After reading another thread

https://www.casinomeister.com/forums/threads/its-time-to-stop-chasing-the-rainbow.34587/

I came to the conclusion that a LOT of us may have been in similar situations or close to it.

So I thought maybe if I asked some serious questions - it would enlighten me to the reality (if folks answered honestly) ;)

So here are my questions:

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends?

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT?

3) Do you use anything to manipulate your winnings?
Regardless if it is legal or not) --- and this answer can be ANYTHING - such as an autoclicker - or some program... You do NOT have to be specific --- AND ANSWERING YES ---- does NOT make whatever you use ILLEGAL and I WILL NOT JUDGE you on this answer - OK? Cause you could even say - YEAH - I USE VOODOO to make me win --- OK? I just am looking for any outside interference or belief or action or tool usage other than just YOU... OK?

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?)

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble?

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back?

These might be some touchy topics - I was just trying to see how others operate - and openly discuss some things.

It bothered me (the above thread) but only because I once was in that position - and I think that if he is in that position and I was in that position - that it is probably likely that others have been or will be in that position - and I wanted to know if there are steps that can help others stay away from that situation?

Yanno?

Any further talk about it - I would love to hear it - if you have any other discussion on the matter - please... Talk to me! LOL!

I love talkin - if ya haven't figured that out. LOL!

1) Yes
2) Both
3) No. Used to use an autoclicker sometimes in tourneys but I hardly play tourneys anyway so I stopped using it.
4) Yes and yes
5) No
6) Sometimes.

I'm a full-time carer for my disabled there isn't much to do when is alseep. I also suffer from insomnia so when I get bored I sometimes gamble.

EDIT: Great idea for a thread. It could open some people's eyes to the extent of their problem (I'm not saying anyone here HAS a problem but there may be someone and this thread could really help them)

Here are my answers just in case:

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends?

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT?

Mostly for Entertainment, but sometimes I have a gut feeling I might win - and I will HOPE and HOPE and HOPE I will win - but give up after awhile. But I've never believed that I was going to win - and imagined the money and the things I would do with it to the extreme that I PLAY to WIN.

OK?

Uhm... I have little things I do - like I hold my breath when I spin sometimes (LOL) or something - and maybe I have some superstitions about clicking so many times in a row on some games... LOL - but other than that - nah - don't have anything else I use or have as a tool.

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?)

I used to spend over my budget REGULARLY. But since I don't have an unlimited budget any longer - I have cut back quite a bit - and have stayed MOSTLY within that budget COMPLETELY. (only cause I don't have much of a choice... LOL!) But even spending over my budget it wouldn't be very much - for example if I budgeted 500.00 --- I might spend an extra 100.00

Or whatever would be equivalent.

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble?

I did once. And I will NEVER do it again. It was the worst feeling going back and gambling because I WANTED to - and breaking that promise. At the time - I made the promise to keep the peace. But I WILL NEVER promise anything that I cannot guarantee again.

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back?

Hmmm... Since I RARELY - if EVER win - and EVEN more RARELY cash out - I would have to say yes to this.

Ok - your turn.:D

Awesome Pauly - I was just sitting there thinking and it was bothering me a little.

I would say that I AM a gambler - but that my PROBLEM days are way behind me.

Such as a Teenager who goes binge drinking when they are 17 at all the frat parties... Now since they are older and "wiser" only drinks one or two glasses of wine - because it just doesn't interest them - or just doesn't fit into their lifestyle --- At First I went HOG WILD - then - OOOPSIE - fell down hard...

Then learned my lesson. LOL!

But I got up dusted myself off - and realized even though I fell hard - it wasn't the gambling that caused the fall - it was MY idiocy that did.

I too, have insomnia - and find that gambling when I cannot sleep is awesome! LOL! Sad but true...

Yeah this is a touchy one Witch,

Here goes to the best of my ability.

(1)- yes to my friends- no my Girlfriend ( legit reason why though, well in my mind anyway)

(2)- I can only answer that as both, most times entertainment but the same as you- I get that feeling and will deposit based on that.

(3)- No beliefs or anything like that, just gamble for fun, all Aussies love a punt.

(4)-Yes in the past I did, now I get paid and the money goes into katherine's (my partners) account so she pays the house repayments, credit cards etc- out of $1900 per fortnight that I get I will give her $1600-$1700 and keep the rest for fuel smokes etc and then have a punt.

(5)- Yes unfortunately, it is not more saying I wont but I dont tell her when I do as she hates me doing it0 but mind you she doesnt mind spending 100's on shoes, bags and 3 pairs of $100 shoes a month for the baby.
And I know she doesnt tell me where ALL the money goes- I see new clothes in the cupboard that havent been worn yet or the new watch or the new something so I feel it is a two way streak

(6)- Shit yeah, but it depends on the size of the win- it is is 4 figures then it goes on bills, anything less than $500 I will leave in the webwallet and use it over a period of time- but then I dont deposit using my own money so its a win win.

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends? yup

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT? both

3) Do you use anything to manipulate your winnings? just my thoughts...lol

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?) sure, and sure

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble? nope

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back?
depends how high the win is, and if I just won at another casino

You know what's funny....before I found online gambling I used to scratch lottery tickets and when my husband went to my father to ask for his approval to marry me (yes he did that...LMAO) my father told him that I like to gamble....so there was never a time in my life where I had to lie about gambling, all my family and friends new about it.

I HAVE however lied how much I spent when I was first married and maxed out a credit card, my husband almost left me.

Same for me lol except that for (1) everyone knows of my gambling habits but in the past I did not disclose to them how much I bet, or rather lost. In the past few years, I still gamble on the same things but the amount is only roughly about 5% of what they were. Surprisingly, I still get the same level of entertainment and excitement so I am very comfortable with my gambling habits now.

I live in a place where people are not exactly open-minded. Despite doing quite well at work, many people in high positions frown on people who gamble. On several occasions I was told that the upper management did not like me gambling on horse-racing and mahjong though I can honestly tell you this had no effect whatsoever on my work. It's just that they heard that I am a gambler and they dont like it. Different people have different habits. I cant see why I should not gamble when some pour their life savings in the stock /property market. Cynical people with fu##ing attitudes.

Sorry for the rant guys.

chuchu59: I cant see why I should not gamble when some pour their life savings in the stock /property market. Cynical people with fu##ing attitudes.
I agree chuchu59, I have probelms with people spending sometimes hundreds of dollars on fine wine and dinners every week.. and maxing their cards out with thise dinners.. That is MUCH worse than gambling, at least in gambling you have a chance of a return...but when you eat and drink, it all goes down the toilet....without any kind of chance for a return unless your toilet backs up! And they have the nerve to tell me how to spend my fun money...sheesh...talk about dumb..

.

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends? Yes but regret it now for whenever finances come up, you get that all knowing eye thing from them. Strangers don't typically make a note in your file (typically)

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT? To win and that is very entertaining:D but sometimes I do get a little more serious and will start at slot #1 and slowly work my way thru till I find one that give out. Most of the time though it's hit and run. 'well that was fun - now what should I do?'

3) Do you use anything to manipulate your winnings? well from what I am learning here at CM, bonus' are considered manipulating and by the way will not be using them anymore except at certain casinos with super low WR that I know wont use them against me later. I keep reading 'manipulate your winnings', you mean something to help increase your chances of winning right? cause thats what I answered to.

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?) Yes, I have a budget and have gotten pretty good at staying within funds allowed but am still working on being able to play a little every week instead of only the first couple of days of the month so am half way there I guess.

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble? No.

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back? if you mean reverse cashout - yes in the beginning but not any more. If you mean after winnings are in your hands? No like last win bought my new computer. a small win goes right back in whereas a larger one I will honestly try to do something productive with it and even had a good balance in my savings acct. Had is the keyword.

I don't think Gambling ONLINE or in Vegas or using the stock market is much different EITHER.

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends?

The topic never comes up.

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT?

Obviously, winning is more desirable than losing; the occasional win is what makes gambling entertaining. But I plan on losing what I deposit.

3) Do you use anything to manipulate your winnings?

No. Never. Defeats the purpose of why I enjoy online play. Makes it a job, and not worth it to me.

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?)

No, not often. Yes, I have a budget.

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble?

No. Actually, it's often the contrary; people want to gamble with me, and I can't because it's not in my budget.

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back?

I do sometimes. But again, these winnings are 'mad money' - money I've come into, that I never planned to have, and are just frosting.

Good idea to set up a poll on this. Might be interesting. Make it the same questions - anonymous answers of course - and people can select more than one answer for the poll.

I'd set it up for you, but I'm packing my bags for VEGAS :D

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?) No budget.

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble? No way!

One of my principles in gambling ...I don't mind losing in gambling, but nothing gives a more depressing feeling than having been "up" at a casino and the come home losing So I try to at least break even That is why for on line gambling I like QT cause now I can xfer immediately I can also rexfer to another casino lol

First I would like to thank Wager Witch for the remarkably interesting post in the related thread and for opening this one. I think it is very useful to exchange our views and expectations on online gambling, since each one of us online gamblers has to face temptations, make decisions and sometimes struggle to keep control. Here are my answers:

1) Are you HONEST about YOUR gambling with your family and friends? Yes

2) Do you play to WIN or do you play for ENTERTAINMENT? Definitely entertainment. The only exception is Videopoker, where the doubling feature along with inavoidable GREED sometimes brings me into trouble after expecting to hit big and attempting to double up one time too often. Slots however are entertaining with a touch of thrill caused by the possibility to hit big (who of us doesnt love to see the vampires lining up in Scary Riches extra spins)

3) Do you use anything to manipulate your winnings? I sometimes wish I could see the opponents hole cards in poker, especially after some heavy donkbeats... but the answer is no.

4) Do you OFTEN spend over your budget? (and do you have a budget?) In order to keep control over my gambling habits I opened an account only for gaming purposes and NEVER make any deposit except from that gambling account. When its empty, I do not refill it until the predetermined day. If I want to gamble in the meantime I play poker or use some comps and play for pennies. There are many interesting free tourneys too, for example at 3Dice. In case of hitting really big - which thank god happened a few times this year - I transfer the winnings and leave some money to extend my monthly gaming budget.

5) Do you ever promise anyone else that you WILL NOT gamble? Noway, then I could never look up the winners screenshots

6) When you win - do you often gamble most of the winnings back? As mentioned above, I leave a part of the winnings for gambling and if I lose that, I dont have to feel too bad about it.

One more question at the end of this post: Yesterday I played in a Rival casino, deposited 30 and reached 350 when the WR were met (Scary Rich - long live those bloodsuckers). I continued to play and eventually cashed out 160 Dollars. Instead of being happy because of having won, I was mad because I didnt stop at the peak balance. I would like to know if other players experience such situations in a similar way. Is there a way to keep control over greed?

Cheers Balky

The exactly same scenario (not only 3 vampires in free spins, even the balance about 350.- euro) happens to me yesterday in Royal Apollo Casino, except that i've won so much from a 10.- ND Bonus ;)

It's good to know, that i'm not alone here with this lucky expanding wild vampires :)

KK I would THANK you for answering but for some reason my Thanks buttons are gone now...
Mine too!
There must be a limit of 5 per day or something, because I thanked several posts earlier.

Only 1 way - Will-Power!

If you play with bonuses like I do, what you need to focus on is how many more bonuses you can claim with the cash you have won.
For example, I made $1,400 off a $150 deposit at Vegas Sky last month (see my latest blog), and I was VERY tempted to carry on playing... but then I thought "Hey, that's 14 times I can deposit $100 and get a 100%+ bonus = $2,800+ to play with!".
With that thought in mind, hitting the cash-out button was simple!

KK

Thats what I often did in several Rival Casinos, mostly Vegas Sky (that one continually offered awesome promotions during this summer), but as a result Rival gave me a total bonus ban. When I asked some of their reps, they told me that I abused the promos cashing out right after meeting the WR. Luckily I was manually unbanned in two Rivals upon request via PM and there is still Sloto as an alternative. Good because I love the Rival slots.

Hiya: I have been married for almost 19 years now. Yay for me.........
Almost 8 years ago I lost 104 bets in a row at a single 0 Roulette table at the horseshoe, and over $1300. The thing was, only $700 of it was mine, and the rest i took out of the joint bank acct. at the atm in the casino. Booooo.

I did not tell her. Then, the next day i took out $2000 from, "her" credit card, lost it as i lost 12 hands in a row at BJ, and did not tell her again. Boooo, hisssssss, what a jerk.......and so on.

Then she found out.

The lost money was not an issue at all. It was that I did not tell her i was going to use it. It was the first, and last time i ever made her dissapointed in me.

So, what did I/we do about it? We took $1000 to gamble with. The agreement was this,.: "Play on the internet with the $1000, and we keep track of the winnings and losses. As long as the Original $1000 is still there, you are OK. That being, i could make $3000, then lose $2000, as i would still have the original $1000 in place.

Buuuuuuuuuut? If I lose that $1000, thats it, GAME OVER, FOREVER.

So, i went on to study, and play in free mode, and became a defensive player, to protect the $1000. I went back at looked at all the times I lost a good chunck of money to see what happened? It was always the same.
1. Red numbers hit 17 times in a row
2. Lost 9+ in a row in BJ.
3. Went 19 in a row in 3 card poker with no pair plus.
4. dice totals of 9-10-11-12 went 15 in a row without coming up, and so on

So, I simply removed this from ever being the reason i would lose. I never chase bets into infinity and beyound. I simply make the game beat me several losses back to back in sequences, vs losing it all in one sequence. This happens once in a while, but not enough to put me in the negative.

Bottom line is I play to Win. I have and do Win. I expect to Win, and Gloria Expects me to Win. We paid off our car from gambling. We paid for a lot of the house we built in the Philippins from Gambling. We paid 1/2 of the Bank foreclosed house we bought here in Vegas from Gambling.

And when i lose, "and i do sometimes, see the bodog thread", it is dissapointing, but not a proabelm, BECAUSE WE ARE IN IT TOGETHER.

Just like anything else, if i was asked by her to stop, I would be hitting the ctr/alt/delete buttons as i type this. Our marriage is the priority. :)

I think that players who may think they gamble to much, or some such thing only need to make something/or someone else the priority. There is no such thing as, "I love you......But"......there is only "I love you, what do you want me to do"? Master........ummm i mean Boss........ummm i mean Oh Mighty One..........i mean your majesty...........ummm i mean Honey? Yea that it, Honey Darling.........hehehe:oops:

1) Yes, I have nothing to hide there. My wife does not want to hear about the swings but knows the end result is positive.

2) Both

3) I don't use any poker programs online. I have found a few B&M machines that have errors that I have abused. For example for about a year there was a old IGT machine that paid 11/6 on a JOB instead of the posted 8/6. There was an old BJ machine that paid you as a BJ when you split and got 21 on 2 cards even though the rules stated otherwise. I am an advantage gambler and look for opportunities but don't cheat unless you consider stuff like that cheating.

4) I play poker and +EV situations within my bankroll to prevent risk of ruin.

5) No

6) No

I think one of the problems most people have is they aren't playing games that are even remotely beatable. Unless you are one of the lucky people to hit some massive progressive you will never beat them. If you want to maximize your return play blackjack or high paying VP. With cashback and promos you can easily break 100% return at B&M. While I'm not familiar with internet promos I would imagine there is an opportunity there too.

While gambling can be entertainment losing money is not entertaining to anyone. Avoid slots, crap table games like Let it Ride/Car. Stud etc and video lottery gambling and your results will improve greatly.

I live in South Dakota which I believe has more gambling devices per capita than any stats but Nevada. Most are video lottery games that pay back 90-92% and people are hooked. It is sad but it is easy to stop losing. Stop playing crap games! Typically penny and nickel slots have that same type payback. Avoid them unless you are responsible enough to play within a budget and they are truly enjoyable to you even knowing they are unbeatable.

The reasons so many games pay back so little is because the casinos don't have any motivation to change it. People play the bad games, the casinos profit. Why should they change anything? If people stopped playing 90% payback games the casinos would be forced to raise the payback.

Again - thank you all for answering.

I really don't have a Thank You button any more - how bizarre is that?

I can't thank more than 5 people LMAO - the rest of you - welll - Too bad - eh? *giggle*

Anyhow - THANK you so far... And I'd love to hear more responses, as this is - to me an interesting discussion.

WW

Thank you wagerwitch - this kind of discussion is much more productive than some of the other crapola this week even tho I am as guilty as anyone else for enjoying the read. and while we are at it, I believe you are the one several months back that did a piece on screen names and how many to use? That was helpful to me also. TY;)
