a 'Zyklon' range of trainers, not realizing ZyklonB was the chemical dropped in water to create cyanide gas in the extermination chambers by the Nazis.

This sort of thing usually derives from employing immature graduates with little general knowledge or experience of life, who are fast-tracked into positions they are ill-equipped for.

That's a great point where a family member could close an account, I never thought about that possibility.

Credit where it's due...

All,

RF got on this fast and closed my account as requested. The rep on here has also been responsive. Well done, and thank you Rithen.

I have suggested that they offer the choice of how someone likes to be contacted for marketing purposes in the future.

The text they sent me was a free chip offer I think - that wasn't my problem with it. I just don't like being sent unsolicited texts or being called.

Thanks for all your comments on this players and playettes. Good luck all:thumbsup:

This was funny, sending promos in the mail with a playboy symbol on the mailer. All I needed now was for my male enhancement pills to show up next.

I closed my Red Flush account around a month ago as i was sick of recieving their crappy offers in my inbox 15 times a month. When they wrote to me confirming it was closed they were nice enough to tell me about their new slots, and that it was bonus offers waiting for me in their lobby. I wonder if they also offer this to players closing their account because of gambling problems.

This should never happen, no matter how new the CS agent dealing with the matter.

Their offers are indeed crap when compared to the competition. It's usually between 15% and 20%, and this is what they mean when they say there is a bonus awaiting for you in the lobby. They once offered something better, ranging from 20% to 30%, even that not particularly good when compared to others. They also offered 100 free spins on the first £200 twice a week, with further deposits then attracting 20% or even 25% at the end of the month. The 100 free spins for £200 was equivalent to a 50% bonus on the £200 deposit, so pretty good.

Things got worse after a review and revamp of their bonus and VIP programs.

Microgaming casinos do tend to offer lower percentage boni than the likes of RTG. Microgaming boni are cashable, and usually have no max cashout restrictions.

They (Red Flush) have at least resisted the move to 48 hour+ pending (so far), for which we have to be thankful.

Why should we be thankful?

A 48 hour pending period is taking the piss and entirely unnecessary, and there are plenty of casinos out there to choose from which make that quite obvious.

We shouldn't have to be, but it's the way things are going. It's better than 10 days pending, so I still play at 48 hour pending casinos.

Even 32Red has begun to drift in this wrong direction with it's removal of weekend payouts and limiting weekday payouts to the hours of 9am to 4pm.

Yep...its the way things are going.

I mean, guts and betat have stretched right out to about 2 hours now, whilst nordicbet is around 4 hours. Redbet have blown right out 5 minutes, and inetbet continue to struggle at around 6 hours.

I just don't know why things are going so BAD with pending periods right now

It seems to be that whilst these new entrants pay fast, the old guard seem to think they don't have to compete on payout times, and have cut their processing hours and extended their pending periods.

Why does a casino like 32Red feel that these newcomers entering with even faster payments times can be countered by extending their pending times and doing away with weekend payouts altogether.

It's possible that they take the view that it won't last, and that after the newcomers have a solid player base, they will start the drift away to payouts in 2 hours or less towards something like 24 hours and no weekends.
