Online casino Debit Visa transaction successful with wrong/random CVV

Yes mate, times between bank to Halycard and casino processing match up, so all good there.

Never used Halycard.

I think it will be fine in the end. Waiting for the casinos reply. Although an odd scenario, it appears that based on the evidence this far, that no fraud is at play.

Naturally the casino need to sort out the anomoly however, as by their own admission this should never happen, and it does potentially put the customer at risk.

Doesnt this all suggest that somebody is using other peoples funds to get Halycard rewards though? Still dont understand the link between an online casino in Cyprus and a pre paid card reward scheme from Spain.

On Halycard website it says you get 5 for every 250 you spend so i also dont get the potential risk v reward for getting caught out.

Like i said, it seems bonkers to me. Intriguing but bonkers. There could always be another explanation. I may be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. Best of luck!

I'm sorry but what does it mean though? Like if you can still pay without your cvv it just maximizes the risk of fraud or what?

Its what the financial institutions have all agreed.

Yes, your right, it would eliminate some fraudulent transactions if they insisted on cvv checks. Amazon dont require cvv to process every time and you would have thought somebody like they would.

All I know is some providers make a killing out of the non-secure transactions. The average merchant doesnt question what they are and doesnt check their itemised billing. The bills can be confusing and often the merchant will carry on not realising they are paying a lot more per transaction than they could if they tightened up their payment processing.

As for companies like Amazon, maybe the amount they sell through being slightly lax probably trades off against their non secure transaction charges OR maybe the provider voided them to win their card processing business- i think the latter is more likely.

Update: I’m still waiting for a reply from the casino.

My bank statement now shows ‘miscellaneous debit’ for the Halycard transactions - the normal description for payments processed online.

Honestly mate, I don’t know what the story is just yet; bonkers is right.

Hey, for those of you interested in this thread, sorry to report that there is still no update available from the casino’s support team. Will advise as soon as I receive word from them - appears it could be a while though....

Cheers

Long time since I’ve followed up on this thread so I’d thought I better provide an update.

I never received a clear and definitive answer from the casino, but the general feedback is that casinos use a wide number of processors, including ones that don’t seem to make sense; such as Haly Card.

It’s pretty obvious to most players I guess these days. At the time I obviously thought it was odd, and I wanted to find out more.

Somewhat of a wasted endeavour....
