Is everyone else getting this kind of heat?

Yep. I have friends in Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Florida, Virginia, N. Mexico, Canada and South Carolina.

It is an exceptionally hot beginning of summer for many. We had no Spring, it went directly from Winter to 90 plus degrees. Welcome to high electric bills for having to run the A/C so early and so long. It sucks.

Right there with you....

Today: 100
Monday: 97
Tuesday: 100
Wednesday: 100
Thursday: 99
Friday: 92 (finally!!! cold front lol)

Evenings are 66, 69, 73, 71 and 71 respectively.

I can't wait for August!!

And I'm in southeastern PA!! I'm sure this is going to be one of the hottest summers in a long time. I guess Al Gore was right, afterall? :D

Hiya: I love the heat. The hotter the better. It really is true. the saying of, 'Las Vegas is a dry heat". It can and does top 110' here. And you do not sweat. In the philippines, it rarely tops 85-90, but the humidity is so high, you sweat like a pig. I like to dry heat better. And in August, i just remember that it is OK, because in febuary, when everyone else is shoveling snow, I am not..................

I live in a very small town in Arizona, and it was 115 the other day. No kidding. I won't even go outside during the day unless absolutely neccessary.
UGH.

I grew up in Vegas, so I should be used to this by now...

Tomorrow its supposed to be 109  :eek2:

Well hey Mommymachine in Florence, I live in Globe which is just over the hills from you! I think our weather has been pretty nice actually, a few hot days, but seems to me the hot as hell days have started a little later than usual. So may be a short summer here, I hope. ;)

This is my first summer here in Arizona. I am used to having hot as hell days, but 115 degrees  and July just started...However the nights here are beautiful.

I love the heat too. (Outside that is)
I will lay out in the sun & work up a great sweat with my water next to me.
I work around the house outside better if it's hot.
Thank God for central air in the house.
We complain if it's to cold & we complain if it's to hot.
Have a Great Summer
~T~

It's warming up here too!

Not the 100 degree heat here in the UK, but we have been in the low 90's a couple of times, and bookies are taking bets about the all time UK record falling again this year. 2003 saw a verified 100 degrees F here for the first time, beating earlier records set in 1976 and 1983.

2003 saw heat related deaths over much of Europe, with temperatures over 100 Degrees day after day. In Europe, the humidity is much higher than the desert heat of places like Arizona and Nevada, and this makes it more uncomfortable.

The hurricane season is supposed to be very active this year, and has already opened it's account. This weekend saw severe gales in Scotland, which is pretty unusual for July, and there is another "dartboard" forecast for the mid Atlantic this week, before things quieten down to a Summer pattern.

The cold winter, and now hot early summer, is caused by a prolonged "blocking" weather pattern that has seen the UK have the driest first 6 months of a calendar year for over half a century, with drought here a possibility, especially in the densely populated South East.

You know what else is weird? Wimbledon didn't have any rain delays this year!!! GO NADAL!!! (I don't believe) That was the whole reason for putting on the roof, because they have so much rain, it was affecting schedules.

Hiya; Hey Winbig, the town for you then is Monteray Ca. I used to live there back when ft. ord was open. It is great, and the temps are right in that range, all year long. :)

FWIW, we've been running 30-35C (in Fahrenheit that's high 80s to mid 90s) in Paris for the last couple weeks. They say the rest of July will be the same, may up to 40ish C (105F) later in the month.

Paris is moderately humid and most apartments are 100 years old or more so no AC. 40C/105F is enough to make you want to climb in the freezer for a nice little nap.

We may gripe about the heat or the cold, but we are used to it and do have central air and heating, or swamp coolers. However I can't even begin to imagine how other countries that don't have this kind of heat manages. Like Maxd and VWM said, they are having high temps that is not the norm for them and these countries don't or never needed cooling systems. So they can't even get relief staying inside.
The only time here in Arizona when the heat is totally intolerable is when the monsoons come and bring the humidity, otherwise being in the dry oven is liveable.

Add 80- 90% humidity to those 98 degree temps ... for us southerners it's like walking around in the bottom of a hot pot of water when you go out....

I don't miss that humidity at all Mousey, know what you mean! I live in the SF bay area now and the weather is a big draw. It will get in the low 90s now and then, but no humidity at all. Gets down in the low 50s at night this time of year. Being from the midwest Indiana/Illinois, we are used to that 100% humidity. Here, if it gets in the mid 80s people are dying from the heat it seems! Looks like we are in the 75-80 degree days this week. Most houses here don't have AC and if they do it is seldom used. All this nice weather comes at a cost however, Marin County has one of the highest cost of living in the country!!

I don't know what it is with my body, but I can hardly function when it gets to 90 and I can't get to an AC or fan or whatever. My ideal town would stay around 70-80 degrees year round. For those across the pond, that's 21-26.7c :)
Check out Honolulu. The temperature does go above 80F, but not above 90F. It is probably the city that is closest to your requirements.

Actually, this is one situation where the old apartment buildings -- as in 100 years old or so -- are rather well designed. Almost all of them have a central open courtyard, so the building is basically like a square donut.

The point is that (almost) everyone has windows on both sides of their apartment, if not three sides. In other words you always have at least a little breeze because one side of the building is almost always cooler than the other. Pretty ingenious really, and much cheaper than AC.

It's only when the air simply dies, no movement at all, that things get a little uncomfortable. That or when the temps hit 45C+ (115F) like they did a few years ago. That actually caused a lot of deaths because folks here are so unprepared and unused to such things.

I'm in Massachusetts to and I just took a walk to the store and it is brutal.

I cannot believe how many people were out jogging/walking/riding bikes....sick!!!!!! I haven't seen this many people out in a long time. We take the dogs to the bike path (which is gorgeous) and it was soooooo busy. We stay for maybe 10 minutes, but these people were out there for the long haul.

:barf::barf::barf:

JOGGING??????

What makes me sad is when I hear about elderly people dying because not only do they refuse to use their air conditioning, but they also refuse to open any windows. :(

I can understand that if you can't afford to run the AC (or don't have it,) but not opening windows? I even hear of people dying because they never run the AC even though they can afford it....

But of course some of these cases are because they're senile or have other related problems....

There's plenty of places around that give free fans and stuff to the elderly, but I bet most don't know of these programs, or have a way to get there...

I remember growing up in the city in NJ we didnt have fans nor air conditioning, somehow we survived those brutal days. imagine back in the days where there were cowboys and Indians how that heat was for them, amazing how they survived, I hate heat and now lo and behold here I am in florida heat and humidity yuc. so far past few days been great because its been raining  no sun, I love it . I love the cold and snow.:) I do not want to look at the weather for fear of them saying the rain will stop and the sun will come out . Stay cool all.

pevangel

I don't want to go to work this afternoon, outside temp 93/kitchen temp will probably be around 120. Good thing we're allowed to wear shorts!

Just remember everyone...drink lots of water and eat something salty to replenish what the body sweats out!
Hope everyone stays healthy and cool during the heatwave...

I guess I'm getting old, now. I remember back in HS we didn't have AC and when it got too hot outside, they'd send us home early.

hmmm, we didn't get out of school for anything:mad:. We walked to school, because they didn't bus anyone for this particular school, and it was an uphill climb to get to and from school. And the snow was a LOT deeper than it is now (although when you are only 3 or 4 foot tall, it may seem like more...). But, then again we didn't have (or weren't aware of) the El Nino and global warming stuff back in the 60's.
