Games Hosted on Local Server

Hi All,

I recently got scammed out of a lot of money from an online casino which does not hold a gaming license in any jurisdiction. I am in the process of disputing transactions with the bank and need to compile evidence which substantiate my claims.

The purpose of this thread is to try and develop my understanding of the industry, in particular regarding how games are typically hosted by legitimate casinos.

After being scammed, I began inspecting the source code of the casino in question and identified evidence that their slots were hosted locally. I then inspected the code of legitimate casino websites and found that all of their games were hosted on the gaming providers website. For example, when inspecting the code of a legitimate website the Sweet Bonanza slot was hosted on Pragmatic servers.

Is somebody able to confirm where this is standard practice and that if a slot if found to be hosted locally, this is a big red flag. Further, if the casino say that its hosted locally but still audited/RTP verified, is this even possible?

As part of the dispute the bank told me to do all I can to try and resolve directly with the merchant. I told the merchant that I have evidence of X, Y and Z (including screenshots of the code which shows the games hosted locally) and I have today discovered that this is no longer the case. Instead, the games now direct to a Static-CDN URL. Can somebody please confirm whether this is typical behaviour (do legitimate casino's use Static CDN's), is there anything I can do to track/trace this, and is there anything else in general which I should be looking for to assist my case?

I would post the name of the casino here but I have started to receive threatening emails from them so as to not jeopardise my case, I will refrain from providing this information until my case has been resolved.

Thanks!

As the casino is not licenced that’s all the bank should need. You are literally wasting your time searching for further technical evidence as this will be dismissed by the bank “the servers are locally hosted etc” - they would neither understand nor care less. As for the casino holding their hands up to say “fair point, here’s your refund” no chance.

Appreciate the quick responses!

They have supplied me with a forged license. I've had confirmation from the accrediting body that this is forged, and that they have previously reached out to this company to insist that they stop operating illegally. This evidence has been submitted to the bank.

I understand what you're saying, I guess I'm just looking for general advice regarding the technical aspect so that in the event the bank dismisses my claim, I have something to follow up on. Knowing this information would also help me (and others) from falling victim to similar scams in the future.

Any information provided is greatly appreciated!

It has been a very long time since I worked for an operator - 17 years and counting to be precise! But when I worked for Ladbrokes in Gibraltar, we ourselves hosted the casino games on the gaming servers, which were located in our own comms room, next door to our offices. However, Microgaming who were Ladbrokes Casino game provider at that time, were the only individuals that had access to said gaming servers, which was done so remotely.

The transactions did indeed go to fake merchants using false MCC's (hardware stores, general shopping etc.) across Europe and Africa. I've already informed the bank of the situation and disclosed exactly what I intended to purchase. Whether or not that was the right move I'm not sure, however I want this to all be above board. I know chargebacks are often frowned on - I've lost thousands over the years and have never once raised a complaint - however when there is genuine fraud involved I will bring forward as much evidence as I can to ensure criminals don't have an easy ride with my money.
