I've decided to have another crack at giving up online gambling. I've been a gambler for a long time but only in the last year have I dabbled with online gambling. In all honesty I've probably done not bad out of it in comparison with land-based gambling (and I don't gamble offline at all any more), but it's time to knock this on the head. I've got a lot of time on my hands at the moment, but also a lot of stresses, and I'm finding that with all of the tempting match-up offers I get sent it's too easy to deposit cash to escape from what I should be concentrating on. This isn't on the back of any particular big loss, but £25 deposits nearly every day do have their way of eating into your bank balance. More than the money it's the frustration that I feel with myself when I give in to every tempting offer and immediately regret it (before I've even lost the money, as soon as the deposit has been accepted I feel like shit). The convenience of it all pisses me off too; at least when you blow a fortune in a B&M casino you've normally made a night of it and you get to crawl back home to recover in a separate environment. When you gamble at home you're left with that sinking, empty, guilty feeling and nowhere to go to get away from it. Short of throwing your laptop out of the window it's difficult to distance yourself from the negative experience.

So I've set to work unsubscribing from the torrent of promotional mail that arrives daily in my inbox, and I've approached the casinos which I play the most at (Mr Green, Redbet, Whitebet, 32Red, Guts, Betsafe, Jackpot Party and a few others) to self-exclude. What I will say is that the automated self-exclusion process is very slick, and on the occasions that I have had to contact customer support they've been very professional and friendly (no hard sell to stay!).

I know there are always new casinos, and there's probably a dozen casinos I haven't thought of to ban myself from - but I've got the main ones and that feels like a positive step. I would welcome any other advice from the users here on how to keep myself on the straight and narrow. I'm debating closing my account at CM because I'm liable to be tempted by new BoF casinos when I'm browsing the forum (although I do kind of like it here).

I hope all goes well for you. Smart move on banning yourself at your favorite casinos. It would be wise to also do the ones you rarely if ever play at because when temptation hits, those will be where you will go.

In reference to closing your account here, I don't think you can....unless something has changed. You can however be moved over to the quit gambling group that doesn't have access to the full board. You will have access to that quit gambling section, and I believe be able to PM members still etc.

Don't be too hard on yourself though, it's human nature to impose rules on oneself and then feel guilty about breaking them. You've done nothing wrong in this situation. Anyway as I said good luck with your future endeavors.

Well buddy,I wish you all the best in your efforts to quit for a while.
I have had breaks from any gambling in my life too, everyone needs them.
But I really do enjoy playing as it is a way to relax for me after a stressfull day at work or after a stressfull day at home with 2 girls turning the house upside down.

What I ALWAYS do is pay my bills first when the paycheque comes in.
Do groceries and buy whatever we need.

Whatever money is left,is mine to spend.
If I lose that on gambling so be it,but at least I know I have paid everything for the month!

This way gambling stays fun and controllable for me,at least 98% of the times as we sometimes all have this moment in a bad session where the fuses might blow skyhigh. ;)

But again, fair play to you and I wish you strenght in your endeavours.

Mark.

A tough decision and a hard way to go.

I won't give you so many advices. I could do that, but I ask a question instead.
How badly do you really want to quit?

If you know the answer to that then you will make it. If you're not sure, or saving some way of continuing just a little, like this Forum, then you want to keep the chance to go back.

You havn't faced so many consecuences yet, for good and for bad. That makes it a little harder and you need to be stronger.

Search for help near you, others in the same situation. Online is online, try to make it real and your life will be real.

Good luck

That's an interesting question. I've been dabbling with the idea of "pulling back on the reigns" and "only playing once a week" and "just playing the juicy bonuses", but those are all half-measures and doomed to fail if you're a gambling addict at heart. Right now I'm very clear in my thinking; I don't want to gamble on-line anywhere, regardless of any other factors. I'm not hanging on to any thread or making any exceptions :)

Of course, giving up gambling isn't as easy as self-excluding from your favourite casinos, but I think it's a damn good start.

You havn't faced so many consecuences yet, for good and for bad. That makes it a little harder and you need to be stronger.

I've been gambling for ten years, and believe me I've faced some serious consequences in that time! The longest I've ever remained completely quit in those ten years is eight months. Quitting on the back of a big loss is easier because the wounds feel deeper and fresher, and you have the advantage of being too broke to gamble for the first few weeks! This time it's not a knee-jerk reaction to losing more than I can afford, I've just decided that I don't want to subject myself to the continual see-saw of emotions that comes with having gambling so ingrained in my day-to-day life. It's not healthy for me or for those around me. :)

Then my best advice to you is that you'll start reading more, learning more and see it as a challenge. Maybe help others like many of us have done. Just make up your mind. The decision is yours and only yours to take.

You my friend is one of those I call too smart for his own good

That makes it more difficult.
I will send you a pm explaining what I mean. It's too difficult writing it to the whole world.

all i would say is good luck to you & its great to see that youve taken the plunge to stop ,if its no longer fun then its time to get out , i hope your follow your head & stick with it best of luck in the future :p

I couldn't agree more with you, I am in the same boat atm, I have closed almost all accounts and I keep telling myself 'no, the money is better in my pocket than in the slot games'.

You just have to be strong and remember if you ever feel the itch to think of how your last 2 or 3 sessions went and how you felt after them, this is what I am doing to avoid opening accounts, I have excluded myself from the casinos that I play often at, to try to strenghten my own will power I just closed the ones I rarely play at.

I wish you good luck in life AC7X, here's hoping we can both avoid the itch:thumbsup:

More than the money it's the frustration that I feel with myself...

Hello,
I think you are in the right direction ...
Knowing and feeling that we have a problem is the first step to solving the problem.

I think to stop certain habits you need to create new habits. For example, walking, cycling, playing sports could help. Make food, cooking, works for me. Find something to keep busy.

Alternatively, if you think "the thing is ugly", look for professional help. for example in the health center.

Good luck!
All the best!

First off I assume that if you close your account you can still come on and view the forums, Correct?

If you are saying you are tempted it is best to stay off here. Combination of the advertising and winning screenshots will tempt you.

Take a little of the money that you would normally blow on gambling and buy yourself some stuff, good food, merchandise, whatever it may be, so that you can see the benefit of having money.

Definitely find new entertainment, anything from movies, video games, going to a gym, golf, dating (if your married don't let the wife find out).

Just go out there and feel like you don't have the chains of gambling to weigh you down anymore.

If he request to be placed in the quit gambling section of the forums (as he should) then he will not be able to view anything other than that section. They set it up like this to avoid the problem of which you speak.

I don't blame you - after all we're indulging in a time-wasting hypnotic pastime that is basically saying to you "give me 100 pounds and I'll pay you back 95 plus some eye candy."
I have 5 active accounts, and have limits on them for monthly deposits, at intervals of 1 a week. This week I can deposit at Guts after tomorrow, next week Heypoker etc.
I haven't actually deposited this last week because I simply can't face the tedium at the moment. It's literally like 5 years back when I last put a coin in a land-based AWP. I actually walked up to it, the coin fell through and wasn't accepted, and I just retrieved the coin, stood there a second and thought 'what's the point?' and to this date have never played one since.
I haven't had a bet since backing Earth Summit for 4 quid to win 32 in the 1998 National, which won. My only source is online gaming, like you. You're right, it IS too easy if you're bored. I tend to play more in winter, as there is less to do.
The 'winner screenshots' are rare events you may hit once in a year but their grouping does give the impression that they are 'normal' events.

The only thing I would suggest is taking a 3/6 month 'break' on your favourite sites. This will be long enough to tell you if you are past the urge, but there is another reason I would suggest not self-excluding forever. IF you have a different head on in 3 months say, and want a game, you'll likely open up accounts a lower-quality non-accredited sites and get a headache from it. If you retain a favourite or two then it's like giving up smoking with a packet hidden away in the drawer - if you don't go back fine, if you do you've got your familiar brand there at hand.

Good luck mate.:)

BMWSTACK is right, the winner screenshots are the most dangerous part of this forum if you have a tendancy to spend to much. 100% serious about that. Best of luck.

Yes, we have a Quit Gambling user group:
https://www.casinomeister.com/forum-faq/forum-policies/
Occasionally, we have members that have had enough of gambling and want to quit but don't want to quit the forum. There is a user group that allows members to participate in the non-gambling sections of the forum to include interacting in the social groups, but that's it. If you request to join this group because of a gambling related problem, or just want to take a break, we can accommodate you. Please bear in mind that we will not reinstate your account to its original state until at least one year has passed - upon your request only.

To join this user group, please check your Link Outdated / Removed and go to Link Outdated / Removed. Select "Quit Gambling" and we'll do it.

We also have a Quit Gambling information section:

Congratulations on quitting. If its of any consolation to you the casinos you mentioned are well-behaved ones so they are less likely to try to tempt you back since you self-excluded. In the event that you have the urge to go back for some more I believe they will act responsibly and kick you away.

I married an extremely cheap wife that has an accounting degree and I agreed to let
her oversee all the finances. This means my paycheck comes in, she balances it out and
I get an allowance. I know that I can't be trusted with large sums of money. Whatever
money that's left over for me, I gamble it away if I wish and never feel guilty depositing or losing.

So my advice is, If you're married and your other half doesn't gamble and is great with money,
just do what I did and everything will be A-Okay. There has to be a "guardian angel" on our sides
as gamblers. Without one we could go way overboard.

P.S. Any withdraws I make also goes to her to save for a wild weekend together at a B&M casino. ;)

Sounds like you're doing the right thing, you're clearly not getting any enjoyment out of it.

I think there's sometimes a misconception that for someone to quit gambling it has to be causing them 'serious problems' in one way or another, when in actual fact it can be as simple as it's just no longer any fun - as dunover says, sometimes you could look at the entire online casino experience as setting fire to 5% of your money over an extended period of time.

Now of course if someone's fine with that and feels like they're getting some fun their money, then fair enough, but you're clearly not in that space so taking a break, either for a while or permanently, definitely makes sense.

(I'm kind of in the same position myself, well over two weeks since I made a straight deposit now (i.e. anything other than an EV+ bonus offer) - not because it was causing me financial ruin, but because it really had started to feel like a tedious and dreadful waste of time and money.)

Same here :) when i met her 7 years ago she actually in some way saved my life. I had to get my life back on track several years back. Only was finally to admit i had a problem. My wages now go into her account. And she transfer into my account. I have got better discipline now BUT money burn in my pocket or should I say in account Skrill or whatever. But yeah cash as well is a problem sometimes as u can get these UKASH now in UK. :)

So for gamblers its best to wed a spouse with sound accounting knowledge. Maybe one could also consider wedding a spouse with legal knowledge lol.

How cheap was she?

Mine was zero upfront but once the interest-free period (I.e. the engagement) was over, she cost me a fortune and still does!!

Should have gone for the $99.95 catalogue deal where you get the sister thrown in.....

You know what's really weird? I never look at the winners screenshots, it pisses me off seeing people winning all the time. (habitual loser here) It really doesn't interest me, no idea why. Today for some reason I went into the videos of people winning, but didn't watch any. Ok, I'm weird.

I'm torn what to say when people don't want to leave here. I guess it would depend on how bad off you think you are?

Good Luck AC7X

She cost you a fortune? LOL What do you think the meaning of WIFE is? C'mon now, the wife is supposed to take your money in exchange for putting up with ya! In my case, the hubby hitting the lottery isn't enough compensation! lol

Now if you went with the catalogue deal, you would be here complaining the WIFE AND SISTER are costing you a fortune! lol

You're to much!
