PRESTIGE Casino Exits Australia??

It is now a fact that Prestige Casino have recently moved operations out of Australia, following closely the same actions of William Hill not to long ago.

What is going on? What could be the real reasons for these providers moving out of Australia so quickly??

This is probably down to Playtech calling the shots, and telling licensees that they need to pull out of the Australian market. This is what has been behind other such mass exits by a specific software brand, and was first seen in the mass exodus of certain softwares from the US market, where it tuned out to be the software vendor, not the individual operators, that was driving the move.

I would expect further Playtech casinos to pull out, and in turn this could be followed by others having seen Playtech take the lead. The vacuum will probably be filled by casinos using software such as RTG, Top Game, etc.

I know they (William Hill) bought up Joyland and Eurogrand, and I thought Prestige was a sister casino of those two (not entirely positive) but if they're also now owned by WH then that would explain it.

William Hill online is a joint venture with Playtech, so Playtech DO have a significant say in this. Playtech may also decide that their interests are even better served by ordering ALL Playtech licensees out of the Australian market in a similar way to how software vendors ordered all their licensees out of the US, even though many were prepared to risk staying in the US now at the expense of being cold shouldered when it came to legalisation and the granting of licenses within the US.

The Nevada officials will see some Playtech casinos sticking around in Australia, and some (the Will Hill owned ones) pulling out. They will also know that they are not considering granting a license to William Hill the UK high street bookies, but Will Hill Online, a Playtech/William Hill partnership being run as a separate entity.

I would expect Will Hill Online to maximise their chances of securing this deal, so would be happy to throw the Aussies to the wolves if they thought it would increase their chances. If this type of decision was merely at operator level, why did ALL Playtech casinos depart the US simultaneously.

Well I don't know much about how these things work, the only reason I knew about it at all is that someone (BingoT?) posted an APCW vid of JTodd talking about Purple Lounge, and the second part of the video was about this thing with William Hill so I looked for more info about it. Not because I live in OZ, but I do have a couple WH accounts and I wanted to be aware of whether they're doing something shady.

Awhile back a couple of the Playtech casinos pulled out of the Canadian market too, which made me a little nervous for awhile. I thought maybe it was the beginning of the end for my Playtech games, but it was just those two (Circus and ?) It was something about where they were licensed - I don't remember exactly what the reason was, the important thing is that it didn't affect any others.

William Hill purchased 3 bookmakers in the U.S whom run the sports betting operation from inside Navada casinos (not online).

They were just scared that offering certain games to Aussies online in which is illegal from an operator here, would hurt their chances of obtaining the license to run a sports betting operation inside those land based casinos (the only place its legal to bet on sports). So we get shoved aside, so they can go after the big $$, they would not be making $50mil (the price they paid for the 3 bookies) here in Aus so its a smart business move.

So it was William Hills decision and I do not believe Playtech has any hand in it, if Playtech pull out of Australia I will be very surprised.

But as I said in the other thread, I won't miss them anyway.


Just as a side note:

If Bet365 is anything to go by, it means bugger all if you offered Aussies online casino games as their Sports Betting License got through here. ( I know this is not the U.S )

However, does BetFair offer casinos in Oz? Reason I asked, BetFair is taking over the horse racing industry in the US as fast as they can. Own TVG and Daily Racing Form plus Hollywood Park racetrack. Don't know how many other fingers in the pot that the industry doesn't know about.

I know this is a precursor to being the first in the US gaming market so I was just wondering if they had ever had Australian casinos and if they had recently pulled out of that market.

Betfair are one of the biggest sport betting agencies we have over here and have been for quite a few years and as far as I can recall they have never offered casino games to Aussies as they would lose the license.
