Source of Wealth Requests - What is reasonable?

I've been hit with SoW at several Casinos in the past and always provided what has been requested satisfactorily (Casumo aside, on the fourth SoW request they rejected my Pay Statement as it didn't have the exact 'bespoke' information written as they wanted even though they'd excepted it previously) but have come unstuck at Pokerstars.

I've provided a Pay Statement and the corresponding date period Bank Statement as usual, with bank statement reduced to just the front cover (Name, Address, Bank Account details etc) and the page showing my salary being paid. The transactions that show on the 2 pages provided (Mortgage payment, General shopping etc) I have redacted, cos why does the casino need to see this?
Apparently they cannot accept the bank statement unless they see it in FULL with all transactions displayed. I have nothing to hide and would be quite willing to do this but why should I, as surely what they are checking for is; I get paid and it goes into a legitimate bank account. Everything else is irrelevant. No other casino has requested this level of information and always been satisfied seeing a salary going into the account.

So my question is:

what is the UKGC guidance to casinos on SoW?
Is there something I could quote back to them?
What is a reasonable request, surely their remit is to only establish you have a legitimate income source?

The crazy thing is they are now requesting savings account documents (so they can better assess what other funds I have to play with, I don't even have a savings account and if I did wouldn't consider it gambling funds) on the basis of a redacted transaction where I transferred £200 (I left the amounts and types of transactions unredacted) to the missus for shopping.

Is this all too intrusive? and whats the point in requesting information that could easily be modified, I used Adobe Acrobat Pro to redact the transactions and could easily fully forge the whole statement to give myself a Million pound salary and a bloated bank account.

Instead I have been honest, showed £3000 monthly salary going into my account, that matches my monthly pay statement, to fund a fairly low amount of deposits over the 3 months I played at Pokerstars. How do they need to know more ins and outs? Ironically none of the deposit were made from the bank account, they were all through PayPal, which they haven't requested any information on.

Yep they are way too intrusive, the only thing they should be asking for is proof of income, nothing else is anything to do with them.
I dont know know what the UKGC stipulates regarding information but if they start asking me for personal expendeture
details outside casino deposits they can stuff their casino.
Dunno what makes casinos such special case, i can go out today and buy a brand
new car with no questions asked by the bank or dealer but cant deposit a few hundred pounds in a casino without risking
questions being asked or slapped with another SOW.

It’s too intrusive full stop.

You verify your identify. Fine.

I do think the only thing that should matter is your pay slip / tax return to work out your salary and how much is reasonable. I.e. if you earn £50k a year then £250 a month is fine.

Nothing else should not be relevant IMO.

I would rephrase that part to: To establish the funds used to gamble are clean from money laundering or organized crime.

Thanks @L&L-Jan that makes sense, its crazy, this has been almost a month with Pokerstars (each email takes 5 days response from them) yet still want more, yet during this bank holiday weekend, RaceCasino managed sort the same in 2 days.

You can, again, blame the UKGC for the redacted parts not being accepted

Casumo Hit with £6m Fine by the Gambling Commission

  • Bank statements produced were not assessed appropriately. Examples include incomplete bank statements which only showed credits into the customer’s account. The balance figures on a customer’s bank statement had been redacted.
Aah, so guess they are following the guidance, brilliant, now they can look through 12 pages of Costa Coffee transactions, if I decide to continue playing with them, which is unlikely due to their unbelievably slow response time to customer issues. For such a large outfit you'd think they'd have the resources to deal with verification more efficiently.

I've only persevered with the requests as the tournaments they run daily are fun. Its mental that a decent salary (and proof of such) isn't enough to deposit the odd £20-30 each week for an hours worth of entertainment without the need to provide blood samples and my whole spending lifestyle.

Exactly, I re-mortgaged two months ago with very little financial information provided, at least way less than whats being requested here, yet can't be trusted to manage and budget my own money by an online casino.

Surely the UKGC can't be expecting the casinos to review all your incomings/outgoings and spending habits before setting a deposit limit, and who are they employing who is suitably qualified to decide what is reasonable once they've scoured my monthly spending?

Given some casino's struggle to answer mind boggling questions such as 'I can't find the free spins you said were in my account' without repeating yourself like a parrot, possibly not :p
