Horse Racing & Tips Thread

nothing jumps off the page to me as decent bets today, but I think Swift Approval in the first is overpriced at around 25-1, back to the same mark as his winning one last year, so will have a small EW on it, or possibly stick it in an ew lucky 15.

Tonight though at Chepstow, in the last 2 races, Silvestre De Sousa has his only 2 rides of the meeting. I do like to take notice of things like this, especially when its a top jockey who doesn't need the money, he has a busy afternoon at Ascot this afternoon, then travels a 200 mile round trip for 2 late rides. The 2 horses are Carol and Swilly Sunset. If I had to pick one it would be Swilly Sunset at around 6/4, but will be doing a double, then if Carol loses, a single. Swilly Sunset is Carson's only runner of the day (in the next 5 days too) and in the last 14 days he has had 3 runners under 2/1, all 3 won by 3+ lengths. Its a 400 mile round trip for him to take one horse and I can't see it getting beaten. I think Carcharias will come second for the forecast. I also like Longroom in the 7.25 at Muss. Wont get rich backing any of them but an evens winner is better than a 25-1 loser :D

I heard that Da Sousa's Mrs is not happy with him after he drunkenly pissed in the wardrobe recently so he likes to get home only once shes asleep.

Da Sousa is after the title though so he has to take his chances even if he has to get home late at night because of it. Saying that both mounts look likely to win so I will include them in a Yankee for this evening.

My small stakes losing bets today are

I did OK yesterday, the longshot came 4th at 33-1, and the last one won easily, shame he didn't do the double but still did well with the win and forecast (which paid slightly over £10). Good luck with yours today, I had Caravaggio as my bet of the day, but when we both pick the same horse it seems to be the kiss of death so see what happens now lol.

Doing a few trebles and an ew lucky 15, will probably have a few forecasts too and depending on results some more doubles and trebles as the day goes on.

1.40 Curiosity
4.35 Caravaggio
5.10 Valentino Boy

1.40 Curiosity
1.45 Sizzling
2.30 Barsanti

2.40 Laraaib
2.50 City of Joy
3.00 Jungle Cat
(probably the strongest out the three trebles)

50p EW lucky 15 on

1.55 Twin Appeal
2.10 Robot Boy
3.05 Erik The Red (Strongest EW of the day)
3.25 Donncha (I'm certain this horse is being targeted for a big race, not sure if it will be today, but would kick myself if it was and I didn't back it :) )

Also going to do small stakes (50p) reverse trifecta in the 3.05 on Erik The Red, Tumbaga & Snoano (also really fancy this to get placed). Obviously not a confident bet but its the type of race where 3 double figure odds horses fill the frame regularly, 2 of them certainly have a decent chance, and considering the trifecta will pay around £6-10k its worth a £3 daft bet :D

Also like Copper Knight and Cape Coast in the 4.15 & 5.00, but will see how the earlier bets go before deciding to back them or how much to bet :)

Good luck with yours today

Im not sure what to do with this, but theres been significant money today for
Suitor 4.40
Bombero 8.20
The Lings Steed 8.35
and Contribute 5.15.
The 2 night ones are the most interesting to me, but none of them have shown anything previously to make me think they should be gambled on or even close to favourite, might do a smal yankee on them all (the ew prices have gone unfortunately)

That loooks like a good each way yankee. Good luck today too :)

Well saturday lucks back
winner and 2 2nds on first treble. EW lucky 15 2 unplaced.

Strongest treble, Laraaib just won, but city of joy has doubled in price and extremely weak on betfair so can guess whats going to happen here :( Still have one treble left if it loses though, as curiosity won.

EDIT: I'm so happy theres no cheating goes on in horse racing, and when a horse on betfair goes from 9/4 to almost 5/1 minutes before the off, then the jockeys fails to jump out the stalls on level terms, then the horse veers left, so that its instantly lost 6-8 lengths, its just a complete coincidence!

Well I got last nights race completely wrong :(

I think today Michael Bell will have a treble, he has 3 runners today, one at each of 3 meetings. All 3 are favourites, all 3 have had money for them this morning, especially Theglasgowwarrior in the 3.25. The treble at current prices pays around 24/1. The three horses are 3.15C Three Duchesses, 3.25L Theglasgowwarrior, and the 5.45Y Hart Stopper.

Another to watch today (too short for me to back) is Khitaamy in the 4.20 at Catterick. Around 70% of the money on betfair has been matched on this horse so far.

Stonecoldsoba in the 4.40U won easily last time out, well in at the weights, trainer has had 5 runners past 14 days, 3 won, jockey has a 43% strike rate in last 14 days, including 3 winners from 4 rides yesterday. That increases to 72% if you only look at rides 3/1 or lower.

I don't usually back anything in Ireland but in the 6:25 Killarney Airlie Beach is an extremely good hurdler and if can transfer that to the flat over the slightly shorter trip should win this quite easily. Alaykha is the obvious danger but the stable isn't exactly banging the winners in and at roughly the same price am pretty confident Airlie Beach will win this.

I have taken two of those three Bell runners. I notice Heyley Turners back in the saddle for the one race on Hart Stopper but I will see how my afternoon punts go before I bother with the evening racing. I can't watch the racing this evening anyhoo so we will see.
I looked at last nights Worcester card and I almost convinced myself that I could go through the card picking every winner. Its just as well I thought better of it as I would have only had 3 out of the 7.
Good luck today

Here is my two small bets for this afternoon

Good luck today :)

Yeah I noticed the same about Hayley, but I never much rated her and if I was going to leave one out it would be that one, but done the treble now :)

She is often touted as being the greatest female Jockey ever. However I think that there are some really good young female jockeys who will take that crown. A sixteen year old lass won the other day on an un-fancied nag at Lingfield

Wednesday was frustrating as hell for me lol, actually ended up doing 3 x trebles, and a £30 4 fold. All 3 trebles had 2 winners, with one letting me down each time. The £30 4 fold, Airlie Beach came third and 3 others all won, that would have paid about £2750 (BPG) :(

coral.webp

Had a £50 treble up yesterday (only bet of the day) that paid around £750.

Today I think is hard, as usual for a Friday (or Saturday). Roger Varian I think will have a couple of winners including Madeline in the 3.50 and my old favourite, Defoe in the 7.55, won't be around to watch that race though as off to airshow with granddaughter tonight. See The Master should win the 4.45. Despite the money for Eccleston this morning, I think Hee Haw will win the 6.50, the money for Eccleston should mean a decent price for Hee Haw, possibly 2/1 ish. Will probably do a treble on the last 2 named and Defoe, and possibly a smaller one this afternoon just for a bit of an interest. Good luck to anyone who's having a bet today :)

Won £600 yesterday and again 2 winners and a loser on another treble, three of the 4 mentioned on here won, Hee Haw being the one that let my treble down.

Newbury is soft today and I have a feeling theres going to be some big priced winners there today.

Majeste in the 1.50 could be anything so going to take a chance on her at around 20/1.
2.40 Skiffle (15/2)
2.50 Annie Irish (10/1)
3.00 Visionary (14/1)

50p EW Lucky 15.

Charlie Longsdon only has the one runner today - Midnight Shot in the 3.20 at Market Rasen. At 14/1 this has won its last 3 races and has to be worth a small each way bet. Going to do it in another 50p EW lucky 15 alongside
3.45Li Prince Garyantle
8.00Ha Wordiness
2.10MR Mystic Sky

Found it very hard to find anything I would usually put in a treble today, considering how much racing there is I would normally expect to find at least 6 or 7 'good things' then narrow that down depending on price. I've done a £30 treble on

3.25GP Less Of That
3.35NB Maggies Angel
3.55MR Whatzdjazz

Good luck whatever you back :)

Only just read this!
Nice picks mate. Only Heehaw let you down but I hope that you got a decent return still? God knows what happened with the stall handler at Haydock? RIP to him anyhow.

As for my long term political bet. Jacob Reece Mogg has now gone in from the 50/1 shot when I placed my bet into 13/2 third fave with Paddy Power :D
If I could get the bet I would wager that Micheal Gove would be his no2 (Chancellor)

My bets for today are.

Wow a good day on tv racing for a change.

Never done usual lucky 15s backed first races as singles.

So got couple of winners in what about carlo and magical memory and couple of losers.

Didnt fancy last 2 races so only put 2x £3 singles and a £2 e/w double on Alcala and Bengali Boys in last 2 races just for an interest to watch on telly. Pretty happy with that result lol. Can not believe how easily Bengali Boys won that race.:D

Even better see it returned at 12/1 and i had it at 16/1 and had 9/1 Alcala

Well done with those and Contango winning, hope you got a few quid back :)

I was up on the day due to a SFC winning early on, but apart from that barely had one placed let alone win :(

Hi I did well thanks but I took my winnings to games and blew most of it on King Kong bollix slot leaving enough for a small bet today which I've not looked at yet. I was thinking about sticking a bet on the evenings races but I thought better of it. Other than what I had bet on yesterday all of the other horses that I considered backing yesterday lost and I would have lost last night too. So I was quite lucky really :)

Edit. JRM is now joint second fave to become the next Tory leader.

Not very good racing today, Monday racing tends not to be high quality at the best of times, but today's is pretty dire even for a Monday. Add onto the poor cards, quite a few non runners so far and going being different to what it was when the decs were made, I think it promises to be a weird day for results.

I'm doing a win yankee on

3.40 Inglorious
4.10 Crazy Tornado
5.55 Laureate
7.15 Outcrop

It was going to be an EW lucky 15 but the prices have dropped so much, it isn't worth it.

I'm also going to do a small win yankee and small EW accumulator on Peter Bowen's 4 runners at Cartmel. His runners seem to be under performing at the moment, just lacking a finishing kick, resulting in quite a few getting 2nd or 3rd, just running out of steam in the last furlong (Wadswick Court Saturday as an example). I'm sure that will stop at some point soon and don't want to miss him having 4 winners in a day or so when it happens!

I had my two daughters turn up so it was off to the cinema and now i'm making a curry and naan bread so I have had no chance of doing anything. But looking at the race cards it does seem like a good each way betting day. Besides I've nowt left in my Paddy Power and I don't want to deposit for a few days.
Unless something really takes my fancy :p

well so far peter bowens resulted in a small loss, did a £1 yankee and £2 ew acca, got £12 back, and the other ones were 3rd and 4th so only just missed out on the ew acca.

Crazy Tornado won at 11/2 and still 2 more to run :)

I got retrospective free spins from taking part in the King Kong Cash promo in Paddy Power so I am going to use the tenner I won on these gee gees today.

Good luck with the rest of the nights. Amazing Alice has knocked a couple of my bets flat, but I guessed it was screwed from the betting patterns a few hours ago :( downside of having to put them on early.

Not doing well today at all, my only bet left running is an ew yankee on all PJ McDonalds rides tonight, first one just won at 2/1.
Had a forecast and tricast up on the dogs when I was in the bookies though so am up a bit today whatever happens tonight.

Saturday's back for me to pick a dozen horses, and maybe, if I'm lucky, get one placed :D

In the 2.40 at York I like Clear Water at around 33-1, its only his second start for this yard, missed the break last time and got caught up in traffic problems when starting to run on. He was beaten 6 lengths but lost 2 or 3 at the start, and the couple of times he met trouble cost him at least another 2 or 3. Assuming he gets a clear run and starts well I think he will be closer this time, and worth a small EW bet at the price.

Firmament in Ascot's 3.00 is top weight and it might be too much, but he likes soft ground and has won and placed in decent handicaps, again 33-1 looks too big for him.

Normally I don't back horses that have had one run, and even less often, ones that won the first race and are favourite on the back of it, but I was very impressed with Tigre Du Terre when it won it's first race. Demolished the field and don't think it will get beaten today, with Ventura Knight as a confident forecast, which should pay around £15 assuming the prices stay roughly what they are now.

In the 4.40 at the Curragh Zeftan is going for the Apprentice/Amateur Derby double and with Jamie Codd booked, it looks like they are trying. I can't see Jamie going down without a fight and not sure why it isn't favourite. Horse is in form and loves the track, I would have priced it around 2-1, and will be having a decent EW bet at 5-1. Can't see it being out the first 3.

World Stage in the 5.10 at the Curragh has had a massive amount of money on it already, and has its odds move from 11/4 to 5/4 in a couple of hours. Will be amazed if it doesn't start at around 4/6 so is a back to lay bet on betfair.

Haven't decided yet how to group my bets yet, but they are ones that have caught my eye. Will most likely do an each way double on the 2.40 and 3.00, and include them in a lucky 15.

Good luck to anyone having a bet today.

There is so much good racing on today with so many horses that I fancy having a bet on that I have had to wind my neck in an mostly stick to the tv racing. If I'm doing well through the afternoon I may add to my punts.
These are what I have taken. Good luck with yours

Oh and JRM is now 2nd Fave at 6/1 from 50/1 to be the next Tory leader :D

I don't know anything about horses and football but I do like the very occasional bet. I like reading your musings on what you may do betting wise on the horses.
Anyway after reading this I decided to bet on these 4 in separate bets, 3 lost and 1 won so I did end up £10 up on the bets. Cheers!

Had a lucky day today, not had time to look at the racing today or yesterday properly, but had half an hour to kill, so stuck goodwood on, saw the 100-1 winners and suchlike, so decided to look at the 3 biggest prices and stick a tenner on whichever I thought was most likely to win just from those 3. This was the resulting bet :D

Did a £20 EW double with part the winnings on Peter Bowen's 2 horses tonight, Court King and Lime Street, Court King was beaten by a head and Lime street has just started. Also done a small forecast on Lime Street to beat the favourite.

Nice one Col :D
What was yesterdays racing all about? I didn't bet much yesterday because I had no confidence in it and I have not bet much today either for the same reason at Goodwood.
But here is a story.
Years ago when I was about 20 I could not put a bet on due to being on a training course but I had marked my bets out for the days Goodwood meeting just in case I got the chance to put a bet on. There was 5 races live on CH4. In the evening CH4 reran the days racing and I had picked out each of those 5 winners that day and the prices where no lower than 8-1 up to maybe 20-1. I nearly cried!

Yeah I never look at the racing unless I'm 100% sure I will be able to get the bet on for that exact reason haha.

I've done an EW Lucky 15 on the 4 Andrea Atzeni, not because I fancy any of them but he rides the course well obviously and its just for an interest in the races.

Yes You should win the 5.30 at Redcar.

Also doing Max Dynamite & Airlie Beach in the Galway hurdle tomorrow, both each way and a small rfc

I hope that you piled the money on Yes You? Well after those three rolled in I have decided to stick a small yankee on :)

I'm not a bad loser but wtf was Kieren Fox doing on Padrinho, he cost us the race there, the ground was clearly much slower on the rail, and the reason why the first and second didn't go all the way over, as soon as he put the horse on the rail a few furlongs out I knew he wouldn't last home :(

I didn't manage to watch the races as I was cooking off loads of veg from the allotment for the freezer and for pickling. (I planted way too much beetroot ) :(
Going to look at tomorrows race card at Goodwood, but I bet there will be a load of non runners by lunchtime

Oh my god, How unlucky was that? And how the hell did you pick those out at such huge odds?

It wasn't mine but it paid 250k was a load of doubles, trebles in a combination bet

pffft you can never plant enough beetroot, I like it hot with a Sunday dinner :), must be a week for picking etc, I was at a pick your own farm in darlington on Monday getting a load of redcurrants, and making the last batch of jelly from them tonight!
Theres a load of non runners already, I think favourites and 2nd favs will do well tomorrow.

Yes,I think that either the fave or second fave will probably do well in most of the races tomorrow but I will be looking for the value each way horses too.

We inherited the allotment from an old lady who had a thing for Borage. If I had given it a thought I could have made money from those tiny flowers but its too late now this year :(

Hot Beetroot and boiled ham with pease pudding :p

Yep thats good too, i sometimes boil a full beetroot just for me cos no one else likes it hot, well apart from one daughter, is she's here she gets half. Everyone looks at me like I'm mad when I mention having it hot lol.
Stuff tastes so much nicer when its not from a supermarket, the strawberries I picked the other day taste nothing like the shite you get from supermarkets, as soon as I bit into one it reminded me of when I was a kid, but you don't realise how bland supermarket stuff is till you go back to something fresh do you?

My main bet will be the galway race I mentioned earlier I think ;)

I have just cooked off a load of carrots, peas, broad beans and green beans and the flavour of all of them are much more intense that supermarket veg. The Raspberries are fantastic but I am having to freeze them down because they are ripening bit by bit and I intend to make a shit load of J|am once they have finished producing. I will haul the Strawberries out of the freezer too and make jam with them too. Then I will freeze down apples and blackberries for pie making over the winter.
My partner is vegan so she is crazy too about home grown produce :D

Rumpole in the first has a chance, being backed too a little bit.
In the 4.10, if you ignore the last run, Chai Chai has a chance at 25's

I quite like the look of Addeybb to win the first and Mukalal as an each way but I will wait until tomorrow when I have the paper in front of me and a better idea of the none runners.
I have done pretty well with the Irish racing lately so I'll probably have a look at the Galway card too

I didn't fancy enough horses today for an outsiders each way at Goodwood but I quite fancy my chances for an each way at Galway where Music Box is running again.

Just back from Galway and thankfully good ole Music Box came good again.
Had 50 ew at 11/2 last night and had 100 win at 9/2 on track.
The rest of the card couldn't pick a thing but still a decent profit on the day.
Might have one at Galway for the weekend depending on the ground but it could be a bog if this bloody rain keeps up.
