A bill has just been introduced and sent to the committe of Jurisprudence banning Gambling. Please send an email to Representative Pena, the Committee Chairperson. Here's a copy of what I sent:

Is this Bill aimed at Gambling Establishments physically located in our State? The Bill is vague.

I noticed that it is listed under MORAL issues.

I do not see that the act of playing poker or skill-games for money or prizes is any different than playing the State Lotto, or going to the Horse or Dog Races.

You have more chance playing a skill game or poker and winning than you do playing the Lotto.

So, to say this is a Moral issue or is in the best interest of Citizens, while allowing them spend their money on the Lottery, Betting on Horses and Dog Races is just RIDICULOUS.

If you want to deny Gambling then do not allow ANY FORM OF GAMBLING. Do away with the Lotto, Horses and Dogs. Citizens lose millions on these forms of "legal gambling"

Do you have a link to the reportage on this bill please, or other reference that can be checked in detail?

Pena has a blog

Isn't there legal video poker in Texas or am I mistaken? Is that what this bill is after?

Edit: After reading the bill it mentions "gambling device" over and over. It certainly looks like a video poker ban. If I remember correctly there are Pot of Gold machines all over Texas.

Hi Pokeraddict. We don't have any legalized video gambling in Texas. The church groups scream about not wanting gambling--aka casinos--but we have lotto, horse racing, dog racing, bingo. Soooo . lol. This "crack down" on illegal video slots is an ongoing thing that has been around many years. And--the video machines just pop up somewhere else. :)

I dunno, I havent seen the orginal bill that this one has amended, but this one seems to discribe the lotto machines in our state that randomly pick numbers for players! Jackpots can be awarded on site up to certain amounts but then must be awarded off site thru state gov offices. It also specifically mentions lotto's on the no no list. What about church raffles? lol are those church ladies that wanted to ban gambling going to be shot in the foot with their own desires? Some of those church raffles pull in loads. I suppose being a non profit organization would be their saving grace.... It would be nice to see the orginal bill.:)
