1. the Sestak issue: seems to me that this sounds an awful lot like what the former Governor of Illinois was alledged to have done. He was accused of attempting to give or receive favors for Obamas Senate seat and was subsequently impeached prior to due process. What makes this any different if in fact Sestak was offered a high level position to withdrawal from the Penn. senate primaries? Nothing except that since it is at the Federal and not the State level it is going to be difficult to file charges when the Administration refuses to release all information. Sestak as repeatedly stated that he was approached by Clinton and that he also recieved a phone call from Obama. There is enough evidence of potential illegal conduct to subpoena those involved. Will that happen when both houses controlled by Democrats and the Obama is a Democrat? I really doubt it, but doesn't mean that if at a later date the majority shifts they may do so.
2. Oil Spill. "DAY ONE" was the Administrations Message once they were uinder fire.
Regardless if the Fed Gov could stop the leak they surely could have responded to the involved Govenors requests for equipment and manpower to protect the shores.
As far as I can see they have not even started to put out barriers to protect the other gulf coast states that may soon find the oil moving their way. Preventing further oil from destroying the Gulf Coast should be the Federal Governments top priority,(since they admit they have no expertise regarding stopping the spill), but once again Big Government is unable to effeciently manage.
Just how prepared are we for disasters in general. Cutting the budget for the equipment, weapons and manpower necessary to protect our borders is negligent. Perhaps Obama has not read the Constitution(oh, forgot he is a constitutional scholar), especially the part that deals with biggest responsibility that the Federal Government is charged with; protecting the Country and its Citizens.
Incompetence, lies and runarounds by the Obama Administration. If Bush had done this the Media would have been all over him. Goes to show how biased the Media really is. Since I live in Texas I am quite familar with the Katrina demise. I blame the Govenor at the time and the National Guard for failures that occurred in the first 4 days. Not to mention the Mayor of New Orleans who did not impliment the recommendations for a new emergency plan following a previous destructive Hurricaine.
Homeland Security was also to blame and in my opinion this department has failed to do the job they were created to do. They dropped the ball with Katrina and now with protecting our shores from the oil spill.
A report written by a committee of Republicans, takes Chertoff to task for waiting until two days after the storm hit to activate a national response plan and for appointing Michael Brown, then-director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to lead the federal response effort despite Brown not being trained to take on that role. Following Katrina this was what was recommended by DHS:
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff laid out changes he says need to be made before the 2006 hurricane season:
• Incident command centers for FEMA and DHS will be integrated so that they will have access to the same information simultaneously and won't have to pass information back and forth, which Chertoff said "makes no sense."
• Improve FEMA's logistics capability, which Chertoff called "woefully inadequate."
• Contractors supplying relief supplies will have to have systems in place to track shipments.
• Systems for managing claims for people affected by disasters will be upgraded and new financial management tools put into place.
• Local officials will be allowed to hire their own firms to remove debris after a storm rather than going through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which local officials have complained is more expensive and less efficient
Too bad the current Administration is not following a few of these recommendations.
Note Bush was attacked for failing to provide adequate response until TWO DAYS after the storm.
Obama has failed to provide Gulf Coast Govenors and more specifically, Louisiana's Governor with the booms, manpower and approval of building barrier reefs that were requested repeatedly after the spill occurred.
People it has been one month and the equipment and supplies and manpower has still not been made available. Red tape is still delaying the building of sand barriers and noone has directed attention to protecting the other Gulf Coast States.
