Christmas Day is meant to be one of the big draws for the UK National Lottery. Many millionaires created and others winning life changing amounts. @News Hound reported on the Spanish draw the other day - more expensive for sure but plenty of winners.

So December 25th 2019 was advertised as a £15 MILLION spectacular, widespread publicity on TV and radio. What was reality? The biggest prize won £15,630! What a fucking joke!

Taking a look at the facts and figures for 2019... Only 10 jackpot winners and on average 25-40 million tickets (£2) sold each every draw - circa 70 million a week.

EDIT: Also, the biggest win on the Euromillions yesterday from a UK player was £1508! Sweet Jesus.

If a online casino posted that and then not give £15m away the ASA would have a field day with a hefty fine.

Another thing for the Gambling Commission to look into?

They did give the £15 million away???

As nobody matched 6 numbers or 5 and bonus ball what was they meant to do.

At the end of the day people with less numbers have benefited, £116 for 3 numbers is pretty good.

Since they put the price up to £2 a ticket most people stopped playing it, which is why theres so many roll overs and less millionaires.

It's xmas night and your spiting fire over the Lotto, get a grip.

Yeah I don't get this? No one got 6 numbers, the £15 million was shared between other winners. What exactly would the ASA have a field day about?
You made a whole rant about how the £15 million wasn't paid out, but didn't actually say what they should have done instead?

Maybe Nicola had a little too much prosecco last night. :p

I mean, how often does she actually use the F word in her posts? Pretty much never.

I don't know why they had to change the odds in 2015, it's not as though it was too easy to get the jackpot

from the bbc

"The big difference is that the numbers from which you make your six selections will go up in October from one to 49 to one to 59.

While this doesn't sound like it will make a huge difference, it actually takes your odds of winning the jackpot from one in 14 million to one in 45 million."

I wonder if anyone is still using the same numbers from 1994  too scared to stop

I think most big winners have come from using the 'random' lucky dip; there use to be a good program on ITV fronted by the dj dr neil pox, where they had some maths professor do an equation and then purchase thousands of tickets [the big call 2005] the winning contestant could choose a cash prize or the lottery tickets ahead of the draw iirc.

Since its been changed past years its disgusting, I play the thunderball £1 a ticket way better odds and prizes IMO, The lotto at £2 a ticket is day light robbery have no idea why anyone plays it

I've only just got over the 2005 rollover and how people took the p*ss back then. Might need a minute to digest this!

Outrageous if you ask me

But what could they do? If nobody wins, should it keep rolling over?

In this case, a load of people are getting 7500x their stake. I think they’ll be happy.

IIRC it was changed due to lack of millionaire winners and drop in ticket sales, but all they did is made it worse.

Ticket sales dropping was not really due to the game itself more a case of too many new games, and far more frequent draws, most people were only going to stick to a set amount to spend and was stupid to think the change was going to help.

If they really want to revive the lotto, put it back to £1, 1-49 numbers and have it only once a week on a Saturday. Cutting down the frequency of the other games would probably help too.

I mean how they thought having all these new games and more frequently was not against responsible gaming I have no idea LOL

Yes. To also add: it was the overblown advertizement bombardments from the likes of Camelot that near enough desensitise 'non-gamblers' into viewing lotteries and the like as recreational, harmless fun.

Hell, I never partook of Lottery-related activities because I considered it a waste of a quid. Next thing you know I'm registered at the National Lottery site and purchasing tickets online :what: and discovering side-tabs with these curious, colourful video slots......

So if it was bad a decade ago, today's sensory overload of lottery-related options and 'games' have somewhat ruined the concept of just casual players 'having a punt' in the hope of striking lucky.

And yes the adverts here in the UK are positively encouraging EVERYONE to partake with their affable tales of how they'd buy their auntie Flo a yacht etc and how gambling in this format is a 'positive thing to do', not to mention how a share goes to the Arts and charities. So it's going to a good cause, right?

Wouldn't be holding my breath for the UKGC to intervene anytime soon. But the hypocracy and inaction is comical, at best :D

The lottery now is terrible, not only have the ticket prices doubled, but numbers 1-59, reducing the chances of winning. Granted the smaller wins have increased, but the jackpots have dropped massively, and its much harder to get a win than it was. Plus, the 4 and 5 ball prizes haven't doubled from what they were at the start to take account of the double stake. Jackpots at the start were usually £9 million +, now, 4 is the exception.

Its always been a big time ripoff, but the price and number of balls increase was just taking the piss.
The thinking behind it was to increase the value of the the jackpot by more rollovers as the jackpot
amounts were declining on the old system.
I feel sorry for all the syndicate members who have been participating for years but dare not drop out.
Pleased to say I have not bought a ticket for 10 years.

The VTOS (Voluntary Tax On Stupidity) is something I too haven't played since the noughties. Plus you have the Euromillions taking players from the traditional lottery anyway. I have admittedly paid the VETOS a few times when the jackpots were huge.

The only lotto I play is the Euromillions when I have a few coins change, always do 1 line with the plus draw for €3.50.
Playing lotto is hoping for something that for 99.9% of the people will never happen in their lifetime so I do not see the need to invest a lot of money in those pipedreams.

I rather play with more realistic odds so I play 3 numbers in the bookies, €2.00 bet mostly and if they come out it is €3000.00 and I am MORE than happy to win that amount, have had them twice in 3 years but at least the odds are much much better than trying and hope to win the Jackpot in the lotto.

That said, Irish Lotto is a joke, 5 numbers gets you maybe €1000.00-€2000.00, meaning 1 number off the Jackpot and the price is absolute crap.
They all shove it in the tier 1 prize.

Besides that the Irish Lotto is ridiculously expensive. For what you get back which is mostly 0.

So I've just got up to speed with the maths and prize breakdown posted above, why couldn't the 15 million jackpot be shared with the 67 players who had the next best amount of picked numbers giving them £220,000 approx [would've been a life changing result to some degree] ?

If I'd played it last night that's what I would have expected
