They don't ask for your CVV, they ask for the edges uncropped. That means that they want a full picture of your card (with the rounded corners visible), but you can still hide the CVV.

They want a pic like #1, but you apparently sent a pic like #2

Heck no, don't even share your full card # online, just enough to show you're the card holder.

For those that don't understand this request, cropping means this:

cropping[1] refers to removing unwanted areas from a photographic or illustrated image. One of the most basic photo manipulation processes, it is performed in order to remove an unwanted subject or irrelevant detail from a photo

If in fact you just removed the CVV I don't get the request. But honestly I'll never understand why sites keep asking for personal information by email.

Don't think they're worried about the outer edges of his card, could be wrong. :)

If so how does outer edges of a card create a problem?

Then define uncropped edges for me :)

Personally I'd like to know why the edges of a card matters, if the rest of the card has all the vital information intact? And Homer said he only cropped the CVV.

So I guess this question should be directed to Homer, did you crop the outer edges of your card for some reason or just the CVV code?

Sounds more like a stock email reply to me.. ;)

Some casinos will want an exact picture of your card minus the CVV. That's including the edges.

I was once told that I wasn't allowed to alter the physical appearance of the card other than hiding the CVV. Why? Who knows.

He said he only altered the CVV, so correct who knows? I don't think anyone would alter rounded corners of their card vs. squared corners of their card for fraud reasons. It's all about said information on the card.

I agree you shouldn't alter your card appearance, only remove what you don't want others to see. Don't get the edges though, no logical reason for this..

Hopefully the OP will chime in an let us know why he trims off the edges of his credit or debit card scans, why.:D

All to do with licensing, they have to be strict.

Always blank out the middle 8 digits of the long card number and the CV2 number on the back. NO ONE should need this information other than the card holder and don't let anyone tell you different.

Hi all,

This is indeed requested due to our obligations to the licensing authority and to the security of our players. We appreciate that it can be tiresome but is necessary unfortunately.

Ref the cropping: without wanting to go into a lot of detail on a public forum, the appearance of the card image and the edges in particular can determine whether the image is of a card or whether it's a good photocopy/facsimile of one.

And as PV pointed out, we recommend blocking all but the last 4 digits of the card number, and definitely the CV2. Unfortunately all too often people's emails are hacked, and the hackers can look through your sent items...

If anyone has any other questions then please don't hesitate to ask.

All the best,

Aaron

In this case, what about the photo ID and utility bill that is requested along with the card image. What should players block out on these two documents in order to render them useless to an email hacker, but still of use to the casino security team? Many players block out things like the passport number, or something else they feel doesn't contribute to verification, such as the driver number on a UK License, yet such documents get rejected.

Players often give up after being given vague reasons for their documents being declined, such as "unclear", "blurry" etc and end up making a high quality image and not daring to block anything out lest the casino use it as an excuse for not accepting the document.

I was once told my card image was "unclear" and to send it again. This too failed, and they then explained that "unclear" meant I had blocked out the middle 8 digits and 3 digit code on the back, and to send it again with everything visible. I checked with VISA and they said this would not be a breach of the rules, but after I mentioned to the casino that I had checked with VISA that it was OK, they backed down before I had managed to send the file. This made me not bother blocking out anything for a while as I didn't fancy the same runaround elsewhere.

I have now gone back to blocking out the middle digits and code, and so far not a single complaint from any of the reputable casinos I now play at.

I send a scanned copy of my bank statement as the 'utility bill' portion whenever I have to send docs, and normally just crop out the whole bottom half since my address and name and the info they need is at the top. But one casino (I can't remember which one - maybe NordicBet?) asked me to rescan it and send the whole thing, so I rescanned it without cropping (and blacked out all my $ information on the bottom) and then they were ok with it.

Funny to think that cropping something would make a difference...it's good for players to know. @the OP, glad you got it sorted out!
