Stevie this slot needs patience more than any other and plenty of funds to feed it through the dead sessions.
I had 2 x 5 scatter within 600 spins 2 weeks ago at VS, nothing but really nothing even worth mentioning since.
On DOA you will always have a guaranteed bust if you don't hit at least the 5 extra spins with a reasonable amount of wilds, not like mine though, or a WL or 5 x scatter. The question is only how long your balance will last, which depends how generous the slot is with 5OAK's and medium well paying bonus rounds.

Just to flip the coin over, I have had dead sessions for the last 6 months or so and hit my wild line in the last week.
I would love to know if the conspiracy theory is right on this that the software pools its big payouts when the time is right, and any other time nobody, nowhere is hitting it big, or whether we are all playing individual games.

A while ago I may have said the latter, but as of late and based on three/ four years' worth of playing this beast I do sometimes feel as though the big wins are pooled due to the multitude of simultaneous winner screenshots.
Perhaps everything in between is purely feeding the slot back up! Only problem being that somebody has to take that step or else we'd all be sinking coins into it from now until eternity!
No doubt I'll change my mind after I've got that wildline. Faith can be easily restored with this weird game

According to my records the slot certainly seems to pay in waves. Weeks of nothing major are followed by maybe 1 week of constant big hits, not only WL's or 5x scatter, but also a number of well paying bonus round without a WL but still in the 500 - 1500x bet range, which can be good amounts if the bet size was big enough.
In 18 months of playing heavily on this slot i would always have within 1 week 1 - 4 WL and a few bonus rounds with the extra spins paying anything up to 1500x bet followed by what feels like endless weeks of feeding back/filling-up.
June - July 2015 was the worst drought period with not even once the extra spins in the bonus rounds. This was then followed by 3 WL's, 2x extra spins with over 1000x bet payouts and 1 x 5 scatter within the first 2 weeks of August, including a WL worth 20K AUD at Redbet.
It also seems to be totally irrespective of the casino i am playing at. If the slot is dead it is dead anywhere i would try. The sessions are even comparable, e.g. the 6 sessions i had on Saturday at 5 different casinos within 11 hours. I had in each 1-2 bonus rounds within the first 150 spins, none paying anything substantial and would show only 1-3 WILDS. After that the slot went "deader" than dead for 400-600 spins without a single bonus round and then the first one paid only 5-10x bet showing a max of 2 WILDS. I thought this can't be happening.

How about 1Mio+ spins! That's how long i needed last year to get my first 5 x scatter and WL.
Started playing it pretty much daily in Dec 2014 and had the 5x scatter mid May and first WL beginning of June 2015.
I can agree up to a point...I don't know can I count in it some 2000 spins in free mode which also were very poor..on TS2 I surely did over 8000 spins and still didn't see 3 or 4 reel WS...

From my records of millions of spins on both slots I had on average:
- 3-reel WS --> every 200-250,000 spins (with no guarantee it will pay something, e.g. when Reels 145 or 245 or 345 are turning wild
)- 4-reel WS --> every 700-750,000 spins
- Wild Line --> every 40-45,000 spins

3 or 4 reel WS on TSII is super rare. Much more often on IR.

They are pooled - NetEnts RNG works like that - Do yourself a favour, play 2 or 3 DOA sessions at the same time and watch how scatters fall on the same reels at the same time. Watch the similarity in the symbols. Take note of the dead streaks on all the games where features don't fall.
Then as you said, look at the Winner Screenshots and see 2 - 3 Wild Lines in the same day. Random? LOL

During my high time with MG casinos about a decade ago i was told once by some casino peeps that it surprised them how often 25-30 players in a row logging into a slot would have a stellar run and big wins followed by extremely dry periods during which even the normal average of 1 winner / 22-25 players would be undercut.
They could just never pinpoint to the right moment when it would happen. Slots would suddenly got to 250, 300, even 400 - 500 % RTP for a short period only to drizzle down again.

Someone please shoot me lol. So I got royalspins on Royal panda with 3 days of 10fs per day I got my bonus up to 130$. First bonus wagering requirements are about 1000$. Experienced as you describe with the WMS 'cycles' Zeus (original) is a bugger for it some sessions (most actually) 2 scatter teasers none stop and 3rd won't drop and then when the hot cycles arrive, you get so many features it gets boring
No definate indicator but there is the odd sign (try it people before hurling the foil at me) when DOA is going to gobble you up, in say 100 spins you will get virtually no 'teaser' spins and a single scatter on reel one only roughly one in every 4 spins!
The constant appearance of a single scatter on reel 1 only on both IR and TS II is another tell tale sign of 'Change game NOW!' also - Happened way too many times to be a foil theory or coincidence.
Trust me on this one, not for a moment saying anything untoward but simple indicators from very lengthy play and regular reoccurring observations.
Now if only I could spot some signs of when to press 'Bet Max'

As far as IR goes. There are 45 symbols on reel 1 of which, 4 are scatters.
So on ANY spin, there's a 26.66% chance of getting a scatter.
Where as reel 2 has only 1 scatter in 57 symbols = 5.26% chance
reel 3 has 2 scatters in 62 symbols = 9.67% chance
reel 4 has 1 scatter in 53 symbols = 5.66% chance
reel 5 has 1 scatter in 65 symbols = 4.61% chance
