The problem is poverty and inequality, ('destitute, run down areas', as you put it). That's the problem, not immigrants. That is Labour's challenge and what it needs to rise to.
Now at the moment, and given what Reeves is saying as Chancellor, I'm not entirely sure Starmer and pals really get it, or that they have the fight in them for what needs to be done to lift up those who are struggling in the UK - but that's down to the government, again, not immigrants.
And if Labour fail, then I fear for what comes next.
Also, I've had a look down that guy's Twitter timeline and is non-stop racism, hatred and incitement, and a whole lot more as well.

Of course it's not immigrants and a culture issue! I mean the roma tradition of marrying 13-year old girls off, borrowing children to claim benefits for them, alcoholism, theft, selling kids and attracting (not unreasonably) the attention of social services of course is in NO WAY linked to an immigration issue!
Under the EU's own rules, people like that can be deported. Maybe if the UK used those laws when in the EU it could have swung the Brexit vote a few points the other way and we wouldn't have left! So it could be argued that spineless soft-touch Britain was the reason the remoaners lost the referendum.

France did it, Italy has and Spain has to a lesser extent. Because, the freedom of movement under EU law also gives countries the right to remove EU persons not seeking work, on permanent benefits or involved in crime.

As mentioned previously I did have a flirtation with the left, where I thought they might have some solutions but that was way before things like PC and immigration became their numero uno priority.
Immigrants may not be the cause of all the problems, but they certainly aren't helping and definitely bring problems.
You'd/we'd be better off helping them stay in their own countries with trade improvement and development help.

Since the start of Covid alone, the UK government has effectively printed SEVEN HUNDRED BILLION POUNDS and given it to the rich, and they are using that money to fuck everyone. They're not even necessarily doing it to be deliberately evil or anything, it's just what the rich do when they get money, they buy more stuff, and in doing so they price everyone else out of the essentials of life. (Housing being the most obvious example.)
But hey, it could also all be the fault of the Roma, I guess.

The indigenous working class brit is now the undeserving poor, the immigrants no matter what they do are the deserving poor.
Mass immigration, the fors and against, has divided the public, on a rich vs poor basis it works as a divide and conquer strategy for the establishment.
Labour will not secure a bigger cake to share out, therefore mass immigration will have an austerity effect for the indigenous lower classes in our post industrial part of the world. This is putting aside the other negatives.

There is so much speculation on why this is happening. Does anyone really know? Is it fear from the left they will upset the immigrant voters they brought in? it has to be right? Their plan worldwide has seemed to allow immigrants in because they will vote for "us"
Now they see the damage they are doing, they cant do anything about it.
This is honestly the only conclusion I can come to. Surely they dont hate their own country folk? Surely they dont want to see and approve of their country falling apart.
They are rich elitist, they dont live, shop or engage with them so as long as they stay in power, what do they care?
This is the only sensible solution I have come across.
Oh and to make sure to use the media as their tool to actually convice their own people that they are bad.
I think it's sad because it gives immigrants a bad rap and now some really good decent ones are looked at as scum. Some of the nicest people at my work are immigrants. Guess what? Even they are mad at what's going in. It isnt normal. It's just not how you do things.
I think what shocks me the most out of all of it is how many people have actually been convinced that their own country people are the bad ones.

You dont get it. You are being short sighted.
You do not realize that healthcare systems, housing, programs to help the destitute, sewer systems, water treatment plants, social housing, jails, mental asylums, roads, parks and services, dental and basically everything inside of a country is built to tend to a certain amount of people.
When you migrate hundreds of thousands and/or millions you overwhelm everything. Illegal immigrants on average do not contribute to the need of doctors, nurses, dentists, police etc.
Then if you want to get into cultural differences we can. That creates tensions = a rise in crime, a need for bigger jails, more police officers, more judges and lawyers.
That is why it has always supposed to be controlled immigration. So the system doesnt get overwhelmed. So they bring in people needed in specific areas to keep a country running properly and to give some people a chance at a better life.
Why are you saying it's never been an issue? When there is absolute fact it is. People losing their building to house hundreds, thousands of illegals. Hotels being closed down to house them (taking money away from the economy and tourism)
I mean, there are literal articles where they quote businesses, doctors etc saying there is a large problem

We have a subway right in our hospital. I used to eat it once or twice a week. I totally stopped. I dont like it and its absolutely crazy expensive.
Me and one of my co-workers were just talking about that the other day. Some of these subs were $5 not long ago and are now $12 after tax. No thanks.

I used to think it's about the votes, especially in the US situation. Slightly different with the uk as it's not via a land border, and conservatives have let in a million or two that won't vote for them.
In life I try to take people on an individual basis, when you meet folk in various situations. It's not easy, and an extra stress to navigate obvious barriers and differences.
But that's just the personal micro situation, once you extend it to the macro and involve millions, you're bringing into society and encountering all manner of additional problems and drawbacks.
All the liberals here and elsewhere, if they had to choose a nurse or carer for elderly parents, or take into account the staff make-up of the care home, are they really going to pay no attention to background, I don't believe them if they say yes.
I tend to think now it must be either a divide and conquer strategy, or perhaps propping up the gdp/growth model we're obsessed with.
The economic reason doesn't really explain canada though, which afaik is extremely rich with oil reserves, top 5 in the world.
More mass immigration definitely makes things worse for the pre-existing foreign background people that may have been here since the 80s, it's making the whole situation precarious and volatile, can't see it getting better either.

I'm no fan of judges or some of the bizarre decisions they come to, but I think use of the word 'should' needs defending. The English law is based on the principle of 'reasonableness'. If someone attacks you, then it is reasonable to defend yourself, but the response must be 'reasonable' given the circumstances. There is no open invitation to use extreme violence. So given the case under discussion would a reasonable person be horrified at the threats and violence? The judge clearly thought so and so used 'should' ie if you were a reasonable person you should have been horrified.

Because it's the most important thing going on, and the single biggest explainer for the direction the UK has been going in for decades. New Labour did good work on lifting people up (the stats on poverty back that up), on the NHS, education and many other 'healthy society' indicators but failed on others.
Since the financial crash in 2008, and Covid in 2020, we have seen two massive transfers of wealth from your average folks into the hands of the rich and ultra-rich, loaded onto the government in the form of debt, and onto your traditional middle and working classes as taxes.
These are where the tensions and cracks in the fabric of society and flashpoints are coming from, and the rich love to do nothing more than point to the 'others' as the cause of it all (whoever happens to be flavour of the day), whilst trousering big fat stacks of cash and explaining to us all why it would terribly destructive if they were ever asked to pay higher taxes.
Labour have five years to start to get on top of this shit, and given what we've heard from Reeves so far, I don't think they're up to it.

Maggie Thatcher said the a government should treat our finances in the same way we treat our own households. If we got it then spend it and even share it. If we don't then tighten our belts. It seems like common sense to me.

The only way it's affordable is if mother nature is the benefactor. Mother Earth can afford it for a time if your country is blessed with a small population and huge natural resources, Norway and to some extent Sweden being examples. Can you link to where it states that? I must be wrong with my understanding that Cat A prisoners were excluded and it was only prisoners who had an original sentence of 12 months or less.
