How Trump snapped out of coronavirus delusion mode

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

It took a stock market crash — and a Fox News star's intervention — to finally snap President Trump's delusional and possibly disastrous fixation with treating the coronavirus like just another winter flu.

Trump has always treated the stock market as his personal ticker on his performance. On Thursday, the stock market had its biggest one-day fall since 1987's Black Monday crash

And a number of informal Trump advisers — including Fox News host Tucker Carlson — emphasized to the president that this was not the flu and urged him to act fast.

...Top administration officials are finally following the CDC's guidance on limiting the virus' spread. Though Trump himself shook hands in public as recently as Friday, Vice President Pence told White House staff on Saturday afternoon to avoid physical contact with others.

You're probably right but it's the same in the uk, a shortage or rationing of tests, I doubt we are doing more than the US and we have a national health service, under the govt's direct control, as our main health provider not private hospitals like the US.

I don't think he is doing too bad now, except trying to buy this german vaccine company sounds very trumpian and silly/crass though.

Canada is doing more testing than the US and we have 1/10th the population. But like the UK, we also have universal health care. The US has only rolled out a small percentage of the tests yesterday, so the UK is definitely doing more.

Factor in Americans reluctance to go to the doctor because they cannot afford it, and many employers do not offer paid sick days, people will go to work sick and forgo testing

I think our neighbours to the south are in for a world of hurt in the coming days.

Despite the ban, there were 90+ planes landing in the US from China every week.

was this in the original post, I must be going blind

what does that mean though, the airline companies ignored the ban or the ban didn't actually come into place? Repatriating american students and tourists etc stranded in china possibly?

I had it in the post but I only read it in one article and didn't doublecheck as I usually do. So i removed the number.

But there was still scheduled flights landing at a select few US airports.

You are correct. Unfortunately, the general perception is that Trump called COVID-19 a hoax, and in this case, I admit he has been unfairly pilloried.

However, many of his other comments on COVID-19 are indefensible, e.g.
- "I don't take responsibility at all" regarding the diagnostic testing shortage

- claiming that health insurance providers had agreed to waive their customers payments for coronavirus-related treatment.

- falsely declaring that any American who needs a coronavirus test can get one.

The list goes on and on and on. If only he would lead the nation - after all, it is supposed to be the UNITED States - instead of bullying and insulting and ducking issues he can't avoid or control.

And then there is his classic tweet from Nov 9th 2013, which he obviously doesn't believe applies to him, even though he is the President:

Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible.

I saw the press conference, the only thing I didn't like was him dodging responsibility. Could have answered it better.

here is an article on the insurance.

I'm pretty sure one the public/private partnerships are up and running testing will be smooth and quick.

I tried to create a free account, but just keep going round in circles. I may switch to a different browser and try again.

Don't know why I use Edge as I loathe it.

Not as much as Google and its privacy concerns, though.

I’m using Safari and not logged into any account. I hate Edge too.
Looks like this for me.

According to the CDC:

13th March:
  • Total cases: 1,629
  • Total deaths: 41
15th March:
  • Total cases: over 3,400
  • Total deaths: 65
More than double in 2 days. That is pretty much the same curve all other countries experienced, and it is not at its steepest angle yet, plus, still much lower levels of testing in the US. One can only hope it won't take the same trajectory as in SK, Italy, Spain etc.

The European markets are tanking, Dow Futures stopped last night at the max threshold of -5%, and that after the FED announcement. But Mr T said how happy he is. He finally got his 0% interest rate.

I just skimmed it. Looks like Alberta Health Services asks symptomatic people to call the health authority first and then, if need be, they’ll send them for Coronavirus testing and there are drive-thru testing sites available.

I don’t live in Alberta, but that’s my article summary for you. :)

Funny how you cheerleaders rally every time to find an explanation for his nonsense  ...... e.g. fine people on both sides, he was only joking etc.

This is a transcript of what he said exactly. Most sites state that it can be understood both ways because after the sentence with "hoax" he does not say anything on how the Democrats spin it or politicize it. Instead, he describes the current status of the Coronavirus situation and what brags about what he did.

Gesus H. This thread is proof that TDS is a real mental disorder. EVEN though a video of BOTH of these situations is available for reference, you continue to push false narratives. If Trump is such a horrible, idiotic, failure... why do you repeatedly fall back to categorically false statements? Just because you infer duplicity, doesn't mean it exists.

It’s not just the media hype. It’s the death rate. This is what’s worrisome.

Mortality rates

Seasonal flu: 0.1%
H1N1: 0.02%
Coronavirus: 3.4%

It is awful, but we need to keep some perspective.

The US confirmed cases are grossly underreported. The numbers are so low because all of their medical professionals do not have CV tests or not enough of them. Epidemiologists estimate there are 100,000 or more cases right now. Becase the virus has a long incubation period, most don’t know they are infected. Their health care system will be at the brink in about 10-14 days.

What epidemiologists?
There is no treatment for this virus aside from the normal procedures. We handle the effin flu, why is this going to put us on the brink?

Notable: the Americas are coded light yellow.
*looks around
You all have a lot of nerve dog piling President Trump.

Something cheery for you to wake up to Harry. Trump is talking about sticking $1,000 into every American citizen over 18's pocket in order to help them through the coming weeks. Not a loan-giving.
It makes a huge change from spending billions bailing out big business and I suspect that it will go down so well with the American public that if there was any doubt that he would win the next election before this then its now game set and match to Trump IMO

Keep dreaming :p Trump just lost his only argument...the economy.
Yeah, but he was right about it being ‘the China virus’ or is that racist, just like the ‘Spanish flu’
I’ll bet my right testicle he wins 2020, the world has had enough of sjw nonsense and democrat bumfluffery.
hence having such a superb leader like trump.

Bernie is finished, America rejected his socialist policies.

That is true but now your buddy is facing Biden. Good luck!

Are you trying to apply for a boychoir or something? Well if you don't like your right testicle then suit yourself!

Use my left then.
and I wasn’t aware I’m being interviewed for a position, if I am then it would be advocate of fair play to streamers.
regarding trump, he’s smashed 2020, Biden or creepy joe hasn’t a hope.
silly old sod Bernie is drinking warm milk reading Jeremy corbyns guide of how to lose at the biggest rate in over 50 years.
stay safe mate and well away from this Chinese virus, it’s most unpleasant.

I think I'll be fine. We finns know how to do social distancing. You better stay safe too so you'll see the results in November! :P

has Biden got a chance in your view Slotplayer, can he win enough states from Trump?

Or do you see a similar result as 2016 when hillary ran?

The COV19 is playing in to Biden's Hands because his campaign managers want to keep him off the campaign trail due to all the senior moments. Plus he still has to get through the the convention speech in July and then the debates with T.

But I think T will etch out a win.

We're past the point of Trump being praised for anything at this juncture, it wouldn't matter what amount he gave them, it can be twisted any which way, like "It's bribery" and so forth

But surely better to give them the $1000, than...... not?

But until it actually happens, it'll just be talk and an unfulfilled pledge

Nah mate, nothing is decided yet.

But you see, slotplayer is the best example. Rejecting socialist policies but then welcoming government handouts from his Dear Leader which is the most socialist thing there is.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

And how long will $1000 last? 1 or 2 weeks? Remember most workers in the US don't get anything when they lose their job. So they have no income whatsoever. Sure, $1K will help but it is more like a straw fire than anything else. Enacting proper unemployment and health care insurance would take care of that, but then, hey, that is socialism again....bad, bad.....

FYI, the Spanish Flu emanated from the USA!!!!! And they covered it up as long as possible.

It received the name because the Spanish were the first that decided to speak up.

This is a time when socialism is needed and is being provided. As a die hard capitalist I can accept that.
But this isn’t a normal every day situation the world finds itself In.
Granted I’ve squirrelled away a few bob, that said when I’m offshore I pay 40% tax, so I’d like to have a few quid back in a time I’d need.
Thing is many many won’t of paid a penny into this... I’m due a rebate, just less than 3k I was told, don’t get me wrong it’ll be handy, but upon speaking to HMRC earlier there is a massive backlog, as I’m ok financially (not great) I said it wasn’t urgent..
What about those who pay nothing into the system yet demand the most out of it?..
Means testing on earnings and national insurance and income I’ve always thought should be a factor on what your entitled to in times of need, we are not all the same, not equal and all contribute into society differently.

Geez, can't you see where this is going?

Give the US population some crumbles for them to cheer and be quiet so he can give about 4-5x as much to corporations. Was the same with the tax cut.... Mr T's next big con!

No it’s not hypocrisy. What you pay in you should be means tested into what you get out.
We all earn differently, id not want to share my 40% tax with someone whom hasn’t paid a penny into the system.
Also a situation like this has to use socialism, to say any other is piffle harry.

Oh yes, it is hypocrisy.

BTW, taxes are not a socialist invention. So there's that!

Trump will get it in the neck no matter what he does such is the media bias against him.

Try typing "Trump News" in Google searches. Page after page of anti Trump. I got to the 4th page without finding one reference to the $1,000 givaway. Why? Because they would rather it be Hillary giving it.

Roll the ‘harry eyes’ all you like mate.
You didn’t address anything I actually said.
Also trump hasn’t paid me to post this.

Oh yes, I fully addressed it. Not my problem if you do not understand it. But I'll repeat it one more time.

TAXES are not exactly a socialist invention!

You can also go back to 2009 and see how the republicans resisted any kind of bailout package from Obama and what they were saying at the time. But hey, always fine when they do it.

Oh yes, it is hypocrisy.

On the IRS headquarter's building it's chiselled "Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society.”

1584579455556.png

I think it's true but there also needs to be a saying regarding the tax money wasted by govt, which then doesn't go where it's most needed. And with the violent crime rate soaring we're becoming less civilized.

edit: Also the big firms and billionaires go to great lengths to dodge paying their fair share.
