Online casinos, seem to want Verification these days, of who you are... example text from the chance hill review

Player protection and verification: You are able to upload your KYC documents at your earliest convenience – they will require a government issues ID, proof of residence

The only problem with this :-......

In the UK there is no goverment issued ID.

76% of adults in the UK have a passport. (% out of date unknown)

Around 63% of adults in the UK have a driving licence. (but of these, a large percentage will be paper licences only.. no picture).

So how are you supposed to 'verify' with a casino, if you have neither of these two ?

Some accept a birth certificate, not sure if we have national ID cards here, but they are government issued and should be approved.
The KYC is obscene I agree, but at the end of the day the casino also has the right to defend itself from fraud, that I understand.
Speak to customer service or a rep on here as they are now accredited and I'm sure they will try there upmost to help.

I've made a few threads about this regarding a couple of Casino's in the past.

Eventually I was forced to obtain a National Electoral ID card (For voting in N Ireland) because BGO would not budge on my withdrawal until I obtained some form of photo ID. They were very stubborn and I waited over a month or so.

They don't seem to understand (wanker casinos) that not everyone can afford the luxury to Travel or Drive even if they had the intention of wanting to.

I had to close my Paddy Power account because even after obtaining my photo ID they STILL insisted that it had to be a Drivers License or Passport...I had to contact the rep here and fight tooth and nail to get my money from them.

Speaking of which, sooner or later your tooth and nails are going to be required to pass verification measures

Edit: In case I run into any problems in the future I keep this link handy and direct them to 6.57 (Just below half way). Have had to do it twice and explain to them that according to the UKGC my photo ID is valid. It states accepted documents for verification.

Old / Expired Link

Correct!.. it is obscene the lengths some go to in order to verify you.
I've actually emailed a certain casino once as the requests for pictures next to my passport etc... not accepting a tax payment letter from hmrc, and just silly kyc, i actually said to them, 'would it be easier if I fly me and my family to Malta, come to our office and we can all have a coffee, we can meet each other and you can ask all the questions you like'
In Fairness the email back was humourous, 'although we would love you to come here with your family and meet us all, just The kyc we require is sufficient'

Haha, Excellent.

The main thing wrong with the verification process is there is no damned need for any casino to ask someone to upload any documents at all unless they have doubts about the person.

The whole verification process can be done electronically by all the casinos.

I stay in UK and none of the main UK sites have ever asked for ID. 32RED, william hill, ladbrokes ,coral ,paddy power etc all verify you with no need for documents.

You read all the foreign based casinos saying by law they have to verify you. True but nowhere does it say they have to ask for shit loads of documents to be sent. All they have to do is verify you one way or another so they should be able to do it in the same way as the bookmakers sites do.

Also you regularly change your bank cards at ladbrokes and william hill. They dont say you need to send a scan of your new bank card. If it was a legal requirement they would be first to do it.

I've been a member of William hill and ladbrokes years.
I've had withdraws in the 1000's before.
Been paid within 3 days every single time, not a question asked, no kyc given at all.
Granted them larger withdrawals are horse based wins, just wondering if i was to win say 5k on doa would they then ask for kyc.

The answer is no. Horse racing and casino are same rules. You were verified when you signed up without you knowing.

The bookies only ask for ID if they have any problems verifying you .

Lol take ladbrokes ive had a few over £2k withdrawals from casino over the years and never get asked to kyc

This is purely online, not land based. I was depositing and withdrawing literally thousands at work offshore, never had a issue once.
It was always paid within 3 working days, the odd times 2.
Why are 'slot focused' casinos not the same?.
Is it licensing? Where they are based? I guess it must be.
If ladbrokes or William hill for example had the catalogue of games like videoslots or casumo then I would see no need at all in playing in a slots based casino.

William Hill is improving all the time. Find they've got a great selection of slots now. Took them long enough to realise how popular DOA is tho and add it like they did not long ago.

If only they would add CFTBL like i asked them tolol and i would be real happy.

If they had a better choice of games, and more suffient live help it would be a no brainier for me personally.
They pay, and that's upmost to me, but it's nice to have a good selection of slots, and chat who care. Really if William hill looked into this they would expand there business massively. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how to run a slot based casino.
I also had a decent experience after there bonus was wrong a few months back, which I posted here. Maybe it's improving. I hope so, as I believe there is the option of collecting winnings in shop also?.. correct me should I be wrong.

Exactly..thats the crazy thing.. i have accounts with 3/4 other casinos... none of them have requested anything. i deposit, win, withdraw etc. for a long time.

the ones requesting a passport, seem to be at a commercial disadvantage to me...................

It is annoying, never had a problem with things being requested from uk casinos like 32red but any others i have been asked for all sorts including a photo of me holding my photo i.d. As long as they pay out i will jump through the hoops but some of it seems more like delaying tactics than a requirement.

It pisses me off as its perfectly ok to accept money but do not pay out? We will take your fraudulent cash. we not bothered where it come from or who you are untill its time for them to pay out.

I understand they want I.D due to fraud and and now the gambling commission involvement but at least do not take my cash if your not going to pay it back as easy as you took it. Any casino doing this should be auto fined, Ask for I.D up front. no because casino would lose players, but if they decide to take cash without I.D than pay back the fucking cash cash without I.D

sprintee,it should imo say on Bonus T&C that "ID may be required to withdraw "

to the OP:stop gambling and maybe get one?

I have felt this way a long time mate.
It's wrong and needs a simple solution, it's actually easier getting a mortgage than being verified at some casinos.

I tell you what getting a mortgage cannot be much harder, I have uploadded docs to a number of sites and rarly been rejected, Once had to resend a good few times but going by a few threads that was the norm with that site.

Another time the picture was on the wonk. I ask them are you for real, So I told them to bend there neck abit and it will be straight

Most sites have not even got a scooby doo what there doing when it comes to ID any way and others are spot on and sort it over live chat which is another joke. sites haven't a clue about I.D yet on other sites live chat does not know a roulette table from a slot machine yet sort I.D out there and than

William hill and ladbrokes and the real big guns I believe do it via electoral role. As I said in a previous post, I've won thousands and deposited thousands with these, no kyc required, and paid in less than 3 days.
Not one issue I had ever.
Also betway.
Why slot based casinos can't do this I don't really understand, I'm not fully up with licensing etc.. so probably isn't as easy as I think and like it to be.
And yes definitely most CS havnt a clue, but that isnt there fault, it's down to the 'training' the casino gave them in the first place.

It would help if the people who write these regulations talked to people in the real world and other government departments. The regulations want paper documents, yet both government and businesses are on a drive to push the "paperless society" as the preferred norm.
The regulations also much prefer photo documents, but the government is reluctant to issue one that ANYONE can have. You can't have a photo driving licence if you can't drive, not even if you just want it for use as a photo ID and have no intention of driving.

The regulations are so complex that casinos are bound to stumble and some customers are going to get ripped off. The only recourse for some may be to use the courts to determine whether they are who they say they are, and thus get an order for the casino to pay up, which of course also gets the casino off the hook as the court has assumed responsibility for the decisions relating to the prevention of money laundering.

Interestingly, the Financial Ombudsman has stated that where a bank customer and bank are in deadlock over KYC and AML, the only recourse for the customer if the bank won't budge is to go to court for recovery of their funds.

One possible consequence of this for online casinos is an increase in the number of players who have to use the courts to pass KYC because the casinos are too scared to be flexible enough to cater for real world situations such as players who don't drive and who never take foreign holidays.

These problems are also leaving significant numbers of adults unable to obtain bank accounts, notably the young and the elderly.

I might be wrong, but i think that part is related to banks obligation ( and right ) due to not providing any proof to the customer ( or third party) . especially.
In case we are dealing with a terrorist or someone who is furthermore involved in AML scenario (financial) within a terrorist group.

After reading OP's post, I'm surprised, though.
Normally, a passport should be enough to get
verified.

That's a great post that with many valid points.
I must admit the manner in which you post is top notch, inciteful also helpful.
Kudos for that.
