I am pretty sure Finn will miraculously return for a brief period when they schedule the battle only to raise our hopes that he won't vanish yet again before we can see him turning his backside towards us and running off into the distance!

If it let you register for a battle, then you can play it, no matter the XP level at the point when the battle starts. The XP test is done at registration.
