I've just gotten back from a two week break and nearly finished "Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History" by S. C. Gwynne - a pretty absorbing book about the Comanche empire of 1600s until the late 1800s. It's a good read if you are into Indian raids and the Western Expansion via Texas. Lots of blood and gore, gunfights and brutal hardships here. Amazing what these people went through.

I've also just finished Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" No gore here - just lots of anecdotal science facts :D

Just a little bit of worthless information for you, Meister.

Little town where I grew up is about 40 miles from the place where Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped by the Apaches. The fort still stands and we made regular summer visits there when I was kid. I always found it kinda eerie there because I could visualize the happenings there. The Fort is really out in the middle of nowhere and the actual spring (don't know if they mentioned that in the book) is still to be found.
