I don't think you're paranoid, but I've been using a separate (that is, not my main) checking account to fund Neteller for over a year, and haven't had the slightest glitch. Neteller is pretty good.
(Though I do wish that Neteller would reply to questions that have put to it about the extent to which it will unilaterally dip into a player's Neteller (not personal checking) account at the behest of a casino. This interesting, and potentially troubling, question was raised on another board, and the silence from Neteller was pretty deafening.)
