Question for BTG - V-gamble

I'm not sure if anyone from BTG will comment on this, but i'm wondering how they can "patent" the gamble feature on Extra Chili, when Barcrest did that exact same feature around 10+ years ago on Rainbow Riches (we lovingly refer to it as a pie gamble) and multiple manufacturers have been using it since then in the UK and beyond...

I believe its like with megaways, they say they've patented the mechanic but in reality anyone can have the same effect (varying ways or pie-gamble) as long as they don't use the exact same word, because it's just variations of mechanics that have been done long before.

Its also legal to use the word V-Gamble or Megaways if you can prove its been used by anyone before.

If for example NetEnt were to make a "pie-gamble" feature or slot with varying ways, I sincerely doubt BTG would take them to court, which is the whole value of a patent (outside of posing in this case).

That said, it's not like anyone can use the exact math of "Megaways", and I for one am glad that they can't; happy to see more innovation.

Possibly because they're all under the same SG umbrella?

I dug in to this and can say with a high degree of certainty that BTG are not owned in full, or in part, by SG.
Plus Barcrest never patented it (because in the UK / EU, it would never hold up... it's not an invention).

It's not really the same either tbh.

The pie gamble is different.

The pie gamble is better, you're right - but it is similar in that the number of segments (size of the pie) is directly proportional to your chance of winning. In actuality, the pie gamble is better because the player can choose to do directly for the higher win if they choose...

I didn't say they were - under the same platform was perhaps how I should've put it. Pie gambles are nothing new, don't know when I first saw one.

Rainbow Riches - Pots of Gold i believe was the first one?

Hello,

There's no pies in Millionaire (unless your eating one whilst playing)... that's all you really need to figure out why V-Gamble™ has nothing to do with "better" pies.

Extra Chilli is just an iteration of the method that best served the game.

Cheers

Well that was as clear as mud. ;)

The first pie Gamble released by barcrest was on Golden Charms on the T7, it was basically Rainbow Riches, instead of the pots feature it was something weird like a win series.

High 5 had a pie gamble and that other game that said 'offer one twenty sevens pounds' 'offer two eighty two pounds'

Novomatic were the first company to bring us a pie if it were, a pre-stake pie gamble, if you remember it was on the Magic Games and gave repeat chances if it landed on the maximum risk pies.

Astra also released a very rare Party Time, which had a pre-stake pie gamble, I only ever saw one of these, so must have failed test.

I genuinely think that Barcrest made the best games back in the day, they've totally lost their way now, no games have the same charm or excitement as the Mummy Money, New York New York or Neptunes Treasure era.

Why can't they bring popular and proven games back like those?

Rob :)

@Big Time Gaming Is a pre-stake pie gamble allowed online?

Say if you had a stake of £1, you could set the pre-stake gamble to 5% green win and 95% lose.

So there's a 5% chance of a spin, however the spin would be greatly enhanced like only needing to get 1 scatter to enter the bonus instead of 3, or awarding a repeat chance on wins etc.

Not seen that for a long time, only ever seen it on compensated machines in the U.K.

Yes, that would be allowed...

Those games were actually compensated (slightly)... but whatever BTG think the V-gamble is, i can guarantee you it is extremely unlikely that a patent around a "Variable Gamble" (which is what i guess it is) would simply not stand up to scrutiny.

If it's something completely different, which we haven't seen yet, then i hold my hands up and admit i'm wrong :)

I'm in Gibraltar and popped my head in the casino to find this... Every full strip adds to the pots, it must trigger the free spins before filling to capability (20 free spins).

It can Trigger from 7+ feels a bit like Mega Pots, says it's random. Each stake is seperate and stakes go up to £10. There was a few on 18 which we took on and won.

Says it's a new game, hopefully it will appear on UK terminals as surely finding the pots 18+ is positive EV.
