Thats what pretty much happened with me, although a bit later than you.
Roger Cook was doing an investigation into pirate videos. I was involved with that and the person I was with was selling them on markets. I had been dropping some stock off when Roger started running down the street with cameras and stuff, it was automatic just to run, even though, in hindsight, we should have just stood there and told him to fuck off. Considering the street we were in he probably wouldn't have made it out being able to run quite so fast lol.
Just to clarify, I wasn't involved in the heavy stuff the people I associated were, I did know what was happening though. I was arrested by armed police from the National Crime Squad more than once due to just being a known associate with them, armed robberies, drugs, fake money, violence etc was not involving me in any way. NCS were complete bastards, think Gene Hunt on steriods.
It can come in handy though. Few years ago my daughter had some problems with her neighbour, which got to the point when I was genuinely going to make him disappear. Instead, when the police were there one night telling her yet again, there was nothing they could do, I just sat there and calmly told him, I was sick of the neighbour threatening my daughter and either the copper did something about it within 24 hours, or I would get involved and he wouldn't be a problem any more. Copper got funny with me, so gave him my name, date of birth, told him to go back to the station, speak to some of the older CID officers, and run a PNC check on me, see who my known associates were.
The next morning the neighbour moved with a police escort. He was told his life was in danger if he stayed there any longer. I didn't make any threats or anything, so wasn't anything they could do to me, but bet the arsehole who thought it was clever to bully a young lass and her child regrets his choices now.
