Summer on the horizon

...well, unless you're an Aussie/N.Zealander

Any big summer plans, trips, goals?
We're unfortunately going to have to put off a house purchase for a year, so trying to make the backyard at least comfortable. Half the size I'm used to, but feeders out and light and a gazebo, a smidge of garden and if a casino win, build a deck - but being a rental, a portable one; no point sinking big funds into a place isnt mine (made that mistake before with flooring, decking, fencing for owners to turn around and sell it, eesh)

Same goal of summers past - grab a nice hot tub, but a plug and play as I'm not going to wrap a deck around it or changing the outlets, but still need 3 and a half K - old man I am with a broken back it's for comfort more than fun

Goal will be be focusing on new place for NEXT summer now (2020) - big priorities are about yardage for dogs moreso than interior space; the fat bastard needs some roaming room :p

You?

It's that time of year again for my cancer scans. Lungs, bones and Liver. I cant wait until I'm out of the woods. 3 more years! But this time, I'm going to hold off until mid August so I can have a stress free summer. My plans are as follows. Montreal at the end of June, gardening, BBQing, hanging out in July. August going to New Brunswick to see one of my best friends. Will do some fishing and MAYBE some hunting. Depends on my arm strength. I tried using a bow last fall and I couldn't pull it at all :( That's about it. Maybe some Festivals too. There is quite a few good ones this summer :)

sounds much more exciting than mine - dogs restrict any away plans unless they come but rather hoping to shed weight and sit beach side mostly :) I've nearly always lived on a beach and never utilize it
a few BBQS and if lucky, a camping trip or 2 (with the one hound)

I really hope I have a chance to have a proper summer holiday this year. Would love for once to just relax for 4-6 weeks instead of working and having a few days off here and there.

The only thing I have planned is to see Metallica in the middle of July. A great excuse to drink all day and enjoy some nice tunes in the summer breeze. Beer and sun, enough to make me happy.

We have a kick ass festival coming here this summer. I will post the band list tomorrow. If it werent for the fact my body wouldnt survive a whole night, let alone all weekend of it. I'd go, because there will be some amazing bands!

You know Canadian women like their Canadian men beefy, right?

I quite dislike summer to be honest. Days that are too hot, nights that are too stuffy. Last year was horrendous in the UK. The grass turned brown and it didn't rain for weeks.

Much prefer the cold dark nights and snow...though we don't even get much of that in the UK!

I think I/we just appreciate it because the cold, dark nights and snow you prefer we get for more than half the year :D Too many minus 40s and you pray for that sunny day

but to be fair, come summer we bitch just as much :laugh:

Yes we do, because we go from 7 months? of darkness and frigid temps to plus 40.

If it's anything like last Summer then 'no thanks'

Was nice for the first two days, then became penance. It was unrelenting and stifling, something we're simply not used to. Hopefully things will return to normal with our 6-day annual specials :D

I'm going to smoke pot on my front porch. I will turn 60 years old in less than a month. Do not expect to have surgery before then, although I will given a chance. I do have another appointment at Oncology in a month, where I will have a day surgery that will leave me miserable for a few days I expect. Truly hoping for long-awaited vascular surgery, and the ability to walk as far as my backyard, and go get groceries. Oncology feels, as do I, that this vascular surgery is more pressing for my health, and that regular biopsies and a Mirena can slow, any cellular changes, at least long enough to get the vascular surgery that should restore some mobility. Going to try and put together a bunch of freezer meals, as I don't see an easy summer ahead of me, but one that brings great hope for improvement.

It was like a dustbowl here until late July/August time when it all started to break down.

This has been the dullest, wettest and worst June I can remember. 19 days in and rain has fallen in 17 of them, temperatures low and the relentless piss may stop over the next few days. Not even sun between the showers.

Spot the difference!

In Toronto we have had a terrible spring as well. Way below normal temperatures for this time of year. I filled the pool, but nobody has gone it yet and its almost July!!!
We head up to the Kawartha's and rent a cottage every summer, can't wait for that. I love the heat, I hope we get some soon!
