I have played at one of the top rated casinos now for almost nine years. Other than a few blips (on their end), I have stayed with them. I do not win that often, and they are richer by thousands from me. But such is gambling.

Two days ago I received an e-mail from them asking that I send in a copy of my driver's license and utility bill. Huh?

I send back a reply asking why they would need this at all. I am a VIP player, none of my information has changed at all. They have my credit card number; my eco-card number; my address and phone number. Is that not enough for a long time player?

No. Apparently not. It is the rules from E-Cogra. Oh I see.

I would certainly appreciate it if someone here can explain to me why it is necessary for them to have a copy of my driving license. In what way does that help them? I am very leery about sending anything like this through cyber space. They tell me it is secure...well I dont know about that.

If I were a new player - ok then maybe. But one of their best players...I do not like it one bit. (And they themselves told me I was one of their most loyal and best players).

If you've with them 9 years, one would assume you trust them to a fair extent, so what's the issue with sending some ID?

Most casinos request updated ID from time to time, and ecogra does require them to have current ID on file. It is not related to how they rate you as a customer.

A drivers licence shows your details and a photo and is the best form of ID.

Just send what they need and you'll have no issues. I don't know why you're taking it personally to be honest. Anyone who's been around 9 years would know this is par for the course.

May I ask which casino you are referring to Crystal?

I do think it quite odd that they are asking for personal info at this time since you have been playing there for quite some time, as you have said:confused:

I take it that you have previously withdrawn money from this particular casino?

I have had a few casinos ask me for my id a second time after I have been approved and everything the first time months prior. It is a "Know Your Cutomer" thing. It's really not a big deal, most casinos ask for a photo ID to process withdrawls anyway.

It is Seven Sultans Casino. And, yes, I do trust them. Only once did I have a real problem when they sent me a check which was returned NSF. I then got a phone call from their rep. in London, apologising. She chatted to me for over an hour.

I am not actually taking it personally. I just found it strange that is all. I have no problem with them having my information on file - I just didn't see the need for more on top of everything they already have, that is all.

Also, when this request was sent, I did have a withdrawal pending. They have not 'held' it and the withdrawal was processed this morning.

This only causes concern when its viewed as a stalling tactic. IMO the FL group is solid and I dont really question their motives. Unless your pending w/d is the largest one you had I can see no problem with their request. In fact, this will pave the way for smoother w/ds when and if you hit big.:D

Most casinos require ID to make withdrawals. You can call yourself the Easter bunny and make deposits but if you want to take money out you usually need to submit ID.

A credit card number and an address is not ID. A driver's license has your name, address and photo on it and a utility bill has your name and address. This is proof.

It's not personal. It's business. Obviously you're winning from time to time and getting paid or you wouldn't be playing there so they're not crooks. And you might be as honest as Abraham Lincoln but not every else is so they want up to date information about who is playing at their casino.

If you're happy with the casino, they're giving you what you want. So give them what they want. Fair is fair.

But if you're not comfortable giving your identification, they probably won't be comfortable accepting your wagers. The choice is yours.

Every few years I get a bunch of these requests from different casino for updating purposes. No issue with it if you trust them and already sent in the info beforehand...

Just as one said, as long as it does not affect your withdrawals you should be ok and honor their request to avoid any delaying of payments which will happen if you do not do it. (Had it done to me on the first time it happened. Just like you, I was surprised and refused but quickly learned it only hurt me in the longrun.)

Being leery about sending personal information through cyber space is acceptable. Unfortunately unencrypted means of providing personal information by email transmissions is what most gaming site's request. Your information should be at least 256 bit encrypted when providing it to a gaming site.

Many will argue the fact that there isn't anything to backup the fact that these requests are ill responsible but it's surely a train wreck waiting to happen. For example: There's a curve in the road, along the side is a 150 ft. drop off. Currently there isn't a guard rail, if you ask the highway dept. why, they'll tell you we've never had any issues. But as soon as someone drives off the cliff and dies guess what go's up? Yes, a guard rail.

Email makes many stops before reaching the intended party, so naturally it makes since that someone else can gain access. Also have you ever inadvertently typed in a wrong address and it went through to an unintended party? It happens all the time.

An interesting read here on email privacy:

As for the request of documents, this is normal as others have said and if you've been doing business there for nine years it shouldn't be a concern with them having the documents. Also it doesn't matter how long you've been with the site, they may request them again in another 6 months.

So in theory the ID request is acceptable, the way they request it being provided is unacceptable as reflected by your cyber space concerns. And let's not forget Murphy's Law.
