Gates of Olympus: Love It, Hate It, or Just Watching Your Balance Disappear?

Gates of Olympus.webp

If you've spent any time in an online casino in the last few years, you've met Zeus. Gates of Olympus by Pragmatic Play has become one of the most played slots on the market, and players have opinions. Strong ones.

Here are the basics for anyone not familiar with it.

THE STATS

Gates of Olympus runs on a 6x5 grid with a cluster pay mechanic — you need 8 or more matching symbols anywhere on the reels to win, with cascading tumbles chaining wins together. Random multiplier symbols can land on any spin with values between 2x and 500x. During the free spins bonus, those multipliers stack into a running total rather than resetting between tumbles, which is where the big numbers come from.

The headline RTP is 96.5% — but this is a Pragmatic Play title, which means operators can and do configure lower variants. You may be playing at 94% or 92% without knowing it. It is worth checking with your preferred casino if that matters to you.

Maximum win is 5,000x. Volatility is high. The bonus triggers on average around 1 in 209 spins based on tracked community data — not the 1 in 150 you might see quoted elsewhere.

The bonus buy option costs 100x your bet for guaranteed access to the feature.

THE CASE FOR

When the free spins land and the multipliers start stacking, very few slots match the rush. The running total multiplier mechanic means a single good bonus can erase a long, cold session in a handful of tumbles. The 500x multiplier symbol landing on a stacked win is one of the more memorable moments in modern slots.

THE CASE AGAINST

It is a long wait between bonuses. At 1 in 209 spins on average, and with high volatility in the base game, the bankroll takes punishment before Zeus decides to cooperate. The 5,000x cap is also modest for a high volatility game of this profile — you are riding out significant variance for a ceiling that many comparable titles exceed.

And then there is the RTP question. If your preferred casino is running the 92% version, the maths are working considerably harder against you than the headline figure suggests.

YOUR TURN

We want to hear from players who have actually put time into this one. Feel free to post your screenshots, videos, bonus buy, and base game wins too. Please keep it specific to Gates of Olympus (Original)

  • What is your best bonus win?
  • How many spins before your longest bonus drought?
  • Are you playing it at a preferred casino that publishes its RTP configuration, or are you taking it on trust?
  • Do you still play it, or have you moved on?

Pragmatic Play is a casino developer reviewed at Casinomeister
Let me start:

I love the game and mechanics. What I do hate is the variance. I have had the max win on this slot more than once, but in the long term, I have lost a stupendous amount compared to what I actually raked back.

Do I still play it? On occasion, yes, but I have left Pragmatic Play for other providers. Their games seem too predictable, bonuses take too long, and ultimately, I don't think I am running anywhere near the published RTP.

Best Win: 5000x (Max)
Worst Drought: Probably 1000 spins
RTP: Only 96% version
Still Play: Yes, rarely, but not as much as I used to.

It's a giant pile of shit and I can't stand it. Everytime I've ever touched any version of this bullshit it has cost me at least a hunge, every bonus is 600+ spins apart, they pay nothing and they're boring as fuck.

I've tricked myself into playing this ass game so many times by telling myself, "It's got to pay something sometime." Well, no, it doesn't. I've lost and lost hard every single time.

Haven't touched it in months (okay, a month) and never will again.

Were you playing the 96% version?

I was, with ante bet on. My best win on any Gates game was 324x which didn't even get me even for the session. And while I have had a few bonuses in the first couple of spins in the past, those have been few and far between and every single one paid next to nothing.

I wanna punch this game so bad.

I hear you. Me too...

I am of the opinion that the max win is not suited to the variance

I used to play this alot, for 2 reasons I thought the Max Win Probability was quite low (1/697,250 according to BigWin Board), and used to appear in loads of videos giving Max Win, so assumed I could tick that off my bucket list playing this game. Secondly, used to play lots of the Pragmatic tournaments where 100x win gave 10,000 points and this gave that often even in the base game so could normally finish in a money position without risking too much balance.

I have not had the Max Win, and estimate playing at least double the stated max win probability spins (not out of the norm and will keep plugging away) but have had many great 1,000+x wins, always from the base game.

I say its a great game, and tend to stick to this rather than its many later variants. At least this doesn't have unattainable bonuses that can only be bought and UK players don't feel disadvantaged.

I would have to say 1 in 209 spins for the bonus must be with the Extra Bet turned on cos it can take an age without it, and Big Win Board stats above claim 1/448. Is there an Game sheet with Pragmatics released figures?

It's a legendary slot and one most will have played a lot. What I like best about it is that its popularity helped make way for a lot of similar slots, many of them far more enjoyable - like my personal favourites of this kind of concept Gemhalla (BGaming) and TNT Bonanza (Booming).

It's the slot I in screenies and streams etc. have seen the most max wins from, yet I've never had one myself. My personal best is 3,000x or so - from a set of deposit bonus free spins in which the terms decided to leave me with 10 EUR or so out of that 600 EUR win

I revisit it from time to time, and every once in a while it takes on the role of balance saver, but more often than that, it absolutely demolishes whatever I have left!

A "rare and occasional" visit game for me, amongst many others lol.

If I do play Pragmatics at all, which as suggested above is rare, then this game is on the list, usually along with Wild West Gold (original not MW) and Dog House (Original)

Have had some decent wins when I do visit it, even recall a 400x + win from a FS token when it was used on one of VS battle weekends albeit a long time ago.

The mechanic is great, I'd also play with the Extra bet on so 25p a spin rather than 20p - Usually triggered a bonus fairly easily and never stuck it out long enough to get frustrated or lose too much thinking "is it ever going to drop" (AKA Bonanza Style)

Best Win: 700x £140 - 20p bet (25p really)
Worst Drought: Never stuck it out long enough
RTP: Guesstimate 94% (VS)
Still Play: Very rarely, but makes the odd appearance

This is the only answer!

i never got the the love for that slot. super hard to bonus, basegame hits are very rare.
when you need a multi they disappear...
the theme and presentation isnt my cup of tea either

This is the only answer!
I want to give that answer - it is a gobbler IMPO.

But then again, as usual, I find myself being a sucker for punishment. I must admit, I have fully migrated away from the slot - occasional play OK, but once you start hammering, Zeus thunderbolts your balance away from you.

I've tried the base game and feature buy. You can bonus early or wait for circa 300x bet to see a few features. If it's a bad mood (90% of the time), it will suck 500x then drop you some pennies back.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve put my fair share of spins through it! When it hits it’s magical.

There’s a member on here (who I haven’t seen around here for over six months) who has maxxed this and its variations something like seven times. So it can have its moments I guess.

Used to play it regular but got a terrible sickner off it on goldenbet. Bought about 200!pounds worth the bonuses 20p stakes. Highest win was 7pounds. Dead spin galore. But to be honest they where using a fake version off the game so had no chance anyway.

1000% Agree this is the Chris Martin of Coldplay of slots , needs face punching
I have lost so much on Pragmatic play I can't even explain but I have some recent Screenshots to show that they never provide... They do not provide spin at all....
On buying spins they provide these as shown below.....

In my honest opinion, feature buys are for casual play. The minute you start buying repeated bonuses is when you start to see the real ugly side of Pragmatic Play. Yes - you will win on occasion, but losses far exceed that.

I see the patterns. Once you win on a particular game, every bonus buy thereafter, regardless of which one you play, will suck the winnings back. This could be a conspiracy (like in my mind ), or it could merely mean that it's very difficult to win something substantial.

Bonus buys are the most profitable model for any provider - that's why almost everyone offers them.

Well on playing normally free spins are not provided at all due to our rigged sites such as betjili,kv8...
They manipulate by not providing a single freee spin while playing...

I have complained to PP that the gaming site have rigged the game by not providing anything at all even 1 free spin is not provided at all....

But it's our bad luck they didn't even once took a peak by monitoring the site...

I had a ~1500x win not too long ago. I just recently started playing this game. Zeus, lord of thunder, in all his glory dropped a 100x multiplier in the base game. He made me a believer!

He will punish you for that. Your wallets soul is the trade.
Haha, I have no doubt about that. To expand a bit on why I enjoy it though.
  • I'm a fan of the scatter pays mechanic, it's very intuitive.
  • The random multiplier mechanic makes it very clear what I'm chasing, and the bonus game just expands on it. It's a very focused and simple game in that way, which I appreciate.
  • I like how Zeus is directly involved in the gameplay, granting me a multiplier if he deems me worthy, in contrast to characters in other games who are more passive. It adds in a positive way to the atmosphere of the game and makes me more invested. If I only pray hard enough, he will eventually hear me!

I've played this slot twice after seeing this thread when it was first posted and tonight after seeing it bumped again.

Both times I've hit the bonus pretty quickly with the extra bet on. First time returned 70x and tonight I hit it in less than 10 spins for 25x.

This might be one of the few pragmatics I've played that actually plays quite well in the base game. The only other one I liked for a while was Release the Kraken.

I completely avoid pragmatics these days, I think Big Bass has made me dislike any of their slots as soon as I open them lol.

Also 5000x for a max win on most of them is just too low. I don't expect to hit a max win but I use 5 or 10% of it as a guide to what would be a decent bonus and maybe achievable.

Yes, the mechanic is great - that's why I play it.

Pragmatic made a name for themselves with the game.

Yes, the 5000x is low, but the variance feels like it can pay 20 000x. For me, it's one of those games that doesn't play the same anymore. I don't know if anyone else feels the same.

This might explain why it plays quite well for a pragmatic. Got successful off it and then rode that success to laziness and started churning out Big Bass reskins

You mentioned the same about DoA/DoA2 when I joined. I've felt a little like this about DoA2 since the start of the year but I'm not sure whether I just had a decent run on it last year or if it has actually changed.

Which slots do you feel still play the same as they always did? Or which ones do you still play a lot? Just interested as I've only played for a short time compared to most members here.

I'd ask which other ones you think have changed but it could be a long list or "most of them"!

TBH, None of them that I can think of, as many members will attest to alongside me. Gambling doesn't feel like it used to. I don't know if this is an illusion, but there were changes from Flash to HTML5 over the years.

Many of the games that ran like a dream became stuttering junk. Break Da Bank Again, Dead or Alive, Immortal Romance, Thunderstruck - and many more firm favorites.

There was an era here at CM when a lot of people played DOA, and the hits were abundant. I must admit there is a chance people no longer play those slots, largely due to market dilution and the introduction of huge paytables (Max Wins) that the old slots don't have. There are thousands of new slots, many new providers, and more games to play.

Then, if we add in the varying RTP models, the older games start losing traction even faster. For example, there is also a 94% version of DOA and BDBA.

I still play DOA, DOA2 Feature Buy, and some NLC titles. mostly Mental. When I dabble with Pragmatic Play, BTG, and others, it often ends in disaster.
